Texans bring back former training camp star to active roster

Myles Bryant is back on the Houston Texans’ active roster.

With Jalen Pitre expected to miss several games, the Houston Texans need a backup plan for Jimmie Ward at the nickel position.

Entering Friday’s practice, Myles Bryant seems to be the front-runner for slot cornerback No. 2.

The Texans promoted Bryant to the active 53-man roster from the practice squad, the team announced Thursday morning. The move was expected with Pitre out indefinitely with a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Ward, who previously played in the slot for two seasons on Texans coach DeMeco Ryans in San Francisco, is expected to start next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If all goes according to plan, Bryant will serve as the No. 2 option.

The former New England Patriots starter and training camp breakout star also should replace Ka’dar Hollman on special teams after the veteran cornerback suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Sunday’s loss against the Tennessee Titans.

After agreeing to terms on a one-year deal this offseason, Bryant made a big impression on the Texans coaching staff and personnel department during training camp. He initially made the Texans’ active roster after cutdowns and even saw action in several games.

Houston elected to release Bryant once Jeff Okudah was healthy enough to return. After he cleared waivers, the Texans brought him back to the practice squad.

For his NFL career, Bryant has totaled 200 tackles, two sacks, nine tackles for losses, four interceptions, 17 pass deflections, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

The Texans hit the road to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13 for a shot to extend their seven-game winning streak against divisional opponents on the road. With a win, Houston would secure a 4-1 record in the AFC South play before the Bye Week.

Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is scheduled for noon CT.

Texans vs. Jaguars broadcast map: Will the game be on TV?

The Houston Texans will be on a smaller television market than usual in Sunday’s outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Houston Texans (7-5) hit the road for an AFC South showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) in Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season on Sunday, Dec. 1.

The AFC showdown will be locally televised on FOX and available to stream on FuboTV (try it free). With a win, Houston would improve to 4-1 in the division rankings entering the Bye Week.

Kevin Kugler (play-by-play) and Daryl Johnston (analyst) will work the broadcast booth. Laura Okmin (sideline reporter) will conduct pregame interviews, halftime updates and postgame interviews as well.

On the radio, the game will be broadcast on SportsRadio 610.

Fans in the orange areas on the map below will get the Texans-Jaguars game on their local CBS channel, according to 506sp

The Texans are currently on a six-game winning streak against the Jaguars when playing away from NRG Stadium. Last season, Houston secured a 37-17 win in Week 3 that served as the backbone toward a stellar 10-7 finish.

Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is scheduled for noon CT.

Could Texans end Jaguars season with a win in Week 13?

If the Houston Texans win, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ season could be over before Week 14.

The Houston Texans can’t clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

They can, however, end all talks of an improbable comeback out in Duval County for 2024.

Sitting at 2-9 and in last place in the AFC South, a loss to the Texans (7-5) on Sunday would knock Jacksonville out of its divisional running, per NFLplayoffscenarios.com.

Houston must win to knock Jacksonville out of the divisional race, but more chaos must occur for the Jaguars to be completely eliminated from the postseason conversation altogether.

The favorites to land the No. 1 overall pick, Jacksonville would be eliminated from postseason contention by losing paired with the Los Angeles Chargers (7-4) and Denver Broncos (7-5), both winning or tying their Week 13 matchups, against the Atlanta Falcons (6-5) and Cleveland Browns (3-8), respectively.

The Texans would improve to 4-1 in the AFC South with a victory over the Jaguars and could clinch a playoff berth in several weeks following a Week 14 bye.

Houston is looking to return to its winning ways after falling short of a comeback against the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. Will Levis tossed two touchdown passes, including a game-winning 70-yard score to tight end Chig Okonkwo in the fourth quarter.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT on FOX.
