LSU women’s hoops dominates again in final exhibition game

The Tigers wrapped up their exhibition schedule with a 117-37 win on Wednesday night.

Two exhibition games down, and the LSU women’s basketball team looks to be in tip-top shape entering the season. Once again, it wasn’t even close as the Tigers dispatched an overmatched NAIA opponent in LSU-Alexandria, winning 117-37.

It was another big game for star junior guard [autotag]Flau’Jae Johnson[/autotag], who led the team with 29 points. Transfer [autotag]Kailyn Gilbert[/autotag] was another standout, finishing second behind Johnson with 26 points.

Six Tigers scored in double figures with Johnson and Gilbert joined by [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag] (15 points), [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag] (14), [autotag]Sa’Myah Smith[/autotag] (12) and [autotag]Aalyah Del Rosario[/autotag] (10 points). Smith, returning from a season-ending injury last year, also notched a double-double with 10 rebounds.

LSU shot a stunning 67.7% from the field in this game, including 5 of 9 on three-point attempts, while holding the Generals to 22.8% shooting and forcing 25 turnovers.

With a pair of tuneup exhibitions under their belt, the Tigers are ready to begin the regular season on Monday night with a contest against Eastern Kentucky.

LSU women’s basketball rolls in exhibition opener against Xavier (New Orleans)

The Tigers’ new-look roster took the court together for the first time in an exhibition win on Thursday night at the PMAC.

The 2024-25 LSU women’s basketball team took the court for the first time on Thursday night in an exhibition matchup against Xavier (New Orleans) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, and it was an impressive debut.

The Tigers rolled against the NAIA opponent, beating the Gold Nuggets 114-53.

It was a huge game for junior star [autotag]Flau’Jae Johnson[/autotag], whose 30-point, 10-rebound double-double paced the team. [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag] also recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds of her own.

LSU’s newcomers made a solid first impression as well, with three of them scoring in double figures. Transfers [autotag]Jersey Wolfenbarger[/autotag] and [autotag]Mjracle Sheppard[/autotag] each scored 12 points, while [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag], the top player in Louisiana and most highly touted member of LSU’s 2024 signing class, scored 14 points in her first appearance with the purple and gold.

The Tigers shot 58.2% from the field in a prolific offensive performance, including a 6 of 13 mark from three-point range, where LSU struggled last season. The defense impressed against a lower-division opponent, holding Xavier to 34% shooting while forcing 33 turnovers that resulted in a whopping 47 points for LSU going the other way.

It was the kind of showing the Tigers wanted to see in the exhibition, and they’ll look for a similar result when they host LSU-Alexandria next Wednesday. Coach Kim Mulkey’s team opens the regular season against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 4.

LSU women’s basketball top-100 signee Jada Richard arrives on campus

The Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year has officially arrived in Baton Rouge.

LSU women’s basketball will have a lot of new faces on the roster in 2024-25, and one of those pieces arrived on campus in Baton Rouge on Sunday.

[autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag], a four-star prospect and top-100 recruit in ESPN’s women’s basketball high school rankings, officially moved in and is set to join the Tigers as they seek to make another deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Richard, who hails from Lafayette Christian Academy, was named the Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year in March. She committed to the Tigers in April of 2023 and signed her national letter of intent with the program last November.

After losing [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] to the WNBA draft and [autotag]Hailey Van Lith[/autotag] to the transfer portal, the Tigers added a transfer class featuring four experienced guards.

Richard, a 5-foot-6 point guard, will try to find her place in an absolutely loaded LSU backcourt.

Former LSU women’s basketball guard Angelica Velez commits to Syracuse

Angelica Velez has found her new home in the transfer portal.

A former LSU women’s basketball guard has announced her transfer destination.

On Sunday morning, [autotag]Angelica Velez[/autotag] announced on social media that she has committed to continue her career at Syracuse. A true freshman this past season from the Bronx, Velez appeared in 23 games coming off the bench and totaled 111 minutes while averaging 1.2 points with 13 total assists and rebounds.

Though she likely would have seen a much more significant role next season after the departure of [autotag]Hailey Van Lith[/autotag] in the transfer portal, she opted to do the same and now joins a Syracuse team that finished last season 24-8 and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.

LSU has done a lot of work rebuilding the backcourt this offseason, adding a trio of experienced guard transfers in [autotag]Kailyn Gilbert[/autotag], [autotag]Shayeanne Day-Wilson[/autotag] and [autotag]Mjracle Shepphard[/autotag]. It also signed the top player in Louisiana in guard [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag].

LSU women’s basketball signee Jada Richard named Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year

Jada Richard succeeds LSU’s Mikaylah Williams, who won the award the last two seasons.

Coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] continues to acquire elite talent for the LSU women’s basketball team, and its top signee in the 2024 class has been named the Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year.

[autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag] received the honor after the Lafayette Christian Academy 5-foot-7 guard led the Knights to their fourth consecutive state title two weeks ago. As a senior this season, she averaged 26.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.7 steals.

Richard led the Knights to a 32-2 record and scored 18 points as they captured the state title. She was named the game’s MVP for the second time in her career, and she was the Class 4A Player of the Year this season.

Richard succeeds LSU guard [autotag]Mikaylah Williams[/autotag], the two-time reigning Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year. Richard currently ranks 97th nationally in the ESPNW Top 100 recruiting rankings.

LSU misses the cut for top women’s basketball prospect in 2024 class

The Tigers didn’t make the top three for Sarah Strong, the No. 1 player in the 2024 cycle.

LSU has been a routine contender for elite talent since coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] arrived in Baton Rouge two years ago, but it has missed the cut for the top women’s basketball prospect in the 2024 cycle.

ESPN reported Thursday that [autotag]Sarah Strong[/autotag], a forward from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, is down to three schools.

LSU was not among them. The No. 1 player in the nation per the ESPNW Top 100 is down to Duke, North Carolina and UConn.

The top three make a decent deal of geographic sense for the North Carolina native, and Mulkey’s squad will miss out on adding another elite player.

LSU has one commitment in the 2024 cycle from a top 100 prospect: Louisiana native [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag].

LSU women’s basketball signee nominated for McDonald’s All-American Game

Jada Richard is a four-star point guard who is ranked as a top-100 player in the country.

One of Kim Mulkey’s top signees in the 2024 recruiting class has been nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Game. [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag] is a four-star point guard who is ranked as a top-100 player in the country. Richard signed with LSU out of Lafayette Christian Academy in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Richard was the No. 1 women’s basketball prospect in the state of Louisiana. She has helped lead her team to three straight state championships and in two games last weekend, she scored 84 points.

Mulkey has led the LSU Lady Tigers to a 15-1 record currently with their only loss coming in the first game of the season to Colorado. The Tigers have just entered conference play and they are 2-0 so far with wins over Missouri and Ole Miss.

They will take on Texas A&M on Thursday night at the Pete Maravich Center. The Tigers are currently ranked as the No. 7 team in the country.

5-star LSU women’s basketball target to announce commitment on Friday

Jaloni Cambridge, the top guard in the 2024 class, will announce her college decision on Friday.

Acquiring top talent hasn’t been an issue for [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] since arriving in Baton Rouge, and she’s looking to land another elite high school prospect in five-star guard [autotag]Jaloni Cambridge[/autotag].

Cambridge, the No. 3 player in America and top guard in the 2024 class, will announce her college commitment on Friday. The product of Montverde Academy in Florida by way of Nashville, Tennessee, will announce her decision between Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, South Carolina, Louisville, Baylor and the Tigers.

Cambridge officially visited LSU in November and was on hand for the team’s national championship banner unveiling and ring ceremony. The Tigers will hope she becomes the second commit in the 2024 class alongside [autotag]Jada Richard[/autotag], who signed during the early signing period last month.

Cambridge is the second-highest-ranked uncommitted prospect in the 2024 class behind North Carolina forward [autotag]Sarah Strong[/autotag], the No. 1 player in the nation. The Tigers are in the mix for strong, as well, though they’re in a two-team race with blue-blood UConn.
