‘Being us was the best thing for us tonight ‘ Everything the players had to say after the home victory over DePaul

Here’s what Texas A&M guards Manny Obaseki & Jace Carter had to say after the Aggies’ home victory over DePaul

After a long road stint, the Aggies returned home to face the DePaul Tigers and had themselves a night. They shot lights out for most of the game and over 60% in the 1st half alone.

With Tyrece Radford currently not on the court or the Aggies, they have been trying to find a way to replace his production, and Manny Obaskei and Jace Carter came up big tonight. They combined for a total of 24 points and five three-pointers.

Transfer Jace Carter has been in a shooting rut to start the season and was finally able to see a few of his three-pointers drop today. Both Obaskei and Carter spoke about how hard he’s been working and the confidence the team has in him:

“It brings a lot of joy to me to see everybody eating. I was so happy for Jace, he’s been working every day. That’s what he does. Everybody’s been working.” – Manny Obaskei

“My teammates, they instill so much confidence in me. They tell me to keep shooting.” – Jace Carter

Texas A&M’s backcourt has the potential to reach elite territory in 2023

With the news that guard Tyrece Radford will return for the 2023 campaign, Texas A&M’s backcourt is the deepest rotation in the SEC.

The Texas A&M Basketball program could not be in better hands than under head coach Buzz Williams, who, after leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament last season, is just scratching the surface of what he and a loaded roster can accomplish in 2023.

With news that star point guard Tyrece Radford will return for his final collegiate season with the Maroon and White, Texas A&M’s backcourt led by All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV, including transfer additions in guards Jace Carter and Eli Lawrence solidifies this group as one the deepest, and most talented rotations in the SEC, and the country.

On Thursday, SEC college basketball analyst Patric Young made an appearance on TexAgs Radio to discuss the impact of Radford’s return, noting his leadership, high basketball IQ and slashing ability in the paint while confidently placing similar high expectations on A&M’s chances to compete for an SEC Title that we usually hear when discussing Kentucky, Alabama, and Tennessee.

Radford scored second on the team last season with 13.3 ppg, including 5.3 rebounds, while shooting 79.6% from the free-throw line. Entering his all-important junior season, Wade Taylor IV broke out in 2022, leading the Aggies with 16.3 ppg, 3.9 assists while shooting an incredible 87.8% from the stripe, as he and Radford were by the most consistent guard duo down the stretch.

Add in former Illinois-Chicago guard Jace Carter, who averaged 13.1 ppg and 6.4 rebounds for the Flames last season. In addition, former Middle Tennesse State guard Eli Lawrence, who shot 40% from the field and averaged 9.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 2022, Buzz Williams is flushed with dependable scoring options, while 2023 four-star combo guard Bryce Lindsay will make his way to College Station this summer to provide an instant 3-point shooting threat hopefully.

With four out of five starters officially returning for the 2023 season, here’s what the depth chart should look like in its early stages:

  • Point guard: Wade Taylor IV, Andre Gordon
  • Shooting guard: Tyrece Radford, Manny Obaseki, Jace Carter
  • Small Forward: Eli Lawrence, Jace Carter, Hayden Hefner
  • Power forward: Henry Coleman III, Andersson Garcia
  • Center: Julius Marble, Solomon Washington

Transfer guard Jace Carter officially signs with Texas A&M basketball

The Aggies basketball team continues to bolster its roster after transfer shooting guard Jace Carter officially signed with the Maroon and White on Tuesday afternoon.

After beefing up its schedule earlier this week with a home-and-home series, Texas A&M basketball is also bolstering its roster with a key transfer portal addition.

On Tuesday afternoon shooting guard Jace Carter officially signed as the newest member of Aggies basketball. After announcing his intention to commit to the Maroon and White last week, Carter and the Aggies made the addition official with an announcement post shared on social media.

Carter was a three-star prospect in the Class of 2021 and initially committed to the University of Illinois-Chicago. In two seasons with the Flames, he averaged 13.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while averaging 31.0 minutes per game on the floor.

The Titusville native joins 2023 three-star center Brandon White as the latest addition to the Aggies basketball team.

Texas A&M assistant coach Steve Roccaforte expressed his excitement in the aftermath of Carter’s signing, noting that a player of his caliber is destined to thrive in Buzz Williams’ system. As a talent that can crash the boards and defend on the other end, the Maroon and White have been vocal about how fortunate they are to have him on the roster.

Welcome Jace, and we can’t wait to see the impact you make on the hardwood! Gig’Em!

Former Illinois-Chicago SG Jace Carter announces commitment to Texas A&M

Buzz Williams is getting a dual-impact player in former Illinois-Chicago guard Jace Carter, who brings averages of 16.6 PPG and 7.0 RPG after verbally committing to the Aggies.

The future of Texas A&M basketball is looking especially bright after Buzz Williams’ program received another verbal commitment on Wednesday afternoon.

Former University of Illinois-Chicago shooting guard Jace Carter, who entered the college basketball transfer portal last month, announced his commitment to Texas A&M through social media. Carter spent two seasons with the Flames and has two years of eligibility remaining.

In speaking with 247 sports last month, Carter noted that he had interest from Arkansas, Clemson, Michigan State, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Villanova.

At 6’5″ and 215 lbs, Carter recorded averages of 16.6 PPG and 7.0 RPG during the 2022 season and earned second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. He is a career 32.4 percent shooter from three.

The former 3-star recruit in the Class of 2021 also averaged 1.3 steals per game as a sophomore, further illustrating just how he can impact a game at all levels. He’s a proven bucket-getter who has a hunger for crashing the boards, while also not shying away from giving the same effort on the defensive end.

If he sounds like a perfect fit in Buzz Williams’ system, it’s because he is. In light of the departure of Dexter Dennis following his last year of eligibility, Carter will be a great veteran addition to a young, high-octane backcourt headlined by All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV.

Congrats to Carter on committing to the Aggies and we look forward to seeing your impact next season!
