New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Game 2 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Boston Bruins play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs second-round series Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders were dropped 5-2 in the series opener, but it wasn’t as bad as the score might indicate. The game was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes and 2-2 after 40 minutes. The B’s outscored the Isles 3-0 in the final 20, however.

The Bruins registered five total goals with three of them coming off the stick of David Pastrnak. He registered his second-career NHL postseason hat trick, joining Phil Esposito, Johnny Bucyk and Cam Neely as the only players to record at least two playoff tricks in B’s franchise history.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Bruins -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-160) | Bruins -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -130 | U: +105)

Islanders at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Sorokin (13-6-3, 2.17 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Tuukka Rask (15-5-2, 2.28 GAA, .913 SV%, 2 SO)

Sorokin wasn’t terrible in Game 1, but he had no answers for Pasta. The rookie might be on a much shorter leash as Semyon Varlamov waits in the wings in the event head coach Barry Trotz wants to change course.

Rask is the steadying force in the crease for Boston. One of the two goals he allowed in Game 1 was on the power play to Anthony Beauvillier, which was not really his fault. He made 20 saves on 22 shots.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that is just too expensive even if you love the home team. Look to the puck line instead.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+135) are a better play in this one, although it could be a lot closer than the series opener. The results should be the same, however. That is, this game will be close early on, and then the B’s will pull away late.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5 (-130) is the play, albeit a little on the expensive side. Boston scored five goals on their own in Game 1, and they have the potential to hit the number again in Game 2. All of the head-to-head trends and recent team trends point to the Under, but sometimes you have to go with your gut.

New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Game 1 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Boston Bruins play Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs second-round series Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders polished off the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games while the Bruins pushed past the Washington Capitals in five games in the first round.

New York won the first five meetings in the regular season before Boston won the final three meetings. Four of the eight games between these teams were decided by one goal, including the most recent battle May 10 in Boston, a 3-2 overtime win for the B’s.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Bruins -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-175) | Bruins -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -125 | U: +105)

Islanders at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Sorokin (13-6-3, 2.17 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Tuukka Rask (15-5-2, 2.28 GAA, .913 SV%, 2 SO)

Sorokin was entrusted to start in the first round after Semyon Varlamov missed Game 1 and then was shaky in his return. All Sorokin did was rattle off four wins in his four games to lead the mild upset of the Penguins.

The rookie was 0-1-1 against the B’s in two starts in the regular season, but he had a stellar 2.23 GAA and .921 SV%.

Rask posted a 2-2-0 record in four starts and five appearances against the Islanders this season posting a sparkling 1.86 GAA and .925 SV%.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-190) are just a smidge over my personal money line limit of -180, and I don’t love them enough in Game 1 to override that thinking. The Islanders (+155) looked rock-solid against the Penguins; so betting against them is a coin-flip right now.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+145) is a much better value, although I’d go lightly here, too. Four of the eight regular-season meetings were decided by one goal. However, the Islanders +1.5 (-175) are just 2-6 in their past eight trips to Beantown, and the home side has won seven of the past eight meetings.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5 (-140) is the lean in this series opener. The goalies were strong in the first-round series for each side, but I still have a little bit of a problem trusting my money on a rookie backstop. The bright lights and intensity will be turned up a touch in the second round, and it will be interesting to see how Sorokin handles things against the likes of David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and company. Over is the play here.

New York Islanders at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s New York Islanders at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders (27-12-4) and Boston Bruins (23-12-6) clash for the second straight night at TD Garden Friday. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET for the second half of the back-to-back in Boston. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins are fourth in the East Division and tenuously hold the division’s final playoff spot. They beat the Islanders 4-1 Thursday with LW Brad Marchand scoring twice, LW Taylor Hall scoring his first goal since being acquired at the trade deadline and with G Tuukka Rask stopping 22 of 23 shots in his return from an injury absence.

The Isles remain second in the East despite dropping two of their last three games, both by 4-1 scores. They’ve lost two or more games in a row just four times this season.

Boston’s win Thursday was its first through six games in the head-to-head season series.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:10 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Bruins -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-275) | Bruins -1.5 (+220)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +110 | U: -135)

Islanders at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Sorokin (11-3-1, .915 SV%, 2.17 GAA) at Jeremy Swayman (3-1-0, .926 SV%, 2.22 GAA)

Sorokin is riding a personal three-game winning streak and stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in a win over the New York Rangers Sunday. The rookie hasn’t faced Boston yet this season. His save percentage and goals against average drop to .901 and 2.73, respectively, when on the road.

Swayman should re-enter the crease Friday with Rask unlikely to make back-to-back starts fresh off the injured list. The 22-year-old from Alaska stopped 21 of 23 shots from the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday in his most recent outing.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 4, Bruins 3

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (+105) have a significant advantage in the battle of backup goaltenders and should be backed as slight road underdogs.

The Bruins outshot the Islanders 45-23 and registered 58.82% of the total shot attempts at 5-on-5 Thursday. Boston has the better possession rate for the season, but New York registers a higher percentage of full-strength scoring chances.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the puck line with the value residing in the Islanders on the money line. The lean is to the Islanders +1.5 (-275) but not anywhere near this price with a $10 bet returning a profit of just $3.64.

Three of the six head-to-head meetings this season were decided by single-goal margins.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (+110) is the play with both teams likely to be starting the lesser of their two goaltending options Friday.

Sorokin’s season numbers are excellent, but he has struggled slightly on the road and will face the hungry Bruins for the first time.

New York Islanders at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New York Islanders at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders (27-11-4) begin a road back-to-back against the Boston Bruins (22-12-6) Thursday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders, second in the East Division, have won five of their last six games. They responded from a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers Friday with a 3-2 overtime win Sunday. The Isles outscored the opposition 19-14 over the six-game run.

The Bruins are fourth in the East and loosely hold the division’s final playoff seed. They needed a shootout to beat the lowly Buffalo Sabres 3-2 Tuesday. The win came on the heels of an 8-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.

New York leads the head-to-head season series 5-0 with the most recent victory coming by a 4-3 count in overtime March 25. The Isles have outscored the Bruins 18-8 in the series.

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:26 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Bruins -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-275) | Bruins -1.5 (+210)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +120 | U: -145)

Islanders at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov (16-8-3, .922 SV%, 2.21 GAA) at Tuukka Rask (8-4-2, .907 SV%, 2.40 GAA)

Varlamov was in net for the loss to the Rangers and allowed 3 goals on 35 shots. It followed his fourth shutout of the season which came in a 29-save effort against the Capitals. He earned all five victories against Boston and sports a .949 save percentage and 1.57 goals against average in the series.

Rask (upper body) is once again questionable to make his first start since March 25. The former Vezina Trophy winner was having a down year by his standards but the B’s desperately need him back to retain their playoff spot. He is 0-2-0 against the Isles but with 60 saves on 65 shots.

Special NHL Betting Promotion!

Bet $1 on either team’s money line, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team scores a goal in the game. Betting offer available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV. Place your legal, online bets at BetMGM. New customer offer, terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Islanders at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 3, Bruins 1

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-105) are undeserving underdogs based on their 5-0 lead in the season series and Varlamov’s elite play. If Rask suits up, he’ll be rusty, and if he doesn’t, the Isles will have an even easier time finding the back of the net.

Boston has been outscored 80-72 while going 12-11-4 since Feb. 13. The Bruins won back-to-back games just twice in that stretch and were wholly unimpressive in squeaking past the Sabres.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Boston took New York beyond 60 minutes in each of its last two head-to-head losses. It is 0-5 in the season series, was favored each time and lost by 2 or more goals twice.

Take the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+240) on the alternate puck line for the best value in this game, even though just one of their past seven wins was by a margin of 2 or more goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-145) is the play while following suit of our picks of the Islanders. The season series is 3-2 against the O/U but Boston hasn’t scored more than 3 goals in any game.

The Islanders are carrying the goal-scoring weight in the series but have been held to 3 or fewer goals in each of their last five games coming into this back-to-back.
