Oklahoma is coming off a 1-point loss to Texas in its conference opener while Iowa State is coming in after whipping Baylor 77-52. The Cyclones have started the season strong and Oklahoma should not be the favored team in this matchup. So, I will take the value with Iowa State +135 as my favorite wager.

The wrong team is favored here. I would rather take the increased value of this with a moneyline wager and stay away from the spread here.

Over/Under

Iowa State this season is 3-9 to the Over in games. Oklahoma is a little better at 6-7, but neither team has the offensive fire power of the top teams in the country. Things have gone off the rails a bit for Iowa State, losing two of the past three, and going 1-3 ATS in the previous four outings. The defense was trampled at Texas Tech in a 41-38 loss in Lubbock last Saturday.

The Sooners fell at Baylor 27-14 last week as 4-point favorites. The Sooners enter this game just 1-2 ATS across the past three, and 4-6 ATS on the season.

OKLAHOMA (-175) isn’t a bad play at this price if you just want to forget about laying the points and pick a winner straight up. The Sooners aren’t returning home and losing to Iowa State even though the Cyclones have been a thorn in the side of the Sooners in recent seasons. OU is angry, which is bad news for the visitors.

Against the spread

OKLAHOMA -3.5 (-108) will bounce back after last week’s debacle at Waco, taking out its frustrations on Iowa State.

This game will be a seesaw affair early on, as QB Brock Purdy and the Cyclones offense is potent, and will challenge the favorites. But the Sooners will find a way, and should win this one by at least a touchdown, tapping into last week’s loss for motivation.

Over/Under

The OVER 60.5 (-108) is the best bet on the board in this game. Yes, Oklahoma scored a season-low 14 points last week. It won’t happen again.

Iowa State posted 89 rushing yards and 356 passing yards last week, while allowing 207 yards on the ground and 322 yards through the air. This game is going to be a shootout, and Over bettors might be holding a winning ticket sometime in the third quarter if everything goes according to plan.

  1. Iowa State lost every single conference game this season, although it did come within five last time out at Kansas State of erasing that goose egg. But it was a loss, and a push, nonetheless. The Cyclones were also 0-3-1 ATS across the final four outings.
  2. Oklahoma finished the season on a four-game slide, although it was a series of close calls. They lost by five at K-State Feb. 23, they lost by four in OT at home against Oklahoma State Feb. 27, and by four in regulation in Stillwater, Okla., March 1. They were also edged 69-65 against Texas Thursday in the regular-season finale. They haven’t covered in the past five games dating back to Feb. 13 at West Virginia.
  3. These teams met twice in the regular season, with Oklahoma winning 66-56 in Iowa as an 11.5-point favorite Feb. 20, while the Sooners won on their home floor 79-72 Feb. 6 as 14-point favorites.
