Big changes to Texas A&M’s Week 13 injury report ahead of facing Auburn

Could running back Rueben Owens return to the lineup this season?

15th-ranked Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) will head to Alabama this weekend to face Auburn (4-6, 1-5 SEC) in a must-win matchup for the Aggies, who are vying for a spot in the SEC Title game and the College Football Playoff.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Aggies will stay at No. 15 in the CFP rankings, still needing to win out to reach the 12-team field. However, this isn’t a surprise, even though A&M’s two losses are to South Carolina (on the road) and Notre Dame, who are both ranked.

This week, head coach Mike Elko’s focus on the Auburn Tigers hasn’t wavered despite his slip of the tongue on Monday, knowing that playing on the road in any SEC environment, especially at night, is always a significant challenge.

Injury-wise, Monday’s news that junior wide receiver Cyrus Allen will miss the rest of the season isn’t as surprising as the newest Wednesday availability report, revealing two key injury updates to starting left guard Chase Bisontis and sophomore running back Rueben Owens.

Texas A&M injury updates:

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Doubtful)
  • Le’Veon Moss – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB
  • Chase Bisontis – OL (Doubtful)
  • Jaylen Henerson – QB
  • Cyrus Allen – WR (Out for the season)

Chase Bisontis Update:

While Elko didn’t provide an update on Monday, starting left guard Chase Bisontis likely won’t play against Auburn unless something changes this week. However, Wednesday’s reveal gives the sophomore a 25% chance to play, meaning a return to Texas is almost guaranteed if he doesn’t suit up this weekend.

Rueben Owens Update:

This was the most surprising news of the week, as the rumblings regarding Rueben Owen’s return to the active roster after his previous season-ending lower leg injury have come to fruition. Listed as doubtful, Owens, like Bisontis, has a 25% chance to make his season debut, but this is a great sign either way regarding his eventual return to A&M’s depleted RB room.

Texas A&M will face Auburn on the road on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ESPN.
