Kansas City Chiefs front office executive Ryan Poles will get a second interview with the New York Giants for their general manager vacancy.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, after interviewing with the Giants last week, Poles has made it to the second round of interviews. New York interviewed a whopping nine candidates last week, and they’ve whittled things down to their finalists in the search, where they’ll conduct in-person interviews.

Poles joins Buffalo Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen as the two finalists to get to this round of the interview process. It’s unclear if they will interview more candidates a second time, but Schoen appears to be the main competition for Poles in this job.

Poles has spent over a decade in Kansas City, surviving three front-office regimes during his time with the Chiefs. He began his career as a scouting assistant under Scott Pioli and worked his way up. He was Director of College Scouting under John Dorsey and most recently holds the title of Executive Director of Player Personnel under Brett Veach.

A big reason why Poles is appealing to the Giants brass is that he can fix their offensive line situation. A former college left guard for Matt Ryan at Boston College, Poles played a big part in the Chiefs’ offensive line rebuild this past season. He was instrumental in the team’s decision to draft Creed Humphrey, who has seen a seamless transition to the NFL.

Chiefs fans should be rooting for Poles to get an opportunity with the Giants. Not only is he deserving of the opportunity, but his departure could help the team in the next two NFL drafts. If Poles becomes the next GM for New York, under the NFL’s new system for developing minority coaches and personnel executives, Kansas City will be compensated with third-round compensatory picks in each of the next two drafts for his departure.

Giants request interview with Chiefs executive Ryan Poles for GM vacancy

The #Giants have requested an interview with #Chiefs Executive Director of Player Personnel Ryan Poles for their GM vacancy per a new report.

For the second consecutive season, it looks like Kansas City Chiefs front office executive Ryan Poles will interview for general manager jobs.

Last season, Poles interviewed twice for the Carolina Panthers GM vacancy. Now, he’s in line to interview for the New York Giants vacancy after GM Dave Gettleman announced his retirement from the NFL. According to CBS reporter Jonathan Jones, the Giants have formally requested an interview with Poles for their vacancy.

Poles survived three front-office regimes during his time with the Chiefs. He’s risen through the ranks during his career, originally getting his start as a scouting assistant under Scott Pioli. He’s since served in roles such as College Scouting Coordinator and Director of College Scouting under John Dorsey and Brett Veach, but now he holds the title of Executive Director of Player Personnel in Kansas City.

One reason why Poles might have some appeal for New York is that he played a big role in the Chiefs’ offensive line rebuild this past season. That’s been a big problem area for the Giants in recent seasons and one of the things halting their success in a relatively weak NFC East conference. Poles played a big part in the team’s decision to draft Creed Humphrey, who has been stellar in his first year with the team.

Poles is just the first front office executive to see an interview request in Kansas City. With multiple vacancies at the GM position throughout the league, expect others like Assistant GM Mike Borgonzi and VP of Football Operations Brandt Tilis to receive in interest.

Report: Eagles request interview with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

All NFL teams with a vacancy have officially requested an interview with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator has now received interview requests from every NFL team with a head-coaching vacancy this cycle.

According to a new report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Philidelphia Eagles have officially asked for permission to interview Eric Bieniemy for their head-coaching vacancy. They don’t have a specific interview-date scheduled due to the NFL’s anti-tampering policy and the Chiefs still being in contention in the playoffs.

The Eagles were the last team to fire their head coach, parting ways with former Chiefs OC Doug Pederson after five seasons. He led Philly to its first Super Bowl win back in 2017 in Super Bowl LII.

Bieniemy has already interviewed with five teams, three of which have officially hired new head coaches. He still needs to interview with the Houston Texans, who also submit a late interview request.

The Eagles might be Bieniemy’s best remaining shot to land a head-coaching job during this cycle. He has ties there as a player, playing with the Eagles for a season under Andy Reid back in 1999. Reid also remains well-connected in Philadelphia and has been one of the strongest proponents for Bieniemy getting an opportunity to run his own team. He’s given very public recommendations in each of the past three coaching cycles. If Jeffrey Lurie or Howie Roseman gave Reid a call, there’s no doubt that he’d give a glowing review of Bieniemy in private too.

In addition to Bieniemy, there’s been some reported interest from Philly in Chiefs QB coach Mike Kafka, who also has some history with the Eagles as a former player. The interest in the Reid coaching tree remains high, despite the recent split with Pederson.
