Instant Reactions: Ducks don’t fall into the Bears’ trap with huge win

Those who were hoping the Ducks would look past the Bears were severely disappointed as Oregon defeated Cal 63-19.

It would have been easy to overlook a team such as California since the game with the Bears came after a huge road win at Utah and before playing USC.

But the Ducks showed that they just aren’t built that way as their focus was completely on the Bears and the final score of 63-19 bore that out.

Wide receiver Tez Johnson had his best game as a Ducks with 12 catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Bo Nix furthered his Heisman numbers with 386 yards passing and six total touchdowns, four passing and two rushing.

Unfortunately, a damper was put on the entire day, which saw Cal running back Jaivian Thomas go down with a serious injury where he needed to be carted off and leave Autzen in an ambulance.

With the win, Oregon moves to 8-1 overall, 5-1 in Pac-12 play and its playoff resume just got that much better. On the other sideline, Cal fell to 3-6 overall and just 1-5 in conference action.

Instant Reactions: Oregon’s hot start allows for a thrashing of Utah

Oregon went into Salt Lake City and dominated Utah on both sides of the ball with a 35-6 victory, ending their 18-game home winning streak.

Oregon coming out of Utah with a win would have been nice, but no one expected them to win quite like this.

The Ducks dominated the Utes for four quarters in Salt Lake City and Oregon goes back to Eugene with a 35-6 victory.

They’re now 7-1 overall, 4-1 in conference, and have the bragging rights, for now, as the best team in the Pac-12. The win also broke Utah’s 18-game home winning streak.

It was a given that Oregon would put points on the board, but the Duck defense completely stifled Utah’s offense and held them to single figures.

Safety Tysheem Johnson was the defensive star of the game with his two interceptions and Oregon held Utah to just 99 rushing yards and 241 total yards.
