Jimmie Johnson joins NBC for Indy 500, three big NASCAR races in 2024

Jimmie Johnson will join NBC for the Indianapolis 500 and three big NASCAR races in 2024. Find out the details about Johnson’s new gig!

[autotag]Jimmie Johnson[/autotag] returned to NASCAR as Legacy Motor Club’s new co-owner for the 2023 season, and his presence has only increased. Johnson has competed in several NASCAR Cup Series races during the 2024 season as he works behind the scenes for the organization. Now, the seven-time Cup Series champion will start a new journey in May.

Johnson announced that he will join NBC Sports to perform his version of “The Double” by contributing to the pre-race and race coverage of the 2024 Indianapolis 500 and competing in the Coca-Cola 600 that night. Johnson will also serve as an NBC Sports analyst in the Cup Series races at Daytona on August 25, Talladega on October 6, and Phoenix on November 10.

The Legacy Motor Club driver is also scheduled to drive the No. 84 car for his organization at Phoenix in November. Overall, this is a cool opportunity for Johnson and race fans, as more coverage from NASCAR’s greatest driver is excellent. It is remarkable that Johnson is back in NASCAR, and hopefully, this trend of more involvement continues.

[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] will attempt “The Double” on May 26, which consists of the Coca-Cola 600 and the 2024 Indianapolis 500. However, Larson will still have conflicts in his racing schedule with the NASCAR All-Star Weekend at North Wilkesboro Speedway and Indianapolis 500 qualifying. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is expected to compete in the All-Star Race, but things can change if needed.

With NASCAR revealing its All-Star Race format, the following question was created: Will Larson be able to compete in all of the on-track action? Hendrick Motorsports didn’t believe that was the case, so Kevin Harvick will practice and qualify for Larson in North Wilkesboro.

NTT IndyCar Series ‘feared’ to lose Honda amid NASCAR rumors

The NTT IndyCar Series is “feared” to lose Honda amid NASCAR rumors. When could Honda leave IndyCar if the rumors come true?

Over the last few years, NASCAR has been pushing for Honda to join the Cup Series as a fourth manufacturer alongside Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota. Recently, it was reported that fans of NASCAR and Honda would probably be “really happy” in the future. Now, another nugget about Honda makes its future in the NTT IndyCar Series murky.

RACER’s Marshall Pruett joined SpeedFreaks and updated the IndyCar world on the status of Honda. Based on what Pruett said, IndyCar has a reason to be concerned about Honda’s backing.

“Nothing confirmed, but we fear Honda will be out here in the next 18 months or so,” Pruett said. “We hope that won’t be the case but it’s a legitimate concern, and what does [the NTT IndyCar Series] do from there?”

IndyCar losing Honda would be a nightmare scenario, as the manufacturer is one of two in the series. Honda and Chevrolet make up the entries, so IndyCar would lose a significant presence. Could this report correlate with NASCAR? It remains to be seen; however, IndyCar must find a way to keep Honda in the series moving forward.

Roger Penske addresses possibility of selling the NTT IndyCar Series

Roger Penske addresses the possibility of selling the NTT IndyCar Series. Check out what Penske had to say about IndyCar changing hands!

[autotag]Roger Penske[/autotag] has been the center of attention in the NTT IndyCar Series over the last few seasons, and it has only increased. Team Penske recently suspended four key team members after the organization was caught manipulating the Push to Pass parameters in St. Petersburg. As the series owner, Penske has taken some heat as some people believe it’s a conflict of interest.

Following Team Penske’s announcement on its suspensions, Penske talked to IndyStar’s Nathan Brown and addressed the possibility of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the NTT IndyCar Series being for sale. Penske was adamant that it’s not the case.

“I can say to you that [Indianapolis Motor Speedway] and [the NTT IndyCar Series] are not for sale,” Penske said. “I feel if my reputation and actions I’ve taken the last 50 years aren’t good enough for people to understand how we do business, then I’m obviously disappointed.”

IndyCar has been in the news for the wrong reasons while other series, such as NASCAR, continue to have serious momentum. Penske may not make IndyCar available on the open market, but it’s fair to wonder what the series should do next. IndyCar has a lot of talent, personality, and parity, and Penske needs to find a way to put the series in the right direction.

Roger Penske releases new statement after big suspensions at Team Penske

Roger Penske releases a new statement after the big suspensions at Team Penske. Find out what Penske had to say about the cheating scandal!

[autotag]Team Penske[/autotag] has made significant decisions following the cheating scandal in the NTT IndyCar Series race in St. Petersburg. Tim Cindric, the president of Team Penske, and three other key race team members have been suspended for the next two IndyCar races, one of which is the 2024 Indianapolis 500.

[autotag]Roger Penske[/autotag], owner of Team Penske, released a statement alongside the decision to suspend Cindric and three other team employees. Penske expressed remorse for the situation and recognized its impact on IndyCar.

“I recognize the magnitude of what occurred and the impact it continues to have on the sport to which I’ve dedicated so many decades,” Penske said.” Everyone at Team Penske, along with our fans and business partners, should know that I apologize for the errors that were made, and I deeply regret them.”

This story won’t go away anytime soon, as Team Penske will be down several vital members in the biggest event of the entire racing season. The Indianapolis 500 is under three weeks away, and the organization still faces public criticism. Team Penske must put this behind them, but keeping the attention away moving forward will be hard.

Team Penske issues several big suspensions after cheating in St. Petersburg

Team Penske issues several big suspensions after cheating in the NTT IndyCar Series race at St. Petersburg. Check out the details!

[autotag]Team Penske[/autotag] released a surprising statement on Tuesday morning, which features several big suspensions after the cheating scandal stemming from St. Petersburg. According to the statement, after a “full and comprehensive analysis of the information, Team Penske has determined that there were significant failures in our processes and internal communications.”

As a result, Luke Mason (No. 2 car Race Engineer), Robbie Atkinson (Senior Data Engineer), Ron Ruzewski (Managing Director, Team Penske IndyCar), and Tim Cindric (President of Team Penske) have been suspended for the next two IndyCar races. This is a significant blow as those two events include the 2024 Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

Team Penske was found manipulating the NTT IndyCar Series’ Push to Pass system, which was allowed to be operated on the No. 2 and No. 3 cars during start and restarts. Cindric is a huge suspension for the organization as he is accountable for all of Team Penske’s operations. No drivers were suspended from the cheating scandal, but several key figures within Team Penske have been affected.

Chevrolet releases big statement on Team Penske’s cheating in IndyCar

Chevrolet has released a big statement on Team Penske’s cheating scandal in the NTT IndyCar Series. Check out what Chevrolet had to say!

[autotag]Team Penske[/autotag]’s cheating scandal from St. Petersburg has taken the paddock by storm. Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin were disqualified for manipulating the Push to Pass parameters. Some owners, such as A.J. Foyt, have defended Roger Penske’s team, while others have been critical. Now, Team Penske’s manufacturer has released a statement on the situation.

On Friday morning, GM President Mark Reuss released the following regarding IndyCar’s recent announcement of the penalty from the race in St. Petersburg in March 2024.

“We respect the decision and actions of INDYCAR as well as Team Penske’s commitment to improve their processes and controls,” Reuss said. “Chevrolet engaged a third-party law firm to conduct a thorough review of the matter, and they found no evidence that any Chevrolet employee had any knowledge of involvement in the matter.”

“Chevy looks forward to engaging with INDYCAR and our partner race teams to assist in any enhancements that further support the integrity of INDYCAR competition.”

This doesn’t mean Chevrolet is necessarily shaming Team Penske, but it appears that the organization did this without any knowledge from the manufacturer. It was important for Chevrolet to distance itself from the scandal, and they did just that on Friday. This story isn’t going away and Team Penske will need to do its best to put it behind them.
