[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] is attempting “The Double” in the 2024 Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on May 26, and it couldn’t have started much better. Larson really impressed in the opening week of practice and qualifying, as he will start in fifth place alongside teammate Alexander Rossi and Santino Ferrucci. It was a very impressive effort by the NASCAR superstar.

After Larson put down a great four-lap average during the Fast 6, he hopped in a helicopter, went to the 2024 NASCAR All-Star Race, and finished in fourth place. However, one of the coolest moments of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion’s week came during the FS1 pre-race show as he was interviewed before the All-Star Race.

NASCAR on FOX revealed a piece with [autotag]Mario Andretti[/autotag] talking about Larson attempting “The Double” on May 26. It was a special video that touched the heart of the Hendrick Motorsports driver. Below, you can watch the entire piece with Andretti.

It was an incredible moment for Larson, who is poised to have more over the next week. Larson is a generational talent, and even Andretti has taken notice of what he is trying to accomplish in the 2024 Indianapolis 500.

The first day of qualifying for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 is complete, and it was intense. Arrow McLaren and Chevy had several engine issues, while Rinus VeeKay had a big crash in the early morning. Team Penske led the way in the NTT IndyCar Series, but the remaining competitors had a very stressful day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Kyle Larson, Scott Dixon, more suffer issues in 2024 Indianapolis 500 qualifying

Kyle Larson, Scott Dixon, and others suffer issues in the first 2024 Indianapolis 500 qualifying session. Check out happened to Larson!

The first qualifying session for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 is underway, and several drivers are having issues. It started with Rinus VeeKay, who wrecked his No. 21 car after a great draw. Then, Kyle Larson bailed out of his final lap as it appeared his No. 17 car suffered a mechanical issue, only to discover nothing was wrong.

In the meantime, Larson’s teammate Pato O’Ward was pulled from the qualifying line, which means he will have to wait until the first round is over to put in a lap time. The hits kept coming for Arrow McLaren as Callum Ilott’s time was disallowed for a non-compliant left rear wheel offset. Needless to say, it has been a rough day for Arrow McLaren.

Finally, Chip Ganassi Racing announced that Scott Dixon will not make their drawn spot for qualifying after an engine change this morning. It has been a drama-filled morning of qualifying, with Team Penske currently holding the top 3 spots. The first qualifying day continues until 5:50 p.m. ET and can be watched on Peacock.

Kyle Larson addresses possibility of running 2025 Indianapolis 500

Kyle Larson addresses the possibility of running the 2025 Indianapolis 500. What did Larson say about the possibility of a second attempt?

[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] will attempt “The Double” in 2024 as he competes in the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600. It would be 1,100 miles in one day, which hasn’t been attempted since Kurt Busch in 2014. However, this might not be Larson’s only attempt at the Indianapolis 500, as he has the option to run it again in 2025.

In an interview with FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion addressed the possibility of running the 2025 Indianapolis 500 after he was asked how many times he’ll run the event.

“I don’t. I’ve heard two years,” Larson said. “But, I really just want to see how this year goes first — because if it scares the [expletive] out of me, I don’t know if I’m going to want to do it again. But I don’t know. We’ll see. Really, I’ve just got to kind of evaluate how the first year goes, I think they have the second year lined up, probably, if I wanted to do it. But we’ll see.”

Larson will have the option to run the 2025 Indianapolis 500, but it’s a time-consuming and treacherous event. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will have a better idea after his time in Indianapolis and Charlotte is over. Either way, it will be very cool to watch Larson attempt one of racing’s biggest feats, as the possibility of this happening again is uncertain.

Marcus Ericsson suffers big crash during 2024 Indianapolis 500 practice

Marcus Ericsson suffered a big crash during 2024 Indianapolis 500 practice on Thursday. Watch Ericsson’s wreck from third practice!

The NTT IndyCar Series completed two days of 2024 Indianapolis 500 practice sessions without an incident; however, that ended quickly on Thursday. Chip Ganassi Racing driver Linus Lundqvist backed into the wall exiting Turn 2 and destroyed the back end. Later in the session, Indianapolis Motor Speedway claimed another wreck.

Andretti Global driver [autotag]Marcus Ericsson[/autotag] touched the curb in Turn 4 and shot up the race track. The No. 28 car spun to the other side and slammed the wall. Then, Ericsson hit the inside wall before making contact with the covered barrels at the beginning of pit road. Fortunately, the driver of the No. 28 car got out under his own power,

Like Lundqvist, Ericsson was seen and released by the infield care center, so he should be ready moving forward. The racing at Indianapolis is dangerous, as seen on Thursday. Both a rookie and Indianapolis 500-winning driver were involved in an accident. They won’t be the last to wreck during the two weeks in Indianapolis, as the race track has a history of razor thin margins.

Kyle Larson shows off his stunning new helmet for his first Indy 500 attempt

This is so cool.

Kyle Larson is preparing for a very busy race day over Memorial Day Weekend, and regardless of how he does, he’ll be doing it in style.

Larson, a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver for Hendrick Motorsports, will attempt his first Indianapolis 500 behind the wheel of the No. 17 Chevrolet for Arrow McLaren and Hendrick, assuming he successfully qualifies for the race. And it’s not just his first Indy 500; it’ll be his first IndyCar Series race in general.

And after his first Indy 500, he’ll head down to Charlotte Motor Speedway and compete in NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600, aiming for a total of 1,100 miles of racing in a single day. So yeah, busy weekend.

Wednesday, the 31-year-old driver and 2021 NASCAR champ revealed the special helmet he’ll wear for the Indy 500 — and, presumably, Indy 500 events, like practice and qualifying. It’s a clear tribute to the iconic race, Yard of Bricks included, and Indianapolis as a whole.

With the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, Larson is aiming to become the fifth driver to do what’s known as “The Memorial Day Double.” Drivers John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon and Kurt Busch have all competed in The Double, but Stewart is the only one to complete all 1,100 miles.

Linus Lundqvist suffers first crash of 2024 Indianapolis 500 practice

Linus Lundqvist has suffered the first crash during practices for the 2024 Indianapolis 500. Watch Lundqvist’s accident from Thursday.

The NTT IndyCar Series completed two practice sessions for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 with no accidents, but that changed on Thursday morning. During the third practice session of the week, Chip Ganassi Racing driver [autotag]Linus Lundqvist[/autotag] became the first driver to wreck after his No. 8 car got loose, exiting Turn 2.

Lundqvist backed into the wall behind two Arrow McLaren drivers and descended the race track into the grass. The back of the No. 8 car was destroyed, but thankfully, the Chip Ganassi Racing driver got out under his own power. Lundqvist was later seen and released by the infield care center, so he should be good to go moving forward.

Lundqvist is the first but likely not the last to wreck during practice, qualifying, or the actual Indianapolis 500. The 2.5-mile track is treacherous, especially at 230 miles per hour. The Indianapolis 500 is a nerve-wracking competition, but one that provides drama and excitement like no other sporting event in 2024.

Kyle Larson reveals big plans if 2024 Indianapolis 500 is rain delayed

Kyle Larson reveals his big plans if the 2024 Indianapolis 500 is rain delayed. Would Larson stay for the Indy 500 or run the Coca-Cola 600?

[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] arrived at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first practice session of the 2024 Indianapolis 500, but it only lasted 23 minutes. The skies opened up, ending on-track action in Indianapolis. The postponed practice session has created a big question: What would Larson do if the Indianapolis 500 suffers a rain delay on May 26?

Through a press release from Team Chevy, Larson answered the question of whether the Indianapolis 500 or Coca-Cola 600 is his priority. NASCAR fans who want to see Larson run 600 miles will like his answer.

“Yeah, hopefully that doesn’t arise,” Larson said. “But I’m not sure who the one is to make that call. I’m sure there’s a window of time that when it gets to a certain point I have to leave because the Coca-Cola 600 is the priority that weekend and chasing another NASCAR Cup Series championship is the priority.”

“Yeah, I just hope that doesn’t come about (laughs). Tony Kanaan is there for reserve, if something like that does happen, to fill in for the [Indianapolis 500]. But yeah, just pray that doesn’t happen.”

Larson knows that NASCAR and the Coca-Cola 600 are his main priorities, so he would leave the Indianapolis 500 for Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion has the option to run the 2025 Indianapolis 500, so this wouldn’t be his only opportunity. Hopefully, the rain in Indianapolis is getting out of the way for May 26, as Larson attempts “The Double.”
