Tigers at Indians: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Michael Fulmer vs. RHP Adam Plutko

Fulmer has yet to factor into a decision in three starts this season, turning in a 7.56 ERA with a 2.04 WHIP across 8 1/3 innings with five home runs allowed.

  • Fulmer coughed up three earned runs, five hits and two walks with two homers in just 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision in last Sunday’s outing against the Indians at Comerica Park.
  • Fulmer hasn’t made it past the third inning in any of his three starts this season.

Plutko has posted a 1-1 record with a 3.95 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with eight strikeouts and just one walk allowed across 13 2/3 innings over three starts and four appearances.

  • Plutko allowed three earned runs, six hits and no walks with a strikeout in 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision in Detroit last time out on Sunday opposite Fulmer.
  • Plutko posted a 3-0 record, 3.91 ERA and .226 opponent batting average over 23 innings across four starts vs. Detroit in 2019.

Prediction

Indians 6, Tigers 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Indians (-182) have won 20 consecutive games against the Tigers (+165), including a three-game sweep in Detroit last weekend. The Tribe average just 3.88 runs per game, ranking 27th in the majors, but they piled up 21 runs in the three-game sweep against the Tigers. Normally betting more than -170 is not my thing, but roll with Cleveland until Detroit can snap their funk against the Indians.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Cleveland will net a $5.49 profit if it wins, while a winning $10 wager on Detroit will return a profit of $16.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The INDIANS -1.5 (+100) are a good bet, as not only have they won 20 straight in the series, but they have topped the Tigers (+1.5, -121) by two or more runs in 14 of the previous 15 battles.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 9.5 (-110) is the play, mainly because of the Indians. Cleveland ranks 30th in batting average, at .201, and 29th in OPS at .636. On the mound, the Indians rank first in ERA (2.50), WHIP (0.99) and quality starts (18). It’s a tremendous recipe for plenty of under results.

Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Cleveland Indians (11-9) continue their series against the Detroit Tigers (9-8) Saturday at Comerica Park with a 6:10 p.m. ET first pitch. We analyze the Indians-Tigers MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Indians at Tigers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Shane Bieber vs. RHP Spencer Turnbull

Bieber has been nearly unhittable, going 3-0 with a 1.63 ERA and 0.76 WHIP across 27 2/3 innings over four starts while leading the American League with 43 strikeouts.

  • Bieber picked up a no-decision last time out, a 5-4 Cleveland victory in Chicago against the White Sox in 10 innings. However, the Indians are a sparkling 4-0 in his four outings so far, including 3-0 vs. AL Central foes.
  • Bieber has allowed five or fewer hits and three or fewer runs in each of his outings while going at least six innings, quality starts in all four appearances.

Turnbull has been a godsend for the Tigers this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 18 innings in his three outings.

  • Oddly enough, this will be Turnbull’s first appearance of the season against a divisional opponent. In fact, it’s his first start against an AL team in 2020.
  • A big reason for Turnbull’s success is his ability to keep the ball in the park. He has yet to allow a home run this season.

Prediction

Indians 5, Tigers 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Indians (-176) are rather moderate favorites, and there is a little risk facing arguably the best pitcher to date for the Tigers (+155). While the Indians won the series opener 10-5, and they’re 46-20 in the past 66 inside the division, they’re also just 6-14 in the previous 20 on the road against teams with a winning overall mark. You’ll actually find some better value betting the run line rather than the high juice on the moneyline.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Cleveland will net a $5.68 profit if it wins, while a winning $10 wager on Detroit will return a profit of $15.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The INDIANS -1.5 (-106) have struggled against winning teams, but they have dominated in recent seasons against the Tigers (+1.5, -115). Cleveland is 21-6 in the past 27 trips to Comerica, and an amazing 43-8 in the previous 51 meetings overall. You’ll have to eat quite a bit of chalk on the moneyline, but Cleveland has won seven of their past eight by two or more runs. Minimize your risk betting the run line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 7.5 (-110) is worth a look here as Bieber and Turnbull have been two of the better pitchers in the AL Central, if not the AL. Hits will be few and runs will be at a premium in this twilight battle.
