Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

The Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons meet Wednesday to open their 2024-25 NBA seasons. Tip-off from Little Caesars Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Pacers vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Indiana won 4-0 in 2023-24

The Pacers excelled offensively last season, leading the NBA in points per game (PPG) and field goal percentage, and finishing 2nd in offensive efficiency. PG Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 20.1 PPG and a league-best 10.9 APG, while mid-season addition PF Pascal Siakam contributed 21.3 PPG and 7.8 RPG. The return of SG Bennedict Mathurin, a strong defender and scorer, will be crucial. However, the Pacers struggled defensively, ranking 24th in defensive efficiency, which they’ll need to improve for a deeper playoff run.

The Pistons are aiming for a fresh start after a disappointing season, parting ways with GM Troy Weaver and coach Monty Williams. They’ve hired J.B. Bickerstaff, who led the Cavaliers to back-to-back playoff appearances. Key players include PG Cade Cunningham (22.7 PPG, 7.5 APG) and C Jalen Duren, a dominant force in the paint. Detroit added veteran F Tobias Harris, SF Tim Hardaway Jr., and SG Malik Beasley to bolster their young core.

Pacers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 122, Pistons 115

Moneyline

PASS.

While Indiana (-200) is expected to be among the better teams this season and should win their season opener, the odds on the moneyline don’t offer enough value. The Pistons, though in a rebuild, have a promising young core and a few experienced veterans who could make the game competitive. A better play is the Pacers against the spread for a more favorable return.

Against the spread

BET PACERS -4.5 (-110).

While Detroit is expected to improve on last season’s 14 wins, their season opener looks tough. With a new coach and a revamped roster, the Pistons may need time to adjust. Meanwhile, the Pacers, who won and covered all 4 matchups last season, return a similar roster that reached the Eastern Conference Finals. With Haliburton and Siakam leading the way, their depth and experience should secure a road win.

Over/Under

BET OVER 233.5 (-115).

The Pistons will be better than last season, but they will need time to gel, which could lead to defensive lapses. Indiana’s depth and experience should result in plenty of scoring opportunities, making the Over a solid play.

Pacers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 113, Pistons 107

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on the Pacers (-450) to beat the Pistons, who have lost 3 straight games.

Against the spread

LEAN PISTONS +9.5 (-110).

The Pacers are just 4-5 ATS in their last 9 games and have failed to cover in 2 of their last 3, both as favorites. Haliburton has been in a shooting slump, most recently going 1-of-9 from beyond the arc, and the team has struggled to score as a whole.

The Pistons have covered in 3 of their last 5 games and have held opponents to 108 or fewer points in 4 of their last 5. They are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 home games.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 235.5 (-110).

Indiana has hit the Under in 8 of its last 10 games, including 5 of its last 6. It has held opponents to 111 or fewer points in 4 of its last 5 games and scored 111 or fewer in 5 of its last 9.

Detroit has hit the Under in 7 of its last 10 games, including each of its last 5. It has scored 101 or fewer points in 3 straight games and 114 or fewer in 8 of its last 10.

Pacers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Pistons 118, Pacers 111

Moneyline

The Pacers are just 12-21 on the road and this may be the Pistons’ last chance at a home win as their final 5 games in Detroit are against playoff teams.

Despite Detroit’s record they do have a solid 3-point defense, ranking 12th in opponent 3s attempted and made. In Saturday’s game they held Indiana to just 25.7% beyond the arc.

The Pistons lead the league in free throw attempts and are 3rd in free throws made, but on Saturday the Pacers had 34 shots, 7 more than the Pistons. And Detroit shot just 66.7% from the line. Expect this number to reverse on Monday.

LEAN PISTONS (+135).

Against the spread

Indiana has covered just once in the last 5 road games against a team with a losing home record. But for those worried about betting on a 15-53 Pistons squad to win straight up, you can always take the points.

BET PISTONS +3.5 (-110).

Over/Under

On 1 day of rest both teams trend towards the Under. The Pistons are 10-4 in their last 14 games and the Pacers have gone Under in 6 of their last 8 games on 1 day rest.

LEAN UNDER 226.5 (-112)

Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Indiana Pacers (22-42) visit Little Caesars Arena Friday to take on the Detroit Pistons (16-47). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pacers vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Pistons have been a covering machine as of late. They’ve covered 6 straight spreads yet are 6-4 against the spread (ATS) over their last 10.

Detroit most recently covered as an 8-point road underdog when it won 108-106 at the Toronto Raptors Thursday. Detroit is led by F Jerami Grant who is averaging 19.3 points per game.

The Pacers are coming off a two-game series at the Orlando Magic that they split 1-1. The Pacers are 4-6 ATS over their last 10 games yet have covered four of their last six outings.

Indiana is led by trade-deadline addition G Buddy Hield, who is averaging 20.6 points per game as a Pacer.

Pacers at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pistons 118, Pacers 115

Money line

SPRINKLE on the PISTONS (+120).

The Pacers are 1-1 on the road since the All-Star break. They’ve been far worse on the road this season where they’re 7-24 (compared to 15-18 at home). The Pistons are 9-21 at home compared to 7-26 on the road.

The Pistons are 4-2 over their last six games. Detroit has started playing at a high level, and I like the Pistons to win outright against the Pacers.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET on the PISTONS +2.5 (-107).

The Pacers have the league’s second-worst ATS record as road favorites at just 2-7 ATS. The Pistons are 14-12 ATS as a home underdog.

The big difference for Detroit has been No. 1 overall pick G Cade Cunningham stepping up his play. Cunningham is averaging 20.6 points and 5 assists per game since the All-Star break.

I’ll take the home side getting points in this one.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 227.5 (-108).

This is a weaker play for me considering the inefficiencies both teams have shown this season. However, the pace at which Indiana plays behind Hield and G Tyrese Haliburton has been producing points at a high rate.

The Pacers are 7-3 O/U over their last 10 games and 35-28-1 O/U on the season.

The Pistons are 5-3-2 O/U across their last 10. The trends point to the Over, but it’s certainly not my favorite play as neither team has top-tier scoring threats.

Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Indiana Pacers (6-9) travel to Little Caesars Arena Wednesday to take on the Detroit Pistons (3-10). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pacers vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Pacers will enter this game as strong favorites despite being on the road.

Finally healthy with guards Caris LeVert and Malcolm Brogdon back on the court, the Pacers have won three of their last fives, twice against playoff-caliber teams. With two-time blocks leader big Myles Turner in the paint, they’ll present a tough matchup for the home side.

Detroit is led by its leading scorer F Jerami Grant. No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham has also seen his usage tick up and is expected to have an ever-expanding role offensively.

The Pistons have won two of their last four outings.

Pacers at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 106, Pistons 99

Money line

PASS on the money line.

The Pistons are at home and have played well enough lately to not play the Pacers safely at -260. I don’t hate a sprinkle on the Pistons, but I’d still pass given their offensive inconsistencies.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the PACERS -6.5 (-107) as they’re a quality playoff-caliber team when at full strength.

When it comes to offensive rebounding rate, defensive rebounding rate and turnover rate, both teams are similar with the Pacers being marginally better in each category.

It’s the shooting that’s the concern for me. Indiana ranks 10th in true shooting percentage, a stat that factors in three-point shooting, while Detroit is last in the league.

The Pistons have lost two of their last three games by at least 20 points. Indiana should be able to win by seven or more points Wednesday.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 207.5 (-108) as Detroit is just that bad offensively.

Outside of Grant, who shoots only 41%, the Pistons’ next two top scorers shoot under 40% from the field and under 30% from deep. That’s just not the type of efficiency that allows for teams to consistently go over 100 points.

With the Pacers having Turner and F Domantas Sabonis on the inside, the Pistons should limit their rebounding. With veteran Olynyk out for Detroit, this has all the makings of a low-scoring game.

Both teams also rank in the bottom half of the league in pace.
