How many former Penn State football players are still in the transfer portal?

The transfer portal cycle closed with these former Penn State football players still officially in the transfer portal.

The start of a new college football season is beginning to creep up on us already with the countdown to kickoff for Penn State recently entering double digits. Penn State has added a number of key players to the roster out of the transfer portal since the close of the 2023 season, and it has seen its share of players choose to leave the program through the portal. Some are still mulling their future plans while sitting in the transfer portal as the summer season is ushered in over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

As of now, there are three players from Penn State’s roster last season sitting in the transfer portal without a commitment for another program officially on the board. Those players are offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba and defensive linemen Davon Townley and Jake Wilson. With the transfer portal cycle now closed, these four players will have to wait until after the 2024 season to continue their college football careers. Of course, it is possible these players do have commitments made that have not surfaced yet for one reason or another.

Israel-Achumba announced he entered the transfer portal in early May and confirmed he will have two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer from Penn State.

It is important to remember that players can still withdraw their names from the transfer portal if they choose to remain at their current school. In the case of Davon Townley, that is exactly what he did a year ago. Townley explored his options in the transfer portal a year ago before ultimately deciding to remain at Penn State. But now that he has entered the portal a second time, it seems unlikely he will make the same decision again.

Wilson’s social media feed has only mentioned an offer from Akron, where former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is the head coach.

Former Penn State offensive lineman Ibrahim Traore still shows up as a player in the transfer portal according to a couple of the major recruiting sites. But a recent report from Daily Collegian says Traore has committed to Toledo.

Penn State OL Ibrahim Traore enters transfer portal

Penn State OL Ibrahim Traore says he has entered the NCAA transfer portal, and he has already received at least one offer.

Penn State knew going into the offseason that beefing up the offensive line was going to be important. The Nittany Lions are losing two starters to the NFL with the departure of Olu Fashanu and Caedan Wallace. And now, another offensive lineman has announced he is pursuing another opportunity to continue his football career elsewhere.

On Wednesday, offensive lineman [autotag]Ibrahim Traore[/autotag] announced in a post on his social media account that he has entered the transfer portal.

“Extremely grateful for every opportunity and experience,” Traore said on his X (formerly known as Twitter, account. “I have officially entered the NCAA transfer portal as a grad transfer with 3 years of eligibility.”

Traore joined the Penn State program in the Class of 2020 and did not see the field until the 2023 season, his redshirt junior season. Traore says he has 3 years of eligibility at his disposal, although he spent four seasons with the Penn State football program. He gains an extra year of eligibility with a redshirt season and another with the NCAA exemption for all student-athletes participating in college sports during the 2020 season.

Traore has already received at least one offer since entering the transfer portal. Traore announced he received an offer from Kent State.

Penn State has already seen three players commit to other programs after entering the transfer portal since the end of the 2023 season. Traore is the third Nittany Lion currently in the transfer portal weighing his options. Penn State has added four players to the roster by way of the transfer portal, including for the offensive line; former Wisconsin offensive lineman Nolan Rucci committed to Penn State.

Penn State player availability report for Rutgers released

Penn State has officially ruled out wide receiver Harrison Wallace III vs. Rutgers.

As expected, Penn State will be in pretty good shape when it comes to its player availability for the regular season home finale on Saturday afternoon. Penn State will only be missing one key player that wasn’t already accounted for this season, and head coach James Franklin already confirmed that news earlier in the week.

Wide receiver [autotag]Harrison Wallace III[/autotag] was officially ruled out of action on Saturday morning according to the Big Ten-mandated player availability report for the Nittany Lions. Wallace was injured in late October against Indiana and has not been on the field since that point in time. What to expect from former three-star offensive lineman Ibrahim Traore for Penn State in 2023.

Going into the 2023 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster. Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Next up is a look at a potential deep reserve on the offensive line for the 2023 season, Ibrahim Traore. Out of the Bronx, Traore has been a bit of a project for the Nittany Lions since his arrival with the program, and he should be counted on to provide solid depth on the offensive line this fall once again. Here is a snapshot look at Traore entering the 2023 college football season.

2022 Penn State football: Nittany Lions’ offensive line preview

Here’s a look at the offensive line depth for Penn State heading into the 2022 season.

Penn State has lost a couple of more veteran players on the offensive line leaving them with a more young and promising group. With just three seniors listed on the roster, a lot of young talent is going to be asked to grow up very quickly.

[autotag]Olumuyiwa Fashanu,[/autotag] who will be protecting the blindside of [autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag], has a chance to become a keystone on this offensive line. The Maryland native has the size and speed at the tackle spot to really turn into something special this coming season.

Outside of Fashanu, there are a bunch of guys looking to earn their keep. Getting to know the vast depth of names on that young line may seem daunting but this list should help sort things out. A lot of these faces are going to be ones fans will see for the next two to three years.
