One of Clemson’s top offensive lineman targets in the class of 2023 dropped his top-10 schools late Sunday night via social media.

Vandegrift High School (Austin, TX.) four-star Ian Reed is down to Clemson, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Reed — a 6-foot-6, 305-pound junior — earned an offer from Clemson when he was on campus for the program’s Orange & White Spring Game on April 9.

“The trip was amazing and everything I’d imagined it would be,” Reed told The Clemson Insider after the visit. “Clemson is a special place and the visit was great.”

Reed wasn’t entirely sure that Clemson would offer him during his campus visit. In fact, he viewed it as a 50/50 chance of happening. With that being said, what does it mean for Reed to ultimately earn an offer from the Tigers?

“Getting an offer from Clemson is just a dream of mine,” he said. “After watching them when I was growing up a bit, getting an offer from Clemson is just amazing. I was super happy. It was just incredible.”

Now with an offer in hand, Reed indicated that Clemson is definitely up there in his recruitment and that the Tigers are probably a top-three school for him, coming off of the visit.

Reed told us that he plans on taking on making his way back to Clemson for an official visit either in early June or late July.

Clemson lined up with all of Vandegrift High School’s (Austin, TX.) four-star offensive lineman Ian Reed’s values and checked all his boxes during his first-ever visit to campus.

Reed — a 6-foot-6, 305-pound junior — earned an offer from Clemson this past weekend, which he announced via Twitter just prior to kickoff at the Orange & White Spring Game at Memorial Stadium.

“The trip was amazing and everything I’d imagined it would be,” Reed told The Clemson Insider Sunday night. “Clemson is a special place and the visit was great.”

Before Saturday’s spring game, he sat down with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and offensive line coach Thomas Austin.

“I love Coach Swinney,” Reed said. “He’s a great guy, a great influencer and he has high regard for his faith and so does Coach Austin. They just love what they do and it was awesome that I got to talk with them for 30 minutes.”

According to Reed, Clemson’s coaches told him that they look like what they see in him as a person, his high regard for academics and just the upside he has as a football player. Clemson is also a fan of his unique skillset.

Now with an offer in hand, Reed indicated that Clemson is definitely up there in his recruitment and that the Tigers are probably a top-three school for him, coming off this past weekend’s visit.

Even though it was his first time in Tiger Town, Reed felt like a priority the minute he set foot on campus.

“It was awesome,” he said. “Just me being valued by a highly-prestigious program like Clemson is just amazing and the opportunity to come to play for them has just been an awesome dream.”

Reed told us that he plans on taking on making his way back to Clemson for an official visit either in early June or late July. He also indicated that Austin plans on stopping by Vandegrift High School sometime this spring for one of Reed’s spring practices.

A top offensive line prospect from the Lone Star State picked up an offer from Clemson during his visit Saturday for the Orange & White Spring Game.

Vandegrift High School (Austin, Texas) four-star Ian Reed announced the offer from the Tigers via Twitter shortly before the spring game’s 1 p.m. kickoff at Death Valley.

Reed (6-6, 310) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 20 offensive tackle and No. 211 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

Reed spoke with The Clemson Insider last month and said he had Clemson on his “recruiting wish list.”

“Clemson’s up there in my recruiting wish list and my college wish list too,” Reed said. “I’ve been watching Clemson before Dabo (Swinney) came in and started winning all those National Championships. I just really like how they’ve played and I really like how their culture’s set up.”

Alabama offers 2023 4-star OT from Texas

Alabama extends an offer to highly sought-after 4-star OL out of Texas.

Alabama continues to seek out some of the top prospects from the 2023 recruiting class to hopefully put together another national championship-worthy team.

Currently, the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class does not have a commitment from an offensive linemen, but only two verbal commitments from defensive backs.

Today, Alabama extended an offer to 2023 four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Ian Reed[/autotag] out of Austin, Texas.

Reed is the most recent lineman to be offered a scholarship spot by Alabama. Beside Reed, there are eight other prospects currently holding offers from the Crimson Tide.

This is Reed’s fifth offer from an SEC program, but he is also beginning to draw interest from other top programs across numerous big-time conferences, as well.

His size alone makes him a unique player. Reed will likely be seeing a lot more offers come his way in the near future.

4-star Texas OL has Clemson on his ‘wish list’, excited for upcoming visit

Last week, Vandegrift High School (Austin, TX.) four-star offensive lineman Ian Reed announced that he would be on campus from April 8-to 9 for an unofficial visit and Clemson’s spring game.

Reed — a 6-foot-6, 305-pound junior — spoke with The Clemson Insider earlier this week about his upcoming trip to Clemson and what he’s been hearing from the Tigers’ coaching staff as of late.

“They contacted me and all that,” Reed said. “They are very interested in me coming up there. Clemson’s been on my radar for a while, so, of course, why not? And, I’m really excited to go up there. It all came together.”

Reed told us that he’s looking forward to seeing the spring game at Clemson, the culture, how the coaches teach and what their philosophy is.

“I’m just really excited to meet the staff and I’m very excited to see Clemson and their athletes play,” he said.

Both Robbie Caldwell, who now serves as Clemson’s director of high school relations, and offensive line coach Thomas Austin reached out to Reed.

“It was their first time reaching out a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been talking to them here and there,” Reed said. “We’re just getting to know each other and talking about what they like about me and all that. They really want me to come up there and experience Clemson.”

According to Reed, Clemson likes that he’s very versatile — he can play anywhere inside or out, including both guard positions and tackle positions. Additionally, they think that Reed has “pretty great length” and “really great athleticism,” he said. They also like his intelligence for the game and how he can put people in the dirt.

Reed describes himself as athletic with quick feet. He’s got a good knowledge of the game and he has a mauler mentality. He just likes getting after it and loves to compete.

He previously mentioned that Clemson’s been on his radar for a while now, so the big-time offensive lineman out of the Lone Star State was pretty happy when the Tigers finally reached out.

“Clemson’s up there in my recruiting wish list and my college wish list too,” Reed said. “I’ve been watching Clemson before Dabo (Swinney) came in and started winning all those National Championships. I just really like how they’ve played and I really like how their culture’s set up.”

Reed doesn’t have a previous connection to the program. One day, he just turned on the TV and watched Clemson play. The rest is history and he’s followed the program closely ever since.

“I watched them when Coach Austin played in 2008 and 2010,” Reed said. “I told him that and they were like, ‘That’s awesome!’ I’m really excited and looking forward to meeting him.”

Reed mentions schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Michigan State and Ohio State as the schools that are currently standing out in his recruitment, in addition to Clemson.

He visited Texas A&M this past Monday, he’ll be visiting Texas this Saturday and two weeks from now, Reed will obviously be at Clemson and Ohio State. Previously, he visited Texas in January and TCU in December 2021.
