Ian Machado Garry predicts highlight-reel stoppage, ‘the fall of Daniel Rodriguez’ at UFC on ABC 4

Ian Machado Garry says he’s going to change Daniel Rodriguez’s career at UFC on ABC 4 in Charlotte – and not in a good way.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] thinks there’s something big in store for him Saturday at UFC on ABC 4.

The welterweight prospect takes on veteran Daniel Rodriguez on the main card at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. The main card airs on ABC following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

Garry (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is confident he will badly beat Rodriguez (17-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC), enough to add another stoppage to his unbeaten record and have him be the biggest talking point of the weekend.

“This is the fall of Daniel Rodriguez,” Garry told reporters at UFC on ABC 4 media day. “When you lose the way you’re going to lose to me, you don’t come back from that. I’m going to piece him up in every which way, and I’m going to make him hate that he was in there.”

The 25-year-old also thinks a win over Rodriguez will put him into the UFC’s official welterweight rankings.

“I will do everything in my power to steal the show, and I believe that everyone will be talking about the fact that I earned the top 15 ranking in the world,” Garry said. “This is me earning and achieving such a big achievement in my life, which is being ranked (top) 15 in the world. … It’s exciting. I have a whole road ahead of me to success and that world title, so this is the start of the next journey.”

In terms of the actual task at hand, Garry sees himself putting away Rodriguez. He’s confident Rodriguez doesn’t have the skills to make it to the final bell.

“I think I’m going to get him out of there by the end of the second round,” Garry said. “I believe that based on just cardio and speed. I’m just going to have too much to offer, and I’m going to be too quick for him, and he’s going to get lost and fumble in the speed. He’s going to start making errors, overreach, (and) make wrong steps because he’s going to get desperate.”

Ian Machado Garry promises future UFC Ireland headliner: ‘Give me Jorge Masvidal in Dublin’

Ian Machado Garry vows to bring the UFC back to Ireland and he wants one of the sport’s biggest stars as his dance partner.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] vows to bring the UFC back to Ireland, and he wants one of the sport’s biggest stars as his dance partner.

Unbeaten Garry (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is on the rise after four octagon wins, most recently a knockout of Song Kenan at UFC 285. “The Future” already has his next assignment set when he takes on Daniel Rodriguez on May 13.

Garry has mapped out a plan to bring the UFC back to Dublin and would love to throw down with [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC), who faces his training partner Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 on April 8.

“I know what’s happening,” Garry said in an interview on “The Craic with Peter Carroll.” “You heard me say it to Dana (White) in the UK, right, when I was there. I said we need to get them back to Dublin. The Irish have been starved of a UFC return and I’m going to bring the UFC back, I’m going to make it happen. I’m going to be the headline fight.

“I promise you, it’s coming. And it’ll be against someone huge. I’ll fight on the Conor (McGregor) card, and I’ll fight a guy just outside that top 15 that’s exciting, and then I’ll fight one of the guys. Like, if Burns beats Masvidal, give me Masvidal in Dublin. Give me him. Why not? Bring him to Ireland and see if he does it against me (what he did to Darren Till). I’m far too fast for him.”

Garry acknowledges that Rodriguez (17-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) is a big step up in competition on paper, but the confident 25-year-old painted the exact scenario he plans on delivering.

“This is the first fight in a while where I get to study, like genuinely allow my brain to do what it f*cking does, which is just be so intelligent,” Garry said. “This is why my fight IQ is so much greater than everybody else. My brain will just tick and I’ve already got the map in my head.

“I can tell you how I’m going to knock him out. Right high kick and anything else, I didn’t mean. If I knock him out with anything else, I didn’t mean it. That’s the only shot I want. That’s the knockout I want, right high kick. I want him stiff on his back.”

Rising UFC welterweight Ian Machado Garry gets next assignment, faces Daniel Rodriguez on May 13

Undefeated welterweight Ian Machado Garry gets a step up in competition this May when he takes on Daniel Rodriguez.

Undefeated welterweight [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] is set for his next test, and it’s arguably his toughest to date.

On May 13, Garry (11-0 MMA, 4-0) will return to the cage just over two months after his previous appearance at UFC 285, to take on [autotag]Daniel Rodriguez[/autotag] in a welterweight clash. MMA Junkie confirmed the booking following an initial report from ESPN Deportes.

The event does not yet have a confirmed venue or location.

Garry, 25, has yet to experience defeat in his pro career. The former Cage Warriors welterweight champion has passed his first four challenges in the UFC, having defeated Jordan Williams, Darian Weeks, Gabe Green, and most recently, Kenan Song.

The 36-year-old Rodriguez (17-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) will be a different challenge, though. Depsite coming off a submission loss to Neil Magny in November, Rodriguez has proven to be one of the toughest fights in the division. Prior to his recent setback, he won four straight, with wins over Mike Perry, Preston Parsons, Kevin Lee, and Li Jingliang.

With the addition, the lineup for the UFC Fight Night event on May 13 includes:

  • Anthony Smith vs. Johnny walker
  • Jailton Almeida vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
  • Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill
  • Ian Machado Garry vs. Daniel Rodriguez

UFC 285 video: Ian Machado Garry swarms Song Kenan for late finish, celebrates Conor McGregor-style

Following his win at UFC 285, Ian Machado Garry paid tribute to Conor McGregor when he broken out the “billi strut” celebration.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] still has a zero in the loss column.

Saturday at UFC 285, Garry (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) added another win to his record when he defeated [autotag]Song Kenan[/autotag] (19-7 MMA, 3-4 UFC) by TKO at 4:22 of Round 3. The middleweight bout was part of the preliminary card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garry’s win did not come without adversity. He was dropped by a clean left hook in Round 1 but survived Kenan’s follow-up swarm. Rounds 2 and 3 were clinical as Garry mounted offense until Kenan could no longer take it.

Following the TKO stoppage, Garry paid tribute to his fellow Irishman Conor McGregor when he broke out the “billi strut” celebration. McGregor tipped his cap to Garry shortly thereafter on Twitter.
