[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] will get a big step up in competition at UFC 292 when he takes on welterweight contender [autotag]Geoff Neal[/autotag].

Garry (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) will attempt to put a signature win on his undefeated resume in a matchup with Neal (15-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) on the Aug. 19 event, which takes place at TD Garden in Boston. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with multiple people close to the situation following an initial report from RTE. The people requested anonymity because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Garry, 25, is coming off a first-round TKO of Daniel Rodriguez at UFC on ABC 4 in May. He’s earned three of his five UFC victories by knockout and is already 2-0 inside the octagon this year.

Neal, 32, will attempt to rebound from a submission loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov in the Fight of the Night at UFC 285 in March. He missed weight for the first time in his career prior to the bout, which ended a run of back-to-back wins over Vicente Luque and Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Joaquin Buckley wants to knock off Kill Cliff FC welterweights one by one: They’re ‘supposed to be the scary boogeymen’

UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley doesn’t have a next opponent in mind. He has an entire team he wants to fight.

UFC fighter [autotag]Joaquin Buckley[/autotag] doesn’t have a next opponent in mind. He has an entire team.

Buckley (16-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) successfully returned to welterweight when he knocked out Andre Fialho with a head kick this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 224.

Fialho marked the second Kill Cliff FC fighter that Buckley has finished, the first one being his all-time highlight spinning back kick knockout of Impa Kasanganay in October 2020.

Now Buckley is going after the entire team’s stable of 170 pounders.

“Who I really want, I want a team of guys,” Buckley said on the “Believe You Me” podcast. “So, I don’t want to just pick individuals, individuals, individuals. I want to pick a team and, like Dominick Cruz, build my motherf*cking name off of that team. I’m calling out the right team because they’re dangerous, they’re lethal.

“So, me calling them out, I’m dead-ass about it, but y’all got to see I really want the potential to build my experiences with these guys. I think they got holes in their game, but I know they’re good too, though, because the guys from this team could potentially knock me out, embarrass me, talk sh*t, but I don’t care about that. I’ve been there before.”

Buckley’s hit list includes current top contenders, as well as unbeaten prospects [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and [autotag]Shavkat Rakhmonov[/autotag] (17-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC).

“Vicente Luque, Ian Garry, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Kevin Lee now, and then Gilbert Burns on top,” Buckley said. “I want all those guys. It’s not some disrespectful sh*t. It’s just business. Plus, they got all the 170 motherf*ckers. These are the dudes that are supposed to be the scary boogeymen.

“Definitely Ian Garry and Shavkat. They’re undefeated. They never tasted defeat before. If y’all so confident in y’all abilities, I should be easy work. Plus, I’m a good name too. I’m the dude with the craziest highlight knockout. That’s good money.”

Joe Rogan has high hopes for undefeated Ian Machado Garry: ‘Whatever ‘it’ is, he’s got it’

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has seen thousands of fighters come and go over the years, and he sees undefeated Irishman Ian Garry as special.

Longtime UFC commentator [autotag]Joe Rogan[/autotag] has seen thousands of fighters come and go from the promotion over the years. So when he identifies someone as a unique entity, it should mean a lot.

That’s how Rogan feels about undefeated rising star [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag], who is quickly gaining traction as a welterweight on the rise after starting his octagon tenure with five consecutive wins.

Garry (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) was criticized by many early in his UFC tenure as an attempted copycat of fellow Irishman Conor McGregor. His work inside the cage has started to generation attention of his own, though, especially after Garry scored a first-round TKO of Daniel Rodriguez at UFC on ABC 4 this month.

Rogan wasn’t on commentary for Garry’s triumphant effort against Rodriguez, but he did make sure to watch it. And from everything he’s seen out of Garry thus far, he thinks the promotion has something special on its hands.

“(He’s) undefeated, so confident and so intelligent,” Rogan said on a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast with guest Bas Rutten. “Beating Daniel Rodriguez like that in the last fight, and being the first guy to stop Rodriguez (with strikes) – that’s a big deal. He’s got it. Whatever ‘it’ is, he’s got it. He’s on his way up.”

Garry also was praised by UFC president Dana White in the aftermath of his most recent performance. It’s hard to deny the 25-year-old has plenty of potential, and Garry told MMA Junkie in a recent interview he intends to maximize his position and continue to make waves.

“I am what I say I am,” Garry said. “I know what I’m capable of, and it’s time that the organization and the people who are doubting me see it, too. … Dana should be excited for my potential because it’s another superstar in the making.”

Ian Machado Garry: UFC president Dana White sees me as ‘superstar in the making’

Ian Garry reacts to UFC president Dana White’s praise and wants Neil Magny because he “can separate the contenders from pretenders.”

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] thinks this past weekend’s finish of Daniel Rodriguez at UFC on ABC 4 marked a turning point in public opinion.

Garry (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) needed less than one round to become the first in MMA history to stop Rodriguez (17-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) with strikes, landing a big head kick that spelled the beginning of the end in the welterweight bout, which took place at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

The result kept the Irishman’s undefeated record in tact, and marked the defining performance of his career thus far. Due to Garry’s outspoken and brash demeanor, there’s a segment of fans rooting for his demise. He’s aware, and is thrilled to hush the naysays for the time being.

If anybody is going to be sitting here and criticizing me now, then they’re just a hater,” Garry told MMA Junkie on Monday. “Because there is absolutely nothing that anyone could say to make any sense right now about speaking negatively. I just went in and knocked out a guy who has never been knocked out. I’ve done it with absolute ease. Not only did I did it with absolute ease, I did it with the guy who was ranked No. 15 in the world. All you can do it sit and say, ‘Wow, this kid is impressive.’ That’s it. Anything else, you’re just a hater.”

Garry caught the praise of several high-impact players in the aftermath of his Performance of the Night winning effort. His mentor and countryman Conor McGregor praised him on social media, and UFC president Dana White was bullish on the 25-year-old, as well.

“I am what I say I am,” Garry said. “I know what I’m capable of and it’s time that the organization and the people who are doubting me see it, too. … Dana should be excited for my potential, because it’s another superstar in the making.”

Immediately following his win, Garry called out Neil Magny for his next fight. Magny (27-10 MMA, 20-9 UFC) has the most wins in UFC welterweight history and has fought almost all the biggest names in the division during his more than 10-year stint with the company.

Magny is current scheduled to fight Phil Rowe at UFC Fight Night on June 24, but Garry wants him after that no matter what. He knows beating Magny will be the statement to the rest of the ranked fighters that he’s looking for.

“He can separate the contenders from the pretenders,” Garry said. “That is absolutely perfect. That point is absolutely why. We have seen catch people that are on the rise, then we’ve seen him put up against someone like Shavkat, and Shavkat go out there and show, ‘You’re not on my level, get out of my way.’ Magny’s been either in or just below the top 10 since I was a f*cking amateur fighting in Ireland on a card nobody had ever hurt of, and he’s fighting some of the biggest names the sport has ever f*cking seen.

“For me to go in there and absolutely run through him in any way I want to, whether it’s grappling, wrestling or striking – or all combined – no matter where I goes I believe I will out work him.”

Ian Machado Garry calls out ‘perfect opponent’ Neil Magny after UFC on ABC 4 win

Ian Machado Garry explains why he wants Neil Magny next after UFC on ABC 4 win.

[autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] is a man with a plan.

Following his impressive, quick finish at UFC on ABC 4, Garry (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) took the microphone in his in-cage, post-fight interview to call out one of the most seasoned names in the UFC’s welterweight division – Neil Magny.

Garry wants to get his hands on Magny and sees him as the appropriate next step after finishing Daniel Rodriguez on Saturday night.

“Neil Magny is a phenomenal talent that’s been around the game for, Jesus, God knows how long,” Garry said. “He’s been in the top 10, top 15 since I’ve been an amateur. And when you look at the opponents that he’s fought, the people that he’s fought. His last opponents were Gilbert Burns, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Daniel Rodriguez – they are the elite guys. I want to face someone who’s faced that talent. I want to see what he brings. …

“I believe Neil Magny is the perfect opponent for me to go out there and smoke and show the world how good I am.”

[lawrence-related id=2642792]

Garry has yet to score a submission win in his UFC career, but he’s confident he can end that against Magny.

“See, that’s a good one because I believe I can sub him very simply,” Garry said. “Even though he’s longer than me – he’s got like an 80-inch reach, which is ridiculous – I don’t believe he’s going to want to strike with me on the feet. I’m too fast. He’s nowhere near as fast or as accurate as I am on the feet. He’ll want to get in close, maybe take me down and put me on my back, and I look forward to it. So I probably say it will be a submission and I want that.”
