2023 Prospects: Hunter Cleggs’s Recruiting Profile

A look at edge defender Hunter Clegg.

Prior to national signing day, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rate them, as well as what their role could be for Bryan Harsin.

Next up in our series is four-star edge rusher [autotag]Hunter Clegg[/autotag]. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Clegg is universally rated as one of the best players in his home state of Utah.

He is at his best pinning his ears back and beating opposing tackles with his speed and quickness but he also possesses plenty of strength, which should only increase as his frame fills out. He also has a great motor that lets him make extra plays.

With Auburn having just three edge players on the roster, edge is one of Auburn’s most important positions for the 2023 recruiting class. The Tigers likely need to add multiple players at the position in the class. Here is everything you need to know about one of the top in the country.

Auburn makes top 7 for 4-star edge Hunter Clegg

Auburn is in the mix for one of the best players from Utah.

Auburn’s recruiting footprint mostly consists of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The Tigers will also recruit other states in the South but one state Auburn does not normally target is Utah.

That is not the case for the 2023 recruiting class as Auburn and Roc Bellantoni are going after four-star edge [autotag]Hunter Clegg[/autotag] from American Fork, Utah. The interest is paying off as Clegg included Auburn in his top seven schools that he announced Thursday.

Auburn is not the only SEC school to make the cut. LSU also made the list, which is completed by Utah, BYU, USC, Baylor, and Stanford.

The 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Clegg is ranked as the No. 186 overall player and No. 17 edge in the 247Composite recruiting ranking. He is also the No. 3 player in Utah. Clegg possesses the speed and quickness to beat opposing tackles around the edge but he also has the strength to win with power.

Edge is a major need for Auburn in the 2023 recruiting class and Clegg would be a solid addition for the Tigers.

LSU offers 4-star edge rusher out of Utah

The Tigers are pursuing Hunter Clegg, but the home-state Utes are currently considered the favorite.

Hunter Clegg is a 6-foot-4-inch, 235-pound edge rusher from American Fork, Utah. Hunter plays a multitude of positions for the American Fork Cavemen football team. He plays edge rusher, wide receiver, tight end, and offensive tackle. The Cavemen went 7-4 last year and failed to make the playoffs.

Clegg’s recruitment has picked up here recently as he has received offers from Washington, West Virginia, Arizona, and LSU since January. He has a crystal ball projection to go play for the Utah Utes, which would make sense if he wants to play close to home. American Fork is only 33 minutes away from the University of Utah.

Don’t count Brian Kelly out, though. He’s the kind of coach that can go into the heart of Utah and bring a kid back to the boot.
