Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (1-5) visit the Footprint Center to take on the Phoenix Suns (4-1) Sunday. Tip is set for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Suns odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets are coming into this game following a 125-111 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. Houston, after beating the Jazz on Oct. 24, has lost its last 2 games.

It is led by 2nd-year G Jalen Green, who is averaging 20.7 points per game.  Fellow backcourt mate G Kevin Porter Jr. is averaging 20.5 per game.

The Suns will be without their star C Deandre Ayton, which means more will be put on G Devin Booker, who already  is averaging a team-high 29.2 points and shooting 51.5% from the field.

Phoenix has won 3 straight games and is in the 3rd game of a 6-game homestand. It has won the first 2 games: 134-105 over the Golden State Warriors and 124-111 over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Rockets at Suns picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 118, Rockets 111

Moneyline

PASS.

Betting a -850 makes no sense, but the Rockets are without key pieces and shouldn’t stand much of a chance to win outright.

Against the spread

LEAN ROCKETS +12.5 (-105).

The loss of Ayton will give more minutes to C Jock Landale and C Bismack Biyombo. Both are competent, but neither provides the skill set that Ayton does. That should hurt the Suns on both sides of the court.

The Rockets struggle offensively with efficiency and defensively with size and inexperience.

However, they have lost by 12-plus points just twice this season and were able to stay within single digits against the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies, 2 teams that have an 9-4 record combined.

With the Suns down a key offensive piece, the Rockets should be able to keep things within 13.

Over/Under

BET OVER 227.5 (-115).

The Rockets rank 26th in turnover rate and 5th in pace.

They’re going to want to move the ball and do so quickly. They also rank 4th in rebounding rate, and without Ayton, the Suns should lack key size in the paint. Houston struggles defensively as well.

Given how the Rockets should want this game played, expect them to push the pace. Houston is 3-3 O/U this season and was 45-36-1 O/U a season ago.

Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (15-41) are on the road to face the Phoenix Suns (47-10) Wednesday night. It is the Rockets’ second-to-last game before the All-Star break and the Suns’ last game before it. Tip-off is 9 p.m. ET at Footprint Center. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Suns odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Rockets have lost five games in a row and nine of their last 10 contests. They are in last place in the Western Conference. They are 7-26 against teams in the West and have been equally bad at home and on the road. They have eight home wins and seven road wins.

The Suns continue to have the best record in the NBA and sit in first place in the West with a 5.5-game lead. They are playing for the second night in a row after a 103-96 home win over the Los Angeles Clippers. They have won six straight games and 17 of their last 18.

Rockets at Suns odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 124, Rockets 105

Money line

PASS on the money line. The Rockets have been playing too poorly recently, and on the road in general, to make them a smart bet against the best team in the league, even with a big potential payout.

And it doesn’t make any sense to bet 20 times what your payout could be on the Suns.

Against the spread

The Rockets have failed to cover the spread in five straight games. They have covered the spread in only one of their last eight losses. They lost twice to the Suns already this season by 12 and by 26 points. They have allowed over 130 points in three of their last five games.

They are 22-33-1 ATS overall and 14-15 ATS on the road.

The Suns failed to cover the spread in their 103-96 win Tuesday night over the Clippers. However, their two wins before that were by 27 and 24 points, respectively.

Phoenix is 15-15 ATS at home this season.

Expect them to play like they did against the Orlando Magic in their 132-105 win.

Take the SUNS -15.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Over has hit in six of the Rockets’ last 10 games.

The Suns’ game Tuesday stayed Under the projected total, but seven of their last 10 games have gone Over.

They have scored 127 or more in three of their last five games. The Rockets have allowed more than 130 in three of their last five.

The Suns will score a lot tonight. The question is whether the Rockets will score enough to help the total.

Anticipating the Suns to cover the large spread, it will be tough for the Rockets to score enough to push the total high enough.

Take UNDER 233.5 (-108).

Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

On Thursday evening, the Houston Rockets (1-6) will travel to the Footprint Center to take on the Phoenix Suns (3-3). Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Suns odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Rockets are coming off an impressive road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers highlighted by another strong performance from rookie SF Jalen Green. C Christian Wood has been the team’s strength, averaging over 20 points per game.

While the Rockets aren’t expected to make much noise this season, they do have a roster that should contend with the top of the West on a nightly basis. The opposite can be said of the Suns who have high expectations set on them.

Led by future Hall of Famer PG Chris Paul and superstar SG Devin Booker, the Suns have struggled out the gate, potentially some hangover from making the NBA Finals.

Phoenix is coming off a big come-from-behind victory over the injury-riddled New Orleans Pelicans. They’ll enter this game as heavy favorites.

Rockets at Suns odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 112, Rockets 101

Money line

PASS on all aspects of this money line. With Ayton potentially out, Wood may see some added touches.

At +470, the upside that Houston plays with makes it a viable option, but I’d still rather not play that side as I’m drastically lower on the Lakers than the public, and I don’t think their two-point loss says that much.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the SUNS -10.5 (-112) as the Rockets have five double-figure losses so far this season.

Ayton should be back as the Suns need to start stringing wins together. They’ve been underwhelming to start the season, but the infrastructure is still there. That said, this is a bad matchup for the Rockets.

They’re great, top six in opponent’s three-point percentage, at defending the three, but they rank in the bottom half of the league in opponent’s overall field goal percentage.

With the Suns composed and one of the best two-point shooting teams in the NBA, I expect them to have their way with Houston.

The experience factor should also loom large as the Rockets have relied on big-time performances from Green to help out Gordon and Wood this season.

If that doesn’t happen against a side with talented defenders like SF Jae Crowder and SF Mikal Bridges, then it could be a long night for the Rockets.

While I do like this Rockets team, the Suns should get a big-time home win as they’ve dropped five of their six by double figures. The Suns are more like the Jazz that took down Houston by 31 than the Lakers.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 217.5 (-105) as Houston has scored fewer than 100 points in three games this season. On top of that, they are a solid defensive side, ranking 12th in the league in defensive rating.

With both teams not in the top half of the league in scoring, I expect a game that could be high-paced but should be sloppy, much like the Suns’ last outing with New Orleans. The Rockets rank dead last in turnover rate, so the Suns’ defense should be able to drastically limit them.

Given that note and that the Suns rank in the bottom five in three-pointers attempted per game, I expect a low-scoring affair.

Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Rockets (14-39) visit the Phoenix Suns (37-15) at Phoenix Suns Arena at 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockets-Suns odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

It has been unusual seeing the Rockets struggle so much this season. They have won just once in their past eight games while covering the spread three times. One of those covers was at home against the Suns April 5; they covered the 14-point number in a 133-130 loss as the Over (224) easily connected.

On the flip side, the Suns have won eight of their last nine games, while alternating covers in each of their past 11 contests. They covered last time out in a 134-106 win against the Washington Wizards as 13.5-point favorites. The Over is 6-1 across the past seven for Phoenix, too.

Rockets at Suns: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Suns 121, Rockets 113

Money line (ML)

The Suns (-900) are too expensive on the money line, costing you nine times your potential return, or a return of just $11.11 for every $100 wagered. Over the long haul you’ll be in the red, and in the red quite a bit.

Against the spread (ATS)

The ROCKETS +13 (-110) have actually played the Suns pretty tough this season despite all of their struggles. Phoenix won 133-130 April 5 at a similar number and didn’t come close to covering the 14-point spread.

The Suns also won 109-103 and barely covered Jan. 20 in Houston as 5.5-point favorites.

Roll with the underdogs to keep it within single digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 227.5 (-115) is the play here. The Over easily cashed in the most recent meeting, as it hit by 39 points.

The Over is also 6-1 across the past seven outings for the Suns, including that April 5 meeting, and the Over is 4-1 in Houston’s past five outings, too.
