Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (5-15) visit the Denver Nuggets (13-7) on Wednesday with tip-off from Ball Arena set for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Nuggets odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets and Nuggets played each Monday in Denver with the Nuggets covering as 11.5 favorites in a 129-113 win. That game featured a lack of defense from both sides that was apparent to anyone who viewed, with neither team being able to consistently string together stops.

What helped the Nuggets win was their stars showing out, with C Nikola Jokic scoring 32 points with 12 rebounds and 8 assists, and G Jamaal Murray scoring 31 points with 4 from behind the arc.

The Rockets had 5 players score in double figures, including 4 starters, but with nobody topped 20 points and with their poor shooting percentages compared to the Nuggets, they had no chance of winning that game.

Rockets at Nuggets picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 119, Rockets 110

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Nuggets should win this game, but the moneyline here is not worth the risk. The line is a result of 1 team being clearly better coupled with the fact that when these teams met Monday night the Nuggets won by 16. The risk here is not worth the reward, avoid the moneyline for this game.

Against the spread

LEAN ROCKETS +11.5 (-110).

While the Nuggets did just beat this team 2 days ago by 16 points, I don’t thing they will be able to quite cover the spread in this game. The Rockets are a bad team, but they have a lot of youth and a lot of scoring potential. The Rocket’s won’t be able to contend with the completeness and the coaching of the Nuggets roster, but they will be able to score.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 229.5 (-105).

The Rockets have a bad offense and a bad defense, but what helps the under in this game is the Nuggets’ mediocrity on the defensive end. The majority of the defense on Denver comes from the backcourt, but the scoring from the Rockets comes from the front court mostly. The under here is safer based on team averages and the inconsistency from beyond the arc from both teams also helps me have confidence in this bet.

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (15-47) visit Ball Arena Friday to take on the Denver Nuggets (36-26). Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Nuggets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Nuggets are coming off an embarrassing defeat to the 14th-place Thunder. Denver was a 15.5-point home favorite and lost by 12. It is still 7-3 against the spread (ATS) over its last 10 games but has failed to cover both times it has been favored by 10 or more.

The Nuggets are led by reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, who is averaging 25.4 points per game. He leads the team in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.

As for the Rockets, they are 7-26 on the road this season and are 14-17-1 ATS as a road underdog. Houston is just 3-7 ATS over its last 10 but is 2-2 ATS when spotted more than 10 points.

The Rockets haven’t won since Feb. 2.

Rockets at Nuggets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 120, Rockets 110

Money line

PASS.

Although the Nuggets lost to OKC at home in their last outing, the Rockets have lost 11 straight and aren’t playing nearly as well as the Thunder have as of late.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the ROCKETS +13.5 (-108).

The Rockets are 4-4 this calendar year when double-digit underdogs. While not great, the Nuggets haven’t played well when heavy favorites, just 1-4 ATS as 10-point favorites on the season.

They’ve played Houston twice, going 2-0 straight up and 1-1 ATS, but in neither game has Denver won by 14 or more. The Nuggets also aren’t very good at home, just 17-11 as compared to 19-15 on the road.

I can’t fully get behind this as Denver has been playing far better than Houston as of late. However, when spotted at least 10, Denver has struggled, which is why the only playable side is Houston in this spot.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 238.5 (-112).

The Nuggets are 2-2 this season on totals above 230 points. This line has also inflated two points today.

While both sides have hit the Over more this season, it has been a struggle recently as the Nuggets are 0-2-1 O/U in their last 3 and the Rockets are 1-3 O/U in their last 4.

As for the refs, they’re a combined 57-66 with the umpire, Aaron Smith, just 13-27 O/U.

The Nuggets also sit 19th in pace on the season, so I’d be hesitant to think they’d want to play at Houston’s pace. Neither of the matchups between the two teams has hit this total either.

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

On Saturday afternoon, the Houston Rockets (1-7) head to the Pepsi Center to take on the Denver Nuggets (4-4). Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets at Nuggets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

While the Nuggets record may show just a .500 team, they’ve only lost to the Grizzlies twice, the Cavaliers and the Jazz. A 12-point loss to Cleveland has been their lone blemish at home this season.

With MVP Nikola Jokic leading the way and the team still sitting at just .500, Denver has clearly missed offense from injured guard Jamal Murray. After a strong playoff run last season, the Nuggets will be heavy favorites on their home court. This will be their first game since Wednesday.

The Rockets are no pushover though, having No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green starting to enter the spotlight. C Christian Wood leads the team in scoring, and his length should impact Jokic. Not often the favorite, the Rockets are 4-4 ATS, so they’ve generally kept games as close as expected.

Rockets at Nuggets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 112, Rockets 103

Money line

PASS on the money line. The Nuggets were 25-11 at home last year season.

They’ve kicked off this season 2-1 on their home court. At -700, there’s no value in betting on Denver. The Rockets have some potential, but having lost six straight, there’s not much hope for them to win outright.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the ROCKETS +11.5 (-112) as the best value. Denver is just 3-5 against the spread.

The Nuggets offense has been in a slump this season as they rank 23rd in offensive rating despite having the league MVP on their side. Denver has the second-worst offensive turnover rate which is also a cause for concern. There’s no reason to think Jokic and the Nuggets will pummel Houston.

Considering Wood’s 7-foot-3 wingspan, he should be able to impact Jokic’s performance. The Rockets rank 17th in defensive rating, so while not great, it’s far better than a one-win team should be.

If the Rockets can show competence offensively, they should be able to hold the game to single digits. Houston has lost four of their games by more than 11, covering the other four.

Given Denver’s struggles, Houston’s spread feels like the better play.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 216.5 (-107) as the best bet in this game.

The Rockets rank as the fastest-playing team in the NBA, No. 1 in pace. However, the Nuggets, behind Jokic, can typically control games, and they are sitting in the bottom third of the league in pace.

With a top-five defensive rating, the Nuggets should be able to hold down an inconsistent Rockets team. Houston has scored under 100 in three of its last six games.

While Green is a stud, he’s shot over 40 percent in just two games this season. Expect Houston to struggle offensively. Denver holds teams to under 45 percent from the field and has the sixth-best defensive rebounding rate.

Denver should be able to limit Houston. Considering the Nuggets’ poor offensive rating yet their quality defense, the Under is the better play.

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Rockets (15-45) travel to meet the Denver Nuggets (38-21) Saturday at Ball Arena. Tip-off is set for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockets-Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets had a near-miss last time out at home against the Los Angeles Clippers, falling 109-104 as nine-point underdogs on Friday.

Houston has won just once across the past nine outings, going 3-6 ATS during the stretch. That includes a 128-99 beatdown in Houston by Denver April 16 as 9.5-point underdogs.

The Nuggets saw their four-game win streak come to a crashing halt on Friday night, as the Golden State Warriors trounced them 118-97 in San Francisco.

Rockets at Nuggets: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nuggets 123, Rockets 105

Money line (ML)

The Nuggets (-1400) would cost you 14 times your potential return, or a profit of just $7.14 for every $100 risked. There is just no way to ever justify making that kind of bet, even in a parlay involving several teams.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The NUGGETS -13.5 (-110) rolled the Rockets +13.5 (-110) by 29 points in Houston on April 16 without Murray.

Nikola Jokic went off with 29 points and 16 rebounds on 10-of-12 shooting with seven assists and two steals.

Houston just has very little resistance down low, and Jokic and the Denver bigs should have their way with the Rockets again.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 225.5 (-110) is worth playing lightly. The Over has hit in four of Houston’s past five road games, while the Over has hit in Denver’s past seven as a home favorite.

Rockets at Nuggets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nuggets 118, Rockets 114

Money line (ML)

The Rockets’ 128-126 overtime loss as 7.5-point road underdogs to the Portland Trail Blazers in their first outing was a solid performance, all things considered. They were without newly acquired former All-Stars Wall and Cousins and 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year Gordon.

Also, Houston is playing under a first-year head coach in Stephen Silas and everyone has heard about former MVP G James Harden’s request to be traded. Regardless, Harden came though on the basketball-side of things in the first game as The Beard went off for 44 points on 12-for-22 shooting with 17 assists. I don’t care how you get there, that stat line is absurd.

Denver is out to a disappointing 0-2 start after getting crushed 121-108 at home by the Los Angeles Clippers on Christmas Day and losing to the Sacramento Kings Dec. 23 on a game-winning tip-in by G Buddy Hield as time expired. C Nikola Jokic’s 2020-21 stat line is almost as jaw-dropping as Harden’s; the Joker is averaging 26.5 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists through two games.

The Nuggets have beaten the Rockets in three consecutive games in Denver and you’d think there’s no way Denver falls to 0-3 on the season, especially at home. Still, I am going to PASS on this game because the Nuggets’ money line is too expensive and I’d rather bet the Rockets in the following markets.

Against the spread (ATS)

Again, Denver has a 3-game home winning streak over the Rockets, all by at least 7 points. Also, the Rockets have big names on the injury report, drama with The Beard and both organizations are trending in different directions.

All that is already baked into the line. I don’t know what Silas’ teams look like in the long run, but the Rockets were hitting shots this past Saturday vs. Portland and Harden looked pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Houston has covered the spread in eight of its last 11 games vs. Denver and there is more value on the road dogs in this game. I “LEAN” ROCKETS +6.5 (-110) for a half-unit because I like the total more.

Over/Under (O/U)

Even if Houston wins, covers, or flirts with both but ends up getting rolled, the Rockets should be able to score points. Denver’s best wing defender from last season—SF Jerami Grant—got paid by the Detroit Pistons and the Nuggets defense definitely isn’t its strength.

The Over has cashed in five straight Nuggets games dating back to last regular season and PG Jamal Murray has struggled out of the gate so far this season. GIMME OVER 222.5 (-110) for 1.5 units as the best play in Rockets-Nuggets.
