With the official reveal of the Houston Oilers throwbacks just days away, the Tennessee Titans have dropped yet another teaser video.

The Titans are set to reveal their 2023 Oilers throwbacks on Sunday, July 23 at 8 p.m. CT, although it remains to be seen how exactly that will be done.

My guess is it will be done through a post on social media but that has yet to be confirmed. Whatever the case may be, we are inching closer to a moment any Titans fan with a pulse has been waiting for.

Take a look at the new teaser video the Titans released on Wednesday morning.

We did get a bit of an update recently as far as Tennessee’s approach to wearing the jerseys in 2023.

Jim Wyatt of the team’s official site noted in a recent mailbag that the team would not wear the Oilers threads for any away games after previously stating it was a possibility.

Unfortunately, that also means they won’t be wearing them in Houston against the Texans, which would have made that game even juicier given Texans fans remain irate that the Titans own HOUSTON Oilers history.

However, we still get the home game with the Oilers throwbacks, which is definitely good enough for me.

Titans won’t wear Oilers throwbacks in Houston vs. Texans

The Titans will not be wearing their Oilers throwbacks in Houston against the Texans in 2023, nor will they wear them for any road game.

As great as it would have been to see the Tennessee Titans rock their Houston Oilers throwbacks in Houston against the Texans in 2023, it appears that won’t happen.

According to team writer Jim Wyatt in a recent mailbag, the Titans will not wear the legendary jerseys in the same state where the franchise originated.

He also said the Titans are unlikely to wear them twice this season after he previously said there was a chance the team would rock the jerseys for one home game and one away game.

The team is not going to wear the Oilers throwbacks in Houston, at least not this year. And, after previously thinking the Titans could wear them once on the road this year, I’m not expecting that any longer. It doesn’t sound like that’s going to work out as initially hoped.

It appears wearing the Oilers throwbacks at home against the Texans is still on the table, but obviously that’s not as juicy as the alternative. Unfortunate, but at least we get to see those sweet jerseys this year.

Tennessee is set to unveil the 2023 Oilers throwbacks on Sunday, July 23 at 8 p.m. CT. We’ll have full coverage once they drop, for sure.

Titans set date for Oilers throwbacks reveal

The Titans announced the date they’ll reveal their 2023 Oilers throwbacks.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Tennessee Titans have been teasing Houston Oilers throwbacks for months now and the date for the reveal has finally been set.

Justin Melo of The Draft Network posted an e-mail sent out by the Titans stating that the reveal would occur on Sunday, July 23 at 8:00 p.m. CT, so mark your calendars. One would assume this will happen on social media.

The e-mail includes the words “new drip” and “coming soon” with a picture of a helmet covered in oil and the reveal date at the bottom.

Tennessee was originally expected to wear their Oilers throwbacks for one home game in 2023, but beat writer Jim Wyatt recently stated they might wear them for multiple games, one home and one away.

To add a little juice to it all, it remains possible the Titans will wear them against the Houston Texans, whose fan base is none too pleased about Tennessee owning Oilers history.

Best Titans or Oilers player to wear each jersey number in franchise history

The best Tennessee Titans or Houston Oilers player to wear each jersey number in franchise history, from 0-99.

With it being the quiet time of the NFL offseason ahead of training camp, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at Tennessee Titans franchise history and choose the best player to wear each number, from 0-99.

Of course, when you talk about Tennessee Titans franchise history, you have to include the Houston Oilers, no matter how much Houston Texans fans might disagree with it.

While choosing a player for some numbers was quite easy, there were some truly difficult decisions to make for others. For the most difficult decisions, we included an honorable mention below the actual pick, so you’ll know by seeing that just how much I struggled with it.

Some of the criteria included how productive the player was for the Titans or Oilers while wearing the actual jersey number, plus accomplishments such as Pro Bowls and All-Pro nods, and longevity was also factored in.

For example: while Julio Jones had the best career as a whole by a mile of any Titans player to wear No. 2, he didn’t make the cut because he only spent one lackluster season in Nashville. The same goes for Randy Moss.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the best player to wear each jersey number in Oilers/Titans franchise history.

Titans might wear Oilers throwbacks more than once in 2023

It looks like the Titans might be wearing their Oilers throwbacks more than once in 2023.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

We’ve known for some time that the Tennessee Titans would be wearing their Houston Oilers throwbacks during the 2023 season, but it was thought they would only do so for one home game.

However, in a recent mailbag from Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, he’s hearing the team might wear the throwbacks for both a home and away contest this coming season.

He also revealed that we should be hearing something at the end of this month in regard to the throwbacks.

Brian McClain from Adams, Tennessee
Question:
Hey Jim. Do we know if the throwback jerseys will be home and away or just one of them? Also do we have an approximate release date.

Jim: Yes, and hearing it could be both (home and away games, not jerseys). End of this month.

We still don’t know for which game or games Tennessee will don the jerseys for, but Wyatt speculated back in March that the Titans could wear them against the Houston Texans.

Later that month, fellow Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky stated that wearing them against the Texans was on the table, but long-time NFL beat writer John McClain explained why he didn’t think that would happen.

As McClain rightly points out, the Titans wearing their throwbacks against the Texans would add some extra juice to the matchup, as Texans fans are none too happy that the Titans own the rights to the Oilers jerseys.

Several Titans, Oilers listed among best to ever wear their numbers

Several Titans and Oilers were listed as either the top choice or an honorable mention on Touchdown Wire’s list.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers franchise has had its fair share of truly special talents ever since the organization began its existence back in the 1960s.

A total of 17 Hall of Famers spent time with the franchise, while several others on the list were great in their own right despite not being recognized by the Hall of Fame committee.

Doug Farrar of ‘Touchdown Wire’ recently created an article naming some of the best players to wear each jersey number, and three players from the franchise were selected as the best in NFL history to ever wear their respective jersey numbers:

  • QB Warren Moon (No. 1)
  • RB Eddie George (No. 27)
  • DL Elvin Bethea (No. 65)

Tennessee/Houston also had several players who earned an honorable mention for a handful of different jersey numbers, including:

  • QB Kerry Collins (No. 5)
  • QB Steve McNair (No. 9)
  • RB Derrick Henry (No. 22)
  • RB Earl Campbell (No. 34)
  • LB Robert Brazile (No. 52)
  • OL Mike Munchak (No. 63)
  • OL Kevin Mawae (No. 68)
  • OL Jon Runyan (No. 69)
  • OL Bruce Matthews (No. 74)
  • OL Steve Hutchinson (No. 76)
  • DL Ray Childress (No. 79)
  • WR Derrick Mason (No. 85)

In order to view the rest of the rankings, make sure to check out Farrar’s article to see the list in its entirety.

Titans’ Will Levis excited to wear Oilers throwback in 2023

Titans QB Will Levis recently shared his excitement for the chance to wear an Oilers jersey in 2023.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Tennessee Titans are set to wear their Houston Oilers throwbacks in 2023, with the team even teasing the jerseys multiple times so far this offseason and hinting that a reveal would come this summer.

As you’d expect, Titans fans are excited about it and Houston Texans fans are not, especially with the prospect of Tennessee possibly wearing them in a game against Houston.

But it isn’t just the fans who are excited. Titans 2023 second-round pick and quarterback, Will Levis, recently expressed his excitement for the throwbacks in a post on Instagram.

Also included in the post was a rendering of Levis in the Oilers threads.

While Levis will rock the throwbacks in 2023, it remains to be seen if he’ll be doing so from the field or the bench in Year 1, as he isn’t certain to start in his first season.

As things stand now, veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill sits atop the depth chart, and Levis is also behind Malik Willis, who has outplayed him this offseason.

However, it’s still very early and Levis will have a chance to improve his positioning when training camp rolls around on July 25.

Titans drop another teaser video for Oilers throwbacks reveal

The Titans dropped another teaser video for Oilers throwbacks on Tuesday morning.

The Tennessee Titans are planning on wearing their Houston Oilers throwbacks for a home game during the 2023 campaign.

As fans wait for the official reveal, the team is dropping teaser videos during the offseason, with the first coming early last month that featured a black oil barrel with the words “coming summer 2023” written on the front.

The Titans were back at it again on Tuesday morning, releasing their second teaser video for the throwbacks in as many months.

This one had a bit more detail, though, as it showed a helmet being pulled out of a barrel of oil, which still had the words “coming summer 2023” written on it.

Check out both teaser videos below:

As far as when the Titans will wear their throwbacks during the season, that remains to be seen.

However, there has been some thought that perhaps the team could rock them against the Houston Texans, which would be awesome considering the fan base’s frustration with the Titans owning Oilers history.

Titans’ NFL draft history with the No. 147 overall pick

The Titans have owned the No. 147 overall pick in the NFL draft just once in franchise history.

With the Tennessee Titans owning the No. 147 overall pick (fifth round) in the 2023 NFL draft, we’re taking a look back at the franchise’s history of selections in that spot.

The Titans have owned the No. 147 overall pick once in franchise history, which came in 1987 while they were the Houston Oilers. At the time, the selection was located in the sixth round.

And with that pick, the Oilers selected linebacker Al Smith out of Utah State, which turned out to be a great move.

Davis, who tallied 100 tackles or more five times, spent 10 seasons in Houston, earning a pair of Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro selection, feats that are no doubt rare when it comes to late-round picks.

Once his playing career was over, Smith joined the Titans in 1998, serving as the director of player development and pro scouting until 2007. He has also served as the Chairman of the Board of Chapter Presidents for the NFL Alumni Association, according to his Linkedin page.

The Titans own six picks in this year’s draft, with one in every round but the fourth thanks to the Julio Jones trade in 2021. Tennessee can only dream of this year’s No. 147 overall pick working out like Smith did.

Titans drop video teasing reveal of Oilers throwbacks

The Titans dropped a video on Monday that teases the reveal of the Oilers throwbacks.

The Tennessee Titans are set to wear their Houston Oilers throwback jerseys for a home game in 2023, and the team recently dropped a teaser video that hints the reveal will come this summer.

The video features a black oil barrel that has the substance leaking out of the top of it, with “coming summer 2023” written on the front, which likely means the reveal will come then.

The only thing that can make the Titans wearing Oilers throwbacks better is if they do so against the Houston Texans, whose fan base is irate at the idea that Tennessee owns the rights to those jerseys.

That debate was recently re-ignited by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who believes Houston should have the rights to the jerseys.

However, former Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan immediately shot that down, rightly noting that Oilers history belongs in Tennessee.

Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt is of the opinion the Titans will wear their throwbacks against the Texans, but fellow long-time beat writer John McClain recently explained why he doesn’t think they will.

I’m right there with McClain in hoping the Titans do wear them against the Texans, as it would certainly add more juice to the divisional rivalry.
