Bears Hot Seat Watch: Where Matt Eberflus, Luke Getsy, Ryan Poles stand in Week 7

The Bears found themselves back in the loss column. How hot are Matt Eberflus, Luke Getsy and Ryan Poles’ seats in Week 7?

The Chicago Bears found themselves back in the loss column after a frustrating 19-13 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. It marked the team’s 15th loss in the last 15 games, and they haven’t won a home game since Sept. 25, 2022.

Head coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and general manager Ryan Poles all find themselves on the hot seat, in some regard, following what’s been a brutal two seasons.

Since the new regime has taken over at the start of the 2022 season, the Bears have gone 4-19, including a franchise-worse 14-game losing streak.

While there was some optimism after last week’s game, that’s vanished after this brutal loss, along with quarterback Justin Fields suffering a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand that could keep him out for a bit.

Whether Eberflus, Getsy and/or Poles last through the entire season, one month, two weeks or one game remains to be seen. But we’ll be following along the entire way.

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 the hottest seat, here’s a look at where Eberflus, Getsy and Poles’ seats stand heading into Week 7.

The Chicago Bears are a disaster right now. While we’re just four weeks into the 2023 NFL season, it’s clear that changes are coming to this Bears organization.

Head coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and general manager Ryan Poles all find themselves on the hot seat, in some regard, following what’s been a brutal two seasons.

Since the new regime has taken over at the start of the 2022 season, the Bears have gone 3-18 and are riding an active 14-game losing streak — a franchise worst — and are no doubt the worst team in the NFL right now.

Their once promising young quarterback, Justin Fields, has regressed and looks like he might be headed out after this season. Especially if the Bears land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Whether Eberflus, Getsy and/or Poles last for the entire season, one month, two weeks or one game remains to be seen. But we’ll be following along the entire way.

Hot Seat Watch: How hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after 16 games?

With just one game left this season, how hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after the Bears’ Week 17 win?

With one game left in the 2021 NFL season, it’s believed that Week 18 will be Matt Nagy’s final game as the Bears’ head coach. After four years, a 34-30 record, and a total collapse after starting 5-1 in 2020, the Nagy era is “likely” over.

After 16 games this season, the Bears are 6-10, in the midst of their first losing season since 2017. The decision-making from Nagy plays a key role in the poor record this team has posted. Some of those decisions include play-calling, not taking field goals when given the chance, and creating a quarterback carousel.

This season, Bears quarterbacks have 15 passing touchdowns and 17 interceptions throughout 16 games. David Montgomery has thrown an interception too, which would total 18 interceptions overall for the 2021 Bears.

In reference to last season, in nine games, Mitchell Trubisky had 16 passing touchdowns and just eight interceptions. What a difference one year makes.

Even though the Bears are on a two-game winning streak, the page on the Matt Nagy era is going to be closed after next week. If that is true, the team can move on and build a winning culture, with the right coach for Justin Fields.

Like always, Nagy’s hot seat will be on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 being the hottest seat for Nagy.

Hot Seat Watch: How hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after 13 games?

The Bears were blown out in the 2nd half against the Packers in a 45-30 loss. Here’s how the defeat affects Matt Nagy’s hot seat.

After a very anti-climatic second half for the Chicago Bears that resulted in a 45-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, fans have many questions. The big question is, how did this team fall apart so quickly after being up 27-21 at half? Matt Nagy is the one who has to figure that out.

Nagy is now 4-8 as Chicago’s head coach this season. He is one loss away from clinching his first losing season, after back-to-back 8-8 seasons. In this case, since Nagy missed the 49ers game, he doesn’t have the 4-9 record the Bears hold, as he didn’t coach that game.

Still, this 4-9 season has been a waste. Fans have seen some of what Justin Fields can do, but they’d like to see him with a different coach. Nagy is on thin ice and it’s cracking. Things are not good in Chicago, both on offense and now on defense.

Nagy continues to be out-coached weekly, which can be seen as the games get deep into the second half. There’s no finishing games. The Bears could have a lead against anyone in the NFL and it wouldn’t be safe right now. That’s just because of how poorly this team has been coached.

Like always, Nagy’s hot seat will be on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 being the hottest seat for Nagy.

Hot Seat Watch: How hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after 11 games?

The Bears avoided a six-game losing streak with a victory over the winless Lions. But how hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after that win?

After one of the weirdest weeks in the Matt Nagy Era, the Chicago Bears snapped their five-game losing streak. The Bears beat the Detroit Lions 16-14 with a last-second field goal from Cairo Santos. This win makes Nagy 7-1 against the Lions in his coaching career.

A win over the Lions isn’t going to save Nagy’s job, though. It’s going to take more. Even after the two-point win on Thanksgiving, fans have continued with the “Fire Nagy” chants.

Most recently, on Friday. the United Center chanted “Fire Nagy” during the Chicago Blackhawks win against the Blues.

So, what was so weird about the past seven days? The firing rumors. Early last week it was reported that Nagy would be fired win or lose following the Bears’ Thanksgiving game. That is yet to happen, but the news took the football world by storm.

Many websites covered the news but were quickly backtracking after George McCaskey, the team’s chairman, came out in support of Nagy. That likely eliminates the possibility of a mid-season firing, but it isn’t going to be ruled out totally. With games against the Cardinals, Packers, and Vikings on the horizon, these rumors could become true.

Like always, Nagy’s hot seat will be on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 being the hottest seat for Nagy.

Hot Seat Watch: How hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after 8 games?

Matt Nagy didn’t coach in Week 8, but the Bears did look sharper on offense with Chris Tabor, which certainly raises some questions.

For the third week in a row, we will take a look at how hot Matt Nagy’s seat is at the midway point in the season. Last week, he was at an 8 out of 10. After eight games, his seat is burning.  Luckily for him, Nagy didn’t coach last week, so he can’t get higher than an 8.

The Chicago Bears have lost three straight games, one by 10 points, one by 35 points, and then one by 11 points. It’s been ugly when they’ve lost. After a decent start in the first half, the Bears’ offense stalled and the defense couldn’t keep them in the game, en route to a 33-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Many fans were impressed with Chris Tabor and how he handled being the acting head coach. The team did look sharper, but Tabor didn’t lead them to victory, so there aren’t enough grounds to make the switch, just yet.

Like always, Nagy’s hot seat will be on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 being the hottest seat for Nagy.
