Hornets at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 114, Hornets 108

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on the Hawks (-600) to take the down Hornets, who are 2-8 in their last 10 games and 8-30 on the road this season.

Against the spread

BET HORNETS +10.5 (-110).

Charlotte is 5-3 ATS in its last 8 games and has covered the spread in 4 of its last 6 as an underdog of 9.5 or more points. It faces an Atlanta team that is 0-4 ATS in its last 4 and failed to cover in its last game as a double-digit favorite.

Over/Under

BET OVER 219.5 (-110).

Both the Hornets and Hawks have Over records of 8-2 in their last 10 games. The Hornets have hit the Over in each of their last 3 games, and 5 of 6, while scoring 118 or more in 4 of their last 8. The Hawks have hit the Over in back-to-back games and scored 110 or more points in 9 of their last 10.

Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Charlotte Hornets (17-52) make the 3rd stop on a 4-game road trip against the Atlanta Hawks (30-39) Saturday night. Tip-off at State Farm Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Hornets vs. Hawks odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Hornets lead 2-0

The Hornets have dropped the past 3 outings while also failing to cover in those games. The Under has hit in each of the setbacks, too, as the offense has cobbled together just 95.3 points per game in the span, going for 98 or fewer in each contest. The Under is 14-3 in the past 17 games dating back to Feb. 12, too.

The Hawks ended up with just a single win in a 5-game road trip, going 1-4 against the spread (ATS). At home, Atlanta is 3-1 straight up/ATS in the past 4 games while cashing the Under in each of those outings.

Charlotte has covered both meetings against the Hawks, including a 122-99 blowout Feb. 14 as a 7-point underdog. The Under has also cashed in both outings this season.

Hornets at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 108, Hornets 101

Moneyline

The Hawks (-430) will cost you more than 4 times your potential return, and that’s an insane risk given the fact Atlanta has won just once in the past 5 games, and it has been tripped up by the Hornets (+340) in each of the 1st 2 meetings this season.

Still, Charlotte cannot be trusted, as this team has managed a dismal 8-28 record on the road.

PASS.

Against the spread

The HORNETS +9 (-110) are worth playing lightly as the underdogs.

Again, Charlotte has won the 1st 2 meetings this season, both taking place at Spectrum Center in the Queen City.

The Hawks -9 (-110) cannot be trusted laying such a big number, especially considering Atlanta is just 1-5 ATS in the past 6 games. While the Hawks have been decent at home lately, as a favorite of 6.5 or more points, Atlanta is just 2-7 ATS in the past 9 instances.

Over/Under

UNDER 214.5 (-110) is the play in this Southeast Division battle.

While the Over is 3-1 in the past 4 games for the Hawks, the total has gone low in 10 of the past 15 games, including a perfect 5-0 in the past 5 outings at home.

For the Hornets, the Under is 3-0 in the past 3 games while going 7-2 in the past 9 outings and cashing at a 14-3 pace in the past 17 contests.

Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Charlotte Hornets (1-1) and Atlanta Hawks (2-0) meet Sunday at State Farm Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hornets vs. Hawks odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Hornets followed up a dominant 129-102 win at the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday with a disappointing 124-112 home loss vs. the New Orleans Pelicans Friday. Charlotte failed to cover as a 7-point underdog, despite holding Pelicans F Zion Williamson to just 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting.

The Hawks are undefeated beating up on mediocre competition this season with a 117-107 home win vs. the Houston Rockets Wednesday and a 108-98 home win vs. the Orlando Magic Friday. New addition G Dejounte Murray is averaging 20 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds through 2 games after being acquired from the Spurs in the summer.

Hornets at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 114, Hornets 107

Moneyline

PASS.

Hawks (-556) ML will probably hit, but it is way too expensive to bet. This line suggests that Atlanta has an 84.8% chance of winning and I believe the probability is much lower. The Hornets are being undervalued in this spot.

Against the spread

BET HORNETS +10.5 (-110).

I project Atlanta to win by 7 points, even with Ball and Rozier not playing (F Miles Bridges’ absence has been accounted for in the offseason). This line is an overreaction to Rozier’s injury and Charlotte’s ATS loss to the Pelicans. Take the points.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 228.5 (-105).

The Under is 2-0 in Atlanta’s first 2 games of the season and 6-1 in the last 7 head-to-head meetings between these teams. I expect a low-scoring game between a Hornets squad that is dealing with injuries and an Atlanta offense that is being overvalued due to the addition of Murray.

Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 9 seed Atlanta Hawks host the 10-seed Charlotte Hornets Wednesday for an elimination game in the Eastern Conference play-in tourney. Tip-off at State Farm Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hornets vs. Hawks odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The winner of this game will head to Cleveland to play the Cavaliers Friday in the play-in tourney finale for the eighth and final seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

These teams tied 2-2 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in their regular-season series and the total was 1-3 Over/Under (O/U). Neither team won two straight head-to-head meetings.

Charlotte was 45-35-2 ATS this season and 16-14-1 ATS as a road underdog while Atlanta was 37-45 ATS and 19-15 ATS as a home favorite.

Hornets at Hawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hornets 120, Hawks 117

Money line

Slight LEAN to the HORNETS (+180), if at all, because the Hawks play much better at home and have more big-game experience.

The playoff/play-in atmosphere is completely different and it could be jarring for a young Charlotte team playing with its back against the wall for the first time.

However, from a basketball perspective, there isn’t a lot separating these two teams and this is a good price for the Hornets who have strength-on-weakness edges they can exploit.

Charlotte’s offense has the most transition points added per 100 possessions and Atlanta’s defense has the second-worst transition points added per 100 possessions according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

The Hornets also like to get into the paint and attack the rim, which are areas the Hawks struggled in during the regular season. Charlotte is third in paint points per game (PPG) whereas Atlanta is 19th in paint PPG allowed and 21st in defensive field goal percentage at the rim, per CTG.

These rosters are pretty equal in talent but I’ll take Hornets All-Star PG LaMelo Ball over Hawks All-Star PG Trae Young. Ball is 3-2 SU and is averaging more points, rebounds, assists with fewer turnovers and shooting better from the field and 3 across their five career head-to-head meetings.

It’s only a LEAN to the HORNETS (+180) because Charlotte’s spread is a sharper play and the Hawks play much better in Atlanta.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

Definitely BET the HORNETS +5.5 (-110) instead of or heavier than their ML because this is a better spot for Charlotte.

The Hawks -5.5 are 14th in net rating and the Hornets are 16th but Charlotte is more profitable versus mid-tier teams. Atlanta is 11-18 SU versus mid-tier teams with a minus-2.7 ATS margin while Charlotte is 14-13 SU with a plus-1.9 ATS margin, per CTG.

The Hornets are 6-4-1 ATS as 3-to-4.5-point underdogs and 10-5-1 ATS with 2-3 days off. The Hawks are 3-4 ATS as 3-to-4.5-point favorites and 5-9 ATS with 2-3 days off.

There’s been too much line movement from the opener and the original price of the Hawks -4 should still be the number.

The HORNETS PLUS THE POINTS is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

PASS.

The basketball logic says Hornets-Hawks soar Over the total but that hasn’t happened in their recent head-to-head history. The Hornets and Hawks are 1-6 O/U in their last seven meetings.

There’s been sharp line movement heading South since the total opened at 239.5 and has been lowered to the current number. Typically, I’d be following the sharp money but I cannot get down on an Under considering both teams are bottom 10 in defensive rating.

Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Charlotte Hornets (13-11) travel to the “Big Peach” Sunday to play the Atlanta Hawks (12-11) at the State Farm Arena. The tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hornets vs. Hawks odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Charlotte enters on a three-game losing skid, all on the road, with the losses being to the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks. The Hornets are 13-11 ATS and 14-10 O/U with the 17th-ranked net rating.

Atlanta has alternated between winning and losing over the past four games with the latest being a heartbreaking 98-96 home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers Friday. The Hawks are 10-13 ATS and 11-12 O/U with the ninth-best net rating.

Atlanta handled business in the first meeting of the season with Charlotte, 115-105 Nov. 20, as 7-point home favorites. The Hawks are 3-2 overall and 2-2-1 ATS vs. the Hornets since the beginning of last season. The Under has cashed in four of those meetings.

Hornets at Hawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hornets 114, Hawks 109

Money line

I’m okay with a tiny wager on the HORNETS (+230), but be sure to bet Charlotte plus the points heavier or instead of the money line. The bottom line is I like the value in Charlotte at +6.5 because it feels like an Atlanta trap.

The Hawks have the third-best efficiency differential and fifth-best ATS margin at home this season. The Hornets are missing two of their three leading scorers. But, this Hornets-Hawks meeting is priced the same as the first.

That tells me there’s a decent chance Trae and/or Huerter miss Sunday’s meeting, and Atlanta’s backcourt edge will be gone. If Trae suits up, the Hawks’ price will soar.

Regardless, Atlanta is missing depth on the wing, which is a stacked position for Charlotte. The absence of Ball and Rozier opens the door for more Miles Bridges and Gordon Hayward usage. Bridges put up 35 points on 53.6% shooting in the first Hornets-Hawks meeting.

Again, if you take HORNETS (+230), go lightly and hit Charlotte’s spread harder.

Against the spread

Definitely BET HORNETS +6.5 (-107) heavier than or instead of Charlotte’s money line. The Hornets are 8-4 ATS vs. teams with a winning record while the Hawks are just 2-7 ATS.

Furthermore, I could see this being a letdown game for Atlanta, who just played a tough, physical rematch of last year’s second-round playoff series with Philly Friday.

That was an emotional primetime game, and I could see the Hawks struggling to get up for this game knowing several Hornets contributors are on the COVID list.

Over/Under

PASS since we don’t officially know who’s playing in this game, and I’d prefer to play the sides because of all the aforementioned logic.

My hunch is that the market will be betting the Under because of the possible absences of several offensive players. If that’s the case then I’d “lean” to the Over as a fade of that overreaction.

However, since that’s only speculative, I’ll PASS ON THE TOTAL.

Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Charlotte Hornets (2-5) clash with the Atlanta Hawks (4-3) Wednesday in a Southeast Division game at the State Farm Arena. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Hornets NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Hornets are in a two-game miniseries with the Hawks after just getting crushed in Philadelphia by the 76ers in both games of that back-to-back by 15 and 16 points. Charlotte is now on a three-game losing streak following back-to-back impressive wins over the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets.

Atlanta has dropped two straight, including a 113-108 loss at home against the New York Knicks as 7.5-point favorites Jan. 4. The Hawks squandered a 15-point lead in the game and ended up shooting worse from everywhere on the floor and being out-rebounded 53-46.

These teams were only able to fit in two head-to-head meetings last year before the shutdown, but Atlanta won both (1-0-1 ATS) with the last contest being a 143-138 overtime victory.

Hornets at Hawks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hornets 119, Hawks 114

Money line (ML)

There are a couple of hoops’ angles I see in Hornets-Hawks. First, Trae Young and Atlanta thrive at the charity stripe. The Hawks are second in free-throw attempts per field goal attempts, but the Hornets are 10th in FT/FGA.

Second, Atlanta might not be able to capitalize on Charlotte’s biggest weakness (turning the ball over): The Hornets are 22nd in turnover percentage, but the Hawks are only 28th in defensive turnover percentage.

Also, Charlotte is much healthier entering this game and 2-to-1 vs. an unproven Atlanta team is too juicy to pass up. This is more of a bet against Atlanta than on Charlotte, but I lean HORNETS (+200) for a half-unit since I am taking them to cover the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME HORNETS +6.5 (-120) for 1.5 units. On top of the stuff written above, more than 70% of the market is on the Hawks in this game (according to Pregame.com) and 70% of bettors don’t beat the House.

Despite the majority of bettors backing Atlanta, the Hornets have the pricier spread. Weird, right? It’s kind of like BetMGM wants you to bet the Hawks. Nah, we are on the Hornets here.

Over/Under (O/U)

lean OVER 231.5 (-115) but not enough to stake a real wager to it. I’m good with just playing the Hornets’ side.
