Sony announces Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition for PS5 and PC

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PC and will re-launch on PS5 as Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, with Burning Shores and more

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PC and will re-launch on PS5 as Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, with Burning Shores and more. Sony made the announcement in a new PlayStation Blog post and outlined everything the Complete Edition includes, which is more than just the DLC expansion.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition launches on Oct. 6, 2023, for PS5, with an expected release date of sometime in early 2024 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’ll cost $59.99 on all platforms, and it’s not coming to PS4.

Here’s what you get in the Complete Edition:

  • Horizon Forbidden West for PS5
  • Burning Shores DLC for PS5
  • Digital soundtrack
  • Digital art book
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Vol. 1: The Sunhawk digital comic book
  • Extras in Photo Mode (special pose and face paint)
  • Carja Behemoth Elite outfit ·Carja Behemoth Short Bow
  • Nora Thunder Elite outfit
  • Nora Thunder Sling
  • Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike piece
  • Resources pack

That’s a decent bit of stuff, considering it all costs $10 less than the game’s PS5 version. Sony didn’t announce a discount for the base game, though given the price jankiness going on, we’d be surprised if one didn’t happen.

Sony also didn’t say whether the PC version would include the same additions or how much it will cost, though it’s available for wishlisting now.

GLHF’s Kirk McKeand called Forbidden West a deeper, richer experience than its predecessor and praised its ecological themes, which help gloss over some of Forbidden West’s pacing issues and shallow character development.

Guerrilla hid clues to a new Horizon game in the Burning Shores DLC

If you’re wondering what a new Horizon game from Guerrilla might look like, you should probably play Burning Shores again

If you’re wondering what a new Horizon game from Guerrilla might look like, you should probably play Burning Shores again. Narrative director Ben McCaw told Video Games Chronicle that the team scattered plenty of hints about what to expect from Aloy’s next chapter in the PS5 game‘s recent DLC expansion.

“There is actually material in the Burning Shores about [the next game],” McCaw said. “I mean, we really tried to drop some hints, particularly in the epilogue of the Burning Shores. We’re just so excited to embark on the next chapter and have the audience come along with us. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Those clues could be a number of different plot points and character arcs. Perhaps Aloy will join Seyka on her journey to restore harmony among the Quen, or maybe Seyka joins Aloy for whatever adventure comes next instead. Aloy finally drops her guard and accepts the fact that it’s okay to receive help by the end of Forbidden West, so her relationship with Seyka – romantic or otherwise – and openness to collaboration may pave the way for the Horizon multiplayer game Guerrilla is reportedly working on.

Whatever the case, Guerrilla certainly has plenty of material to draw on for future Horizon games, and perhaps we’ll catch a glimpse of that future at Sony’s May State of Play presentation.

The 25 most breathtaking pictures we’ve taken in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores

Horizon Forbidden West’s new DLC may be the best looking video game to date.

Photo modes in video games are a favorite of many gamers, and for good reason. Given how incredible video games look nowadays, it’s no wonder many spend a lot of their time in games taking pictures with the extensively detailed photo modes.

Horizon Forbidden West continues to hold my top spot for the most gorgeous video game I’ve played and Guerrilla Games’ newest DLC — Burning Shores — is even more of a feast for the eyes. Given what Guerrilla Games was able to do with the base game on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, making Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores a PS5 exclusive upped the ante in a big way.

And so, it’s only fitting that after finishing my explorations alongside the game’s protagonist Aloy in the Burning Shores, I once again close out my time with the game by celebrating its gorgeous locales. Here are the top 25 pictures I took while traversing the jaw-dropping vistas in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.

Location spoilers for Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores ahead. All photos were taken on PS5 on the game’s performance mode.

Horizon Forbidden West sequel is probably in development

Guerrilla Games is “expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure.”

Guerrilla Games, the studio responsible for Horizon Forbidden West, is seemingly gearing up for a sequel.

On Monday, Guerrilla Games announced that studio director and executive producer Angie Smets is moving on to a new role – specifically as head of development strategy at PlayStation Studios (Thanks, Eurogamer).

“These past two decades at Guerrilla have been an absolute dream,” Smets said. “I feel privileged to have worked alongside some of the smartest and coolest people in the industry. I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned alongside all the other Guerrillas.”

Later in the same post, Guerrilla Games more-or-less confirms that a follow-up to Horizon Forbidden West is in development.

“We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project,” Guerrilla Games said.

The bit about “Aloy’s next adventure” is worth highlighting since, you know – she’s the protagonist of this series. So her next appearance will likely be in another mainline installment.

Given the vague nature of this statement, it’s unlike that Guerrilla Games is referring to either Horizon: Call of the Mountain or Horizon Forbidden West‘s Burning Shores DLC. However, it does mention “online projects,” which is presumably the multiplayer Horizon spin-off that was confirmed late last year. There have also been rumors of an MMORPG set within the Horizon universe.

Horizon Forbidden West update adds thalassophobia mode

A new accessibility mode makes swimming underwater much less daunting.

If you’re somebody that’s not too keen on murky, seemingly unending bodies of water – Horizon Forbidden West just got a patch that’ll be to your liking.

On Tuesday, developer Guerrilla Games released Patch 1.21 for Horizon Forbidden West for PS5. It’s primarily an accessibility update that adds various color blind settings, HUD adjustments, navigation assist features, and, most interestingly: a thalassophobia mode.

For those unfamiliar with what thalassophobia is: it’s essentially the fear of deep bodies of water – typically oceans. According to Healthline, approximately 5 to 10 percent of people in the United States have thalassophobia. So it’s not an uncommon phobia by any means.

It seems that since Horizon Forbidden West‘s upcoming Burning Shores DLC features a lot of underwater exploration – the developers thought it wise to add a mode that eases up any possible anxiety-inducing moments.

“This feature aims to ease thalassophobia symptoms by improving underwater ambient visibility and allowing you to breathe indefinitely, regardless of story progression,” Guerrilla Games said on Reddit.

Sony’s first-party studios have been leading the accessibility charge for quite some time, but this is taking things one step further (rightfully so).

Burning Shores arrives on April 19, 2023. Unlike Horizon Forbidden West‘s base game, the DLC will be exclusive to PS5. Judging from the stunning launch trailer, it’s clear that Guerrilla Games is dialling up the graphical fidelity by a considerable margin.

Horizon Forbidden West DLC looks epic in new launch trailer

Sony and Guerrilla Games released a new Horizon Forbidden West DLC trailer, and it looks like quite the expansion

Sony and Guerrilla Games released a new Horizon Forbidden West DLC trailer, and it looks like quite the expansion for the PS5 game. It opens with Aloy tracking an enemy to the south, with the help of her trusty winged beast, before things take a slight turn for the worse.

Aloy comes under fire from an unknown assailant, as bolts of blue energy surge forth from the top of a skyscraper and target her. On the bright side, she meets a new companion once she finds safety on the ground, Sekya. The pair will apparently explore the wilds of the Burning Shores together for at least part of the expansion, if not the entire thing, though the journey takes them back into the old places as well.

One brief shot shows Aloy and Sekya speaking with a hologram underground, while another teases a joyful reunion in what looks like a burned-out computer lab, and there’s at least one expansive underwater ruin for Aloy to explore.

The trailer ends with Aloy wielding a fierce-looking new weapon – which some fans prematurely labeled a Zenith Gun – against a new machine foe of gargantuan proportions. This one is less like a machine version of a proper animal and more of a walking island, complete with a volcano on its back.

As for what Burning Shores is actually about, Guerrilla still hasn’t said. Much of the PS5 game’s expansion remains under wraps, though we don’t have long to wait to find out more. Horizon Forbidden West’s DLC launches only for PS5 on April 19, 2023.

Fans already love the Horizon Forbidden West DLC’s new machine

Guerrilla gave a short look at one of the Horizon Forbidden West DLC’s new machine mounts, and fans can’t get enough

Guerrilla gave a short look at one of the Horizon Forbidden West DLC’s new machine mounts, and fans can’t get enough. The new mecha-beast is called a Waterwing, and as you’d expect from a name like that, it helps Aloy glide underwater and fly through the air.

“The Waterwing is a medium-sized flying machine that can dive deep underwater,” Guerrilla said in the tweet announcing it. “It is highly maneuverable and, when disturbed, is an unrelenting foe.”

Aloy learned to dive and swim in Forbidden West, though with normal human speed. The Waterwing looks poised to be a significant asset in underwater exploration, though like every other machine Aloy can tame, you’ll need to bend the Waterwing to your will before you can take to the air.

Fans are looking forward to the challenge, though.

“STOP IT it looks amazing!!!” one user wrote on Reddit. “The bit with the lightening was chef’s kiss We’re so spoiled with beautiful graphics 😍”

“I AM SO HYPE LETS GO” another said.

One wondered if you could pet the machine – unlikely, and possibly not a good idea anyway – while another said they’d love to see Guerrilla implement missions that use the Waterwing’s unique abilities to interact with the environment.

The 56-second clip is some of the only Burning Shores footage Sony and Guerrilla have released ahead of the DLC’s April 19, 2023, release date on PS5, and comes just after the studio posted an in-depth discussion about the challenges of rendering all those clouds Aloy can fly through now.
