We’ve updated our Honkai Star Rail tier list after spending several months with the latest RPG from Genshin Impact maker HoYoverse and figuring out just how well everyone works – or doesn’t, in some cases. Each character in Star Rail follows a different Path and uses a different element, but not every fighter is worth spending your hard-earned materials to level up. In our experience with the beta and a pre-release version built for the press, followed by several months of general play, these are the best Honkai Star Rail characters you can add to your team.

The Honkai Star Rail 1.4 update is coming up fast, and developer HoYoverse announced everything we can expect in the free-to-play game’s latest refresh, including new characters and the first 5-star rerun. Version 1.4 takes us back to Jarilo-VI to solve a problem between the people of Belobog and the IPC and introduces a new video game to play in the video game. Silver Wolf would be pleased.

Elsewhere, you can look forward to two new areas, including a weapons testing ground that seems to be the home of a new event.

Honkai Star Rail 1.3 overview: Everything in the new Star Rail update

Here’s everything new in Honkai Star Rail 1.3, including three 5-star characters, new events, and a big Simulated Universe update

The Honkai Star Rail 1.3 livestream has come and gone, with plenty of details about what to expect in the next Star Rail update. There’s the usual three new characters, new events, some quality-of-life updates, and another new story chapter that seems like it might wrap up the Xianzhou Luofu story, or at least a big part of it. There’s a new area and some substantial changes to the Simulated Universe as well, the first time it’s received such a big update since the game first launched in April 2023.

Check out our up-to-date Star Rail codes list if you need some extra free Jade to throw at the new update’s characters.

Honkai Star Rail 1.3 livestream time and how to watch

The Honkai Star Rail 1.3 livestream is almost here, with info on new characters, events, and, of course, more Star Rail codes

The Honkai Star Rail 1.3 livestream is just around the corner, with news about the RPG’s next round of events, characters, and, hopefully, new plot beats. The livestream will include HoYoverse’s traditional round of Star Rail codes to stack up some extra free Jade and credits, and we already know who the new characters will be this time thanks to some biographical information the team shared on Twitter way back before Kafka even made her debut.

Honkai Star Rail Kafka build and ascension guide

Our Honkai Star Rail Kafka build and ascension guide has everything you need to get the most out of the RPG’s newest character

The best Honkai: Star Rail Kafka build lets you dominate the team and inflict damage even when you’re not acting. Kafka, the infamous intergalactic criminal, specializes in causing damage-over-time (DoT) and ekeing extra damage from DoT effects your party members inflict.

While her signature Light Cone is, naturally, the best fit, you can use a free one to get the most out of Kafka’s skills. Unlike her counterpart Blade, Kafka’s relics are pretty straightforward as well.

If you’re looking for some free Jade to spend on Kafka’s banner, check out our up-to-date collection of Star Rail codes.

HoYoverse teases two new Honkai Star Rail characters

HoYoverse pulled the curtain back on two more Honkai Star Rail characters, though we won’t be seeing them in the 1.2 update

HoYoverse pulled the curtain back on two more Honkai Star Rail characters, including yet another Landau sibling, though we won’t be seeing them in the 1.2 update. The RPG maker posted two character introductions on the game’s official Twitter account, including their rarity and elements, and like the Blade and Kafka teases ahead of version 1.1, these new characters will show up during version 1.3, roughly two months from now.

It’s a different approach than the one HoYoverse uses for Genshin Impact, where new characters revealed on social media show up in the next banner.

First up is Fu Xuan, a 5-star quantum character who follows the path of Preservation, meaning she’s a defense-oriented character.

Fu Xuan uses her foresight abilities to plot the course of the Xianzhou Luofu and predict the outcome of the vessel-nation’s future endeavors, and she firmly believes that everything she does is correct. Sarah Wiedenheft (Octopath Traveler 2, Spy x Family) is Fu Xuan’s English voice actor.

The second character is Lynx, youngest of the Landau siblings and a 4-star quantum character who follows the path of Abundance, so she’s more than likely a healer. Lynx hides behind a mask of laziness, but she’s actually Belobog’s finest and most daring explorer.

Risa Mei (Genshin Impact) is Lynx’s English voice actor.

Lynx will also be Star Rail’s first 4-star healer since Natasha, which should make it easier for folks to put together Forgotten Hall teams. You need two healers or a really good tank for that part of the game, though aside from Natasha, Star Rail’s other healers are 5-star characters who are much more difficult to get.

HoYoverse gives update on Honkai Star Rail PS5 version

HoYoverse made a brief appearance at Summer Game Fest 2023 and teased a Honkai Star Rail PS5 release date

HoYoverse made a brief appearance at Summer Game Fest 2023 and teased a Honkai Star Rail PS5 release date. “Tease” is key here, since we only got a vague time frame, but either way, you can expect Honkai Star Rail on PS5 sometime in the final quarter of 2023.

That should be between October 2023 and December 2023, but we’ll likely learn more about HoYoverse’s plans in a future Star Rail livestream.

Meanwhile, the team debuted a new trailer and introduced a few new characters in the process. We see Silver Wolf, available now in the version 1.1 update, hacking systems and implanting bugs. There’s also Luka, the 4-star melee fighter who rumors believe will show up in version 1.2 later in summer, and Yukong, another 4-star character. Yukong will run on Luocha’s banner in the second half of version 1.1 later in June 2023.

We saw new enemies, another fighting tournament, and plenty of flashy turn-based action, but we’ll have to wait for the next livestream to see what exactly HoYoverse has in store.

Genshin Impact‘s new region Fontaine is meant to launch late in summer 2023 as well, though while HoYoverse teased Sumeru during 2022’s showcase, the team didn’t show anything from the land of justice.

Meanwhile, check out our Honkai Star Rail tier list to see who might fit well with these upcoming characters.

Honkai Star Rail 1.1 banners feature a familiar face and a healer

HoYoverse announced the Honkai Star Rail 1.1 banners during the free-to-play game’s first livestream, and it turns out leakers were right

HoYoverse announced the Honkai Star Rail 1.1 banners during the free-to-play game’s first livestream, and it turns out the leakers were right. Silver Wolf, briefly playable during the RPG’s prologue, is the new 5-star character appearing first, with Luocha headlining the update’s second half, alongside a new 4-star character named Yukong. Unlike HoYoverse usually does for Genshin Impact, we even know who the other 4-star characters are on each banner, and they’re pretty handy to have around.

There’s no Kafka this time, but since HoYoverse recently gave the Stellaron Hunter an official introduction, she’s probably not far off.

Honkai Star Rail’s Kafka might be playable sooner than we thought

A new post on HoYoverse’s social media has fans thinking Honkai Star Rail’s Kafka might be playable in the next version update

A new post on HoYoverse’s social media has fans thinking Honkai Star Rail’s Kafka might be playable in the next version update. HoYoverse posted a brief character introduction on the official Honkai Star Rail Twitter page with Kafka’s entry on the Interastral Peace Corporation’s most wanted list.

“Kafka’s entry only has two things — her name, and a single sentence: ‘Likes collecting coats,’” the tweet says. “Little is known about this Stellaron Hunter aside from her being one of Destiny’s Slave Elio’s most trusted members. In order to achieve Elio’s envisioned future, Kafka gets to work.”

Kafka is briefly playable in the RPG‘s prologue, where she awakens the player character before vanishing into the stars.

The post is innocuous enough on its own, though HoYoverse’s posting habits on the Genshin Impact page have fans speculating that this little intro means Kafa’s banner will run during Honkai Star Rail’s version 1.1 update

And some are just excited to see Kafka again.

Typically with Genshin Impact, HoYoverse only posted character introductions before the version update that those characters appeared in. This one comes a day after HoYoverse also introduced Blade, another Stellaron hunter like Kafka. It seems reasonable to think we’ll probably see more of both characters in the next update, though not necessarily as playable characters.

The alternative explanation is that Elio’s plan and the people who work to make it a reality will take center stage in version 1.1, so HoYoverse is introducing important characters ahead of time. That would also line up with Genshin Impact. HoYoverse teased Dainsleaf from the very beginning and in story intermission chapters, though the enigmatic warrior has yet to appear on a banner.

Prevailing Star Rail leaks point to Silver Wolf – an associate of Kafka – being the headline character. We won’t have long to wait before finding out, though. Honkai Star Rail’s version 1.1 livestream airs on May 26, 2023.
