2021 MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby odds, picks and prediction

Looking at the odds for Monday’s MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby, with MLB prop bet picks and predictions.

The 2021 T-Mobile Home Run Derby takes place Monday at Coors Field. The event begins at approximately 8 p.m ET and will be televised on ESPN. Below, we analyze the 2021 T-Mobile Home Run Derby odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions based on the odds from BetMGM Sportsbook.

The 2020 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby were canceled due to COVID-19, so we haven’t had a derby since 2019 when New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso took home the trophy in Cleveland. Alonso is the No. 5 seed in this year’s installment.

2021 Home Run Derby: What you need to know

  • Los Angeles Angels SP/DH Shohei Ohtani, the major league leader at the break with 33 home runs, is the No. 1 seed in this year’s derby, while division rival 1B Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers is the No. 2 seed.
  • Ohtani is the first Japanese-born player in the history of the Home Run Derby.
  • Alonso is looking to join Yoenis Cespedes (2013-14) and Ken Griffey Jr. (1998-99) as the only players to win consecutive derbies.
  • Alonso piled up 57 home runs en route to his 2019 title, fourth-most in any derby.

Home Run Derby winner picks

Los Angeles Angels SP/DH Shohei Ohtani (+250)

Ohtani is the chalk in this year’s event. It’s hard to envision the Japanese dual-threat not having an impressive evening in the rarefied air at Coors Field and it could be a historic night.

Texas Rangers OF Gallo (+450)

The No. 2 seed has 24 dingers at the break, and he might be one of the hotter players power-wise, smacking 11 homers in his last 12 games.

Colorado Rockies SS Trevor Story (+850)

If you’re looking for a long shot, look no further than the hometown favorite. The Rockies shortstop has managed just 11 homers to date, but he is used to the dimensions, lighting and all other factors in his home park for a slight advantage.

You need only to look to 2018 when OF Bryce Harper, then of the Washington Nationals, won in his home park.

2021 Home Run Derby props and other plays

Shohei Ohtani-Joey Gallo (+500) to reach final

Taking the top two seeds to advance to the final might not be the sexiest pick, but it’s the safest, with a chance to multiply your initial wager by five.

Over 500.5 feet (-120) – longest HR in first round

Giancarlo Stanton, then of the Miami Marlins, once hit a 504-foot home run during a game at Coors Field back in 2016. That was under game conditions, not a glorified batting practice session. It doesn’t matter who does it, someone is dialing long-distance Monday night. Count on it.

American League (-200) – winning player/league

The top four seeds, Ohtani, Gallo, Oakland Athletics 1B Matt Olson and Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez, each hail from the American League. Baltimore Orioles OF Trey Mancini is the No. 6 seed. That’s just three chances in eight for the NL to spoil the party. It’s unlikely anyone will.
