Hogwarts Legacy is releasing holiday 2022

The massive RPG from WB Games Montréal is coming soon.

We got an in-depth look at Hogwarts Legacy during the most recent State of Play, and it looks to be a massive action RPG.

The lengthy gameplay demonstration for Hogwarts Legacy revealed how WB Games Montréal is shaping the Harry Potter universe into an expansive action RPG. Fans will be able to choose iconic houses like Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin while attending classes at Hogwarts itself — learning how to ride broomsticks and all that like a proper wizard and all that.

The presentation also revealed Hogwarts Legacy will release sometime this holiday.

Hogwarts Legacy gets a small teaser before State of Play

Warner Brothers gave Harry Potter fans some crumbs.

The big reveal for Hogwarts Legacy is still days away, but fans can see what it looks like in motion right now.

On Tuesday, Warner Brothers and Avalanche Studios shared a brief clip from the upcoming action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. One of the students gets out of bed and stands there for microseconds. Riveting stuff! Snark aside, folks have been waiting years to see this one, so it’s something.

Check it out for yourself below. It’s undoubtedly a wizard in a school, probably running on a PS5. Who’s to say since Hogwarts Legacy is also coming out on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

PlayStation is dedicating an entire State of Play to Hogwarts Legacy this Thursday. GLHF has a write-up detailing when and where fans can watch in advance. Hopefully, it’s more exciting than the last State of Play showcase, which was mostly a dud.

In any event, the Hogwarts Legacy State of Play goes down Thursday, March 17, 2022, on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

The best RPGs of 2022 – the most exciting upcoming RPG games

Role-playing in 2022 is all about depth of experience.

What even is an RPG in 2022? Such has been the cross-pollination of genre elements over the last few generations that where you’d once have described a game with XP, an inventory and upgrade trees as classic RPG material, now those markers only narrow it down to ‘a video game’.

When it boils down to it, role-playing in 2022 is about depth of experience. Games that embark on vast narratives and give you some agency in them, whether that means your protagonist has a new pair of +5 charisma shoulder pads for the next big fight or their dialogue options actually change the course of events in the game world. A great modern RPG should take you on a journey and steep it in interconnected systems. Failing that, at the very least there should be the occasional cuirass or a chest that somebody has inexplicably left one gold coin in.
