AEW Rampage results 01/12/24: Homecoming rolls on for Eddie Kingston

Among other things, Cool Hand Ang’s love life took a turn for the worse on AEW Rampage Homecoming.

After a fun night of Homecoming action at Daily’s Place on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, it’s time to keep things rolling with Rampage from the same venue. There’s definitely something comforting about seeing AEW back in the place where it spent so much of its formative first few years, even if said years were under less than ideal circumstances.

It might be a bit chilly (at least for Florida) for Rampage, but perhaps the action in the ring will keep the fans warm. An Eddie Kingston title defense is a great place to start, so let’s just get right to the ring for this hour of Friday night wrestling.

AEW Rampage Homecoming results:

  • Eddie Kingston def. Wheeler Yuta by pinfall to retain the AEW Continental Crown Championship
  • Renee Paquette says fans loved seeing The Hardys and Mark Briscoe together, and they all seem fired up to remain a trio since they’re good in the ring and for ratings
  • Swerve Strickland def. Matt Sydal by pinfall
  • Paquette talks to Top Flight and Action Andretti, who get interrupted by Private Party again, this time with a challenge for any two of the three of them; also Andretti guzzles and crushes a bottled water for some reason
  • Hikaru Shida def. Queen Aminata by pinfall; Shida shows her opponent respect afterward and they smile as they hug
  • Video highlights are shown to shine a highlight on the feud between FTR and House of Black that has recently drawn in Daniel Garcia as well

AEW Rampage results 01/05/24: Wheeler Yuta keeps it Pure

More developments in the ongoing Kris Statlander-Stokely Hathaway saga also unfolded on AEW Rampage.

While some people question the need for ROH when it is a sub-brand of AEW these days, here’s an even more pertinent question for tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage: Does there need to be a ROH Pure Championship?

We say yes. There’s something cool about a title having its own specific set of rules in a day and age when there are so many championships overall with very little to distinguish between them in many cases.

It’s even good when a heel has it, like Wheeler Yuta does right now, because we get to see how rulebreakers operate within the confine of, well, rules.

Just something to think about while we dive into this AEW Rampage.

AEW Full Gear 2023 results: Toni Storm secures ‘Timeless’ title win

It took some suspension of disbelief, but Toni Storm was a champion again at AEW Full Gear 2023.

Can Toni Storm complete her “Hollywood Homecoming” with a title victory? She tears up what looks like a script after the opening bell, with the announcers joking about her going off book. Hikaru Shida doesn’t appear to find anything funny about her, nor does Mariah May, watching backstage, enjoy seeing her idol take tons of chops from the champ.

Storm fights back with a bulldog and winds up big time for a dramatic elbow strike. Toni covers but barely even gets a one count.

Headbutts make Shida reel a bit, which May likes a lot more. The challenger lays in some more strikes some but takes some coming back, including a big running knee.

In the corner, Shida drops down a series of forearm shots, then follows with a missile dropkick for two. Storm slams the champ back from the apron into the ring and covers for her own two count, then gets her shoe from Luther. When referee Aubrey Edwards takes that shoe, Storm gets another one that Luther has tucked into her waistband and connects for a close near fall.

Shida recovers to hit a counter Storm Zero, but she’s still feeling the effects of the shoe shot and both women are slow to rise. The champ just wears out the challenger with forearm shots and a Falcon Arrow, but Storm kicks out.

After Storm moves away, Shida misses a meteora, looking like she landed hard, and gets caught in an ankle lock. Storm tries hitting Shida with her own shoe and gets clocked in the face, so Shida gets her kendo stick … but is prevented from using it by Luther, who takes the wrath of the champ instead.

Meanwhile, Storm tucks what looks like a small frying pan into her shorts before nearly getting rolled up for three. She recovers for a deadlift German suplex before hitting a hip attack aided by the pan to win it.

May comes out to present Storm with flowers, cheering for her as she becomes the new champ. In black and white, of course.

AEW Full Gear 2023 results: MJF, Swerve, Julia Hart big winners in Inglewood

A dramatic journey to the main event and an incredible Texas Death match were highlights from Full Gear.

In pro wrestling, it’s common to talk about someone as champ and another wrestler chasing them. When the main event of AEW Full Gear 2023 hits the Kia Forum tonight, it will be a rare case of one man filling both roles.

MJF is in the midst of an impressive AEW World Championship reign, but he hasn’t actually had his beloved Triple B title belt for some time. That’s because Jay White took physical possession of the championship and simply refused to give it back — and not for MJF’s lack of trying.

One expects that he’ll have to relinquish it if MJF emerges victorious in Inglewood. And considering White is the biggest underdog on the card at places that traffic in betting lines and such, there’s not a whole lot of belief that he’ll get the job done.

Other challengers seem to have better odds. The consensus seems to be that “Timeless” Toni Storm has a good shot at dethroning AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida, especially since Full Gear is being billed as Toni’s “Hollywood Homecoming.” Kris Statlander may be in a precarious situation as well, considering she’s going to be defending her TBS Championship against both Julia Hart and Skye Blue.

Amidst all of that, the most anticipated match of the night may be the Texas Death match between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page, the latest showdown in a program that has become very personal.

AEW Collision results 11/17/23: Final pieces fall in place for Full Gear

A special Friday episode of AEW Collision finalized some more stipulations and matches for Full Gear.

Saturday night may be alright for fighting, but when Full Gear takes up that night, AEW Collision has to try to prove that Friday is fine for fighting as well. It’s actually going to be a very full Friday, with Collision followed by Rampage and then an ROH taping.

But we care about Collision for now, where there will be several matches with potential Full Gear repercussions and another where someone will earn a TNT Championship shot … for later tonight on Rampage. We told you, there’s a lot of wrestling coming up.

AEW’s penultimate pay-per-view offering of 2023 isn’t necessarily the promotion’s best on paper, as going into the show, I thought Forbidden Door, All In and WrestleDream had better cards.

However, with some revelations expected in the form of the unveiling of the mysterious “Devil” and the unveiling of the promotion’s acquisition of one of the “world’s best wrestlers,” the show could be quite eventful.

But who walks out of The Kia Forum in Los Angeles a winner? Here are my predictions for Full Gear.

AEW Full Gear 2023 betting odds: Several title changes expected in LA

Oddsmakers are expecting a few titles to change hands at AEW Full Gear 2023 this weekend.

Several AEW stars who enter Full Gear this weekend as champions might not be leaving that way.

At least that’s what the oddsmakers think, installing several title challengers as favorites going into the event at the Kia Forum. Among them are Jon Moxley, who will try to win the International Championship from Orange Cassidy, “Timeless” Toni Storm, who is up against Hikaru Shida in her bid to win the AEW Women’s World Championship for the third time, and The Gunns, who don’t even know who they’ll be facing alongside MJF in their ROH World Tag Team Championship match.

Even if MJF does lose on the Full Gear pre-show, the night may not be a total bust for him. He’s a heavy favorite to retain the AEW World Championship in what should be the main event against Jay White.

Like we always do at this time, we should remind you that we don’t recommend actual wagering on pro wrestling shows thanks to the fact that some people already know the outcome of the matches. That said, we enjoy examining betting lines for significant upcoming events as a way to measure the consensus opinion as to what will unfold.

AEW Dynamite results 11/8/23: MJF is running out of friends

The good news is MJF is still AEW World Champion. The bad news is the person in the Devil mask plagued him again.

It’s time to see what Daniel Garcia is all about on AEW Dynamite from Portland.

Garcia has had quite the journey during his time in AEW. Originally positioned as a no-nonsense technical wrestler, he did almost a complete 180 by joining the Jericho Appreciation Society. He’s now known even more for his hip-thrusting dance, though his in-ring skills certainly haven’t gone away.

He’s also competed against some of the best the company has to offer, including Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston and Orange Cassidy. Garcia is somehow still only 25 years old, so his best days may very well still be in front of him.

Perhaps this will be one of those days. Garcia has a shot at the AEW World Championship held by MJF, and while it would be shocking indeed for AEW to do a big title change on free TV just 10 days out from a pay-per-view — where it’s already advertised MJF vs. Jay White as a featured bout — stranger things have happened.

White has a hurdle of his own to clear tonight in Portland, where he’ll take on Mark Briscoe, who just recently returned from injury. White’s spot in the Full Gear match is on the line, but unlike MJF, the Switchblade has several buddies to watch his back and ensure he makes it out of Dynamite with that opportunity intact.

(And the title belt in his possession, since he’s been holding onto it even though it still belongs to MJF.)

Plus we’ll see Darby Allin and Sting in tag team action, Swerve Strickland vs. Penta, the in-ring return of Red Velvet, and a talking segment with the Golden Jets, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.

AEW Dynamite preview 11/8/23: MJF, Samoa Joe defend their titles (but not against each other)

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite also has Sting, Darby Allin and Swerve Strickland scheduled for matches.

Like the great Yogi Berra once said, it’s getting late early on the road to Full Gear. So tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Portland is going to answer two big questions about who will be holding and competing for certain titles two Saturdays from now at the Kia Forum.

Will the world championship scene change ahead of Full Gear?

Let’s start with the biggest one first. MJF is supposed to be facing Jay White in Inglewood in a title match that subverts the usual champion-challenger dynamic since White has been in physical possession of the AEW World Championship for weeks.

Yet both of them have their spots in that match on the line tonight. White is facing Mark Briscoe, recently returned from injury. Meanwhile, MJF has his belt up for grabs against Daniel Garcia, currently struggling with the whole pro wrestler/sports entertainer thing again.

No one expects either MJF or White to lose, but it’s interesting that these high stakes matches are even taking place with the PPV 10 days away. And hey, if Switchblade loses, he can just refuse to give the title belt back as that’s been working out pretty well for him so far.

Will Samoa Joe vs. Keith Lee steal the show?

It seems like just last week we were complaining about AEW giving Keith Lee nothing interesting to do … because it was. We’re not saying we manifested his ROH World Television Championship shot against Samoa Joe tonight, but it does kind of feel like that.

Even though Joe does not have a title defense scheduled at Full Gear, there’s still time for that. Or maybe Lee actually wins this and becomes a mainstay on ROH for a bit. Either way, we’re looking forward to it.

Will Toni Storm appear only in black and white during her segment?

This is a sillier thing to look forward to, but Tony Schiavone is supposed to have a sitdown interview with Hikaru Shida and “Timeless” Toni Storm before they clash over Shida’s AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear, and AEW suggested Storm would only agree to it if she was filmed in black and white.

While her gimmick appears it may be grating on some fans, we still can’t get enough of it, and we can’t wait to see what she might do in the lead-up to Nov. 18.

AEW Dynamite results 11/1/23: TK disappoints, Full Gear bulks up, MJF relents

Lots more got settled for Full Gear on AEW Dynamite, which ended with scissoring.

“Another one.”

That’s one of DJ Khaled’s trademark catchphrases, but it could just as easily apply to Tony Khan and his love of “important” announcements. It’s happened frequently enough that he takes some ribbing for it among pro wrestling fans, even though his track record of delivering on them is actually pretty good.

The intrigue about tonight’s announcement, though, is that unlike some of them in the past, no one seems to know what this one is about. That alone should mean that it’s worth tuning in to AEW Dynamite from Louisville.

Fortunately, there’s plenty of in-ring action to look forward to as well. Hikaru Shida will defend her AEW World Championship against Willow Nightingale in what should be a spirited yet respectful encounter. Hangman Adam Page and the Young Bucks will put their Ring of Honor six-man titles (which we honestly forget sometimes that they have) up against Brian Cage and Gates of Agony too.

Oh, and Orange Cassidy will see if his second run as AEW International Champion will end much sooner than his first, as he defends against Claudio Castagnoli. And the odd couple pairing of Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega will team again to face Daddy Magic and Cool Hand Ang, who are potentially auditioning to be part of the Don Callis Family.

Topping it all off, we’ll hear from birthday boy Adam Copeland. But in the end, for some people it’s still going to come down to that announcement. Such is life.

  • … after the match, Jon Moxley makes his way through the crowd to the ring, and he greets a rushing Cassidy with a beatdown until Castagnoli finally tells his teammate it’s enough
  • MJF knocks on Kenny Omega’s dressing room door, but Chris Jericho just laughs when asked if Kenny is there; even worse, MJF runs into Wardlow, who shoves him against a wall and says he’ll take everything from Max when he least expects it, and in anger, the champ ignores another offer from The Acclaimed to team with him
  • An angry Moxley says he showed Cassidy respect when he didn’t have to, and though he says maybe it isn’t even about him, he plans on beating Orange within an inch of his life at Full Gear just because he can
  • Brian Cage and Gates of Agony def. Hangman Adam Page and Young Bucks by pinfall to become the new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions after Swerve Strickland taunts Page about invading his home, leading to a backstage brawl that leaves his teammates a man down
  • MJF passes up on Samoa Joe’s dressing room and writes “emo bitch” on Darby Allin’s sign before ignoring The Acclaimed once again
  • Adam Copeland is convinced to team with Sting and Darby Allin after an attack by Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne
