Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III edging closer to full workload

As he further recovers from hernia surgery, Seahawks back Ken Walker III will likely be splitting more of the carries with Rashaad Penny.

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III sat out the season opener against the Broncos, still not completely recovered from the hernia operation he underwent this summer. While he made his debut in Week 2, his time on the field was limited.

The plan going forward is to have him carry more of the load.

“We just want to roll him in there and have Rashaad (Penny) and Ken go at it,” coach Pete Carroll said on Monday. “They share the plays. There’s nothing that Ken can’t do. We’re fine about him pass protecting and catching the ball out of the backfield. And you saw we had him split out and we went to him yesterday.”

In his first outing last Sunday, Walker logged just four carries for 10 yards and two receptions for five. His participation should be more significant once he reaches 100%.

“There are really no restrictions on his play at all other than just getting back into game shape because he hasn’t played in a while,” Carroll continued. “The fact that he made it through the game, and he felt alright and got hit a couple times and all that, that just helps us progress.

“He’ll be calling for a regular workload as we are going forward.”

Walker’s next opportunity will come this Sunday when the Seahawks host the Falcons at Lumen Field.

Jonathan Bullard added to active roster, Neiko Thorpe to injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks have placed cornerback Neiko Thorpe on the injured reserve and added defensive end Jonathan Bullard to the 53-man roster

The Seattle Seahawks executed six roster moves on Wednesday afternoon, including placing cornerback Neiko Thorpe on the injured reserve.

Thorpe, a special teams standout, has been battling a hip injury and was inactive for the last two games. Coach Pete Carroll said Thorpe had been experiencing “athletic hernia symptoms” as of late.

To fill the empty spot on the active roster, Seattle has signed defensive end Jonathan Bullard.

Bullard was originally selected by the Bears in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and spent three seasons in Chicago. He was with the Cardinals last year and started six of his nine games played. Bullard was most recently a member of Arizona’s practice squad after he was cut during the initial trim-down of the initial 53-man roster.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks also signed defensive end Damon Harrison and two other to the practice squad.

Pete Carroll updates Seahawks injuries ahead of Rams Week 14

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Following the team’s walkthrough on Friday, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Cornerback Neiko Thorpe (core) has been ruled out for Sunday night after undergoing hernia surgery and will be shut down for the remainder of the year. He is the only player Seattle officially listed as “out” for the contest.

Defensive ends Ziggy Ansah (neck) and Jadeveon Clowney (core) will both be game-day decisions. “We’ll check those guy both out,” Carroll said. “They did practice enough this week where we feel good about it. But we’ve got to check them out on game day.”

Linebacker Mychal Kendricks is doubtful to play Week 14 with a hamstring injury and Cody Barton is likely to hear his number called Sunday night as Kendricks’ replacement.

Tight end Luke Willson (hamstring) and fullback Nick Bellore (quadriceps) are also doubtful for Sunday against the Rams.
