‘We are disappointed in the result but we feel much better about the competitive character’ Everything Buzz Williams had to say after the to Auburn

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say in the post-game presser

Texas A&M (9-6, 0-2 SEC) fell to No. 16 Auburn Tigers (13-2, 2-0) at Neville Arena on Tuesday night, losing their second SEC game in a row.

The Aggies were plagued by self-inflicted turnovers and their second consecutive game of shooting below 30% from the field. They played hard against an elite eight type of squad in the No. 16 Auburn Tigers but ultimately came up short.

While it’s not time to hit the panic button, the offensive issues and perimeter defense need to take a step forward. Coach Buzz Williams spent the majority of the post-game interview discussing how they played better as a team but still have some things to work on.

“I thought that our level of togetherness.. were sensitive to what we were hearing in regards to only our voices. I don’t think that we gave emotion that we have to have or energy that’s required of us to something we couldn’t control”

Post Game: Texas A&M drops its second straight in 66-55 loss to Auburn

The Aggies have another rough shooting night leading to their second straight SEC loss

Texas A&M (9-6, 0-2 SEC) fell to No. 16 Auburn Tigers (13-2, 2-0) at Neville Arena on Tuesday night, losing their second SEC game in a row.

It was more of the same regarding shooting from the Aggies. They followed up their poor shooting performance from last Saturday’s home loss to LSU with an equally poor performance in the first half against Auburn. Their top offensive weapons, Wade Taylor IV and Tyrece Radford, combined for four points on 2-13 shooting.

Fortunately, their defense was able to keep them in the game, holding Auburn’s leading scorer, Johni Broome, to zero points. The Tigers also had their shooting woes for behind the three-point line, shooting 23% from behind the arc. Going into the locker room, Hayden Hefner was the leading scorer for the Aggies with 8 points and down 30 – 22.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The second half started off intense, and both teams felt the sense of urgency of needing to get a grip on the game. After the Tigers built up their biggest lead of the game, the Aggies stormed back off the tough play of  Henry Coleman III. A&M’s defense forced Auburn into multiple turnovers and with about 11 mins left, Radford hit a three to give the Aggies a 44-42 lead.

Both teams exchanged the lead as the game stayed at a high pace. At the eight-minute mark, Auburn grabbed the lead back and extended it as A&M started to get a little reckless with the ball. The Tigers pushed the lead back up to 54-48. Right when the Aggies cut the lead down to two, they gave Auburn too many free points with bad fouls and careless turnovers that allowed the Tigers to hold the lead.

A&M went scoreless the last ten minutes of the game and turned the ball over a season-high 19 times in their 66-55 loss to the Auburn Tigers.

Below are the Aggie critical contributors from the game:

Tyrece Radford:  14 points / 7 rebounds

Henry Coleman III:  17 points / 5 rebounds

How to watch: Texas A&M vs. No 13 Auburn basketball game

Texas A&M will look to get back on track as they face a hot Auburn team that ranked No. 16 in the nation

Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1 SEC) will be on the road against the No. 16 Auburn Tigers (8-5,1-0) at Neville Arena on Tuesday at 8:00 PM CST.

The Aggies are a confusing team after falling to LSU last Saturday, just a year removed from being on top of the SEC last season. They have struggled to find scoring and their perimeter defense has got them in trouble when teams start to find their three-point shot. Coach Buzz Williams sat down with this team after the LSU game and told them they must go back to their brand of basketball. It better resonate throughout the locker room because the road only gets more difficult over the next few games.

The Tigers, on the other hand, are on a red-hot winning streak right now, defeating their last seven opponents by 15 points or more. Four of the starting five are essentially scoring double digits so far on the season and they are shooting 47% from the field while only allowing 38% from their counterparts.

The A&M SEC opponents consist of hosting Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee at Reed Arena to highlight the home slate. The Aggies’ road foes include AlabamaArkansasAuburnGeorgiaLSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

‘We’ve got to get back to what I believe without ego we’ve built the program on’ Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. No. 16 Auburn

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say during the Auburn matchup preview.

The Aggies will get another bite at the apple for their first SEC win this season. However, they will be on the road against the 16th-ranked Auburn Tigers, who are currently on a seven-game winning streak, beating each team by at least 15 points.

Coach Buzz Williams made no excuses for how his team performed against LSU and laid out his issues and what they need to do differently against a hot Auburn team.

” I don’t want to discredit in any sort of way LSU their players their program their coach. We weren’t very good at all of those things, but our energy was low our communication level was
poor our camaraderie our competitive character in many respects I think a lot of the things that we have worked really hard for that to be the standard was not apparent.”

‘It’s early. It’s the first game.. ‘Everything Wade Taylor IV had to say after the loss to LSU

Here’s what Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV had to say in the post-game presser

Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1) hosted the LSU Tigers (9-5, 1-0) on Saturday night at Reed Arena and had their worst shooting output of the season, falling to the Tigers in the conference opener.

The pre-season SEC Player of the Year, Wade Taylor the IV, did all he could to keep the Aggies in the game with his 24 points and 6 steals. He put up an admirable fight, but a poor shooting outing from the entire team wasn’t enough to overcome a determined LSU Tigers team.

He gave his thoughts on the shot selection when asked about the low percentage they are averaging from behind the three-point line this year.

“We just got to continue to shoot them um they eventually fall we just want to keep doing we don’t want to pass up open shots … we don’t want to go out and start thinking like.. Hey we’re not shooting the great percentage as a team so stop shooting it cuz teams are giving it to us we’re working for them so we just going to keep shooting”

‘I hope that this is cleansing for us’ Everything Buzz Williams had to say after the loss to LSU

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say in the post-game presser

Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1) hosted the LSU Tigers (9-5, 1-0) on Saturday night at Reed Arena and had their worst shooting output of the season, falling to the Tigers in the conference opener.

It was a rough night at home against the Tigers, and the lack of offense really came back to bite them this time around. In past games, they were able to work their way back into the game due to their massive rebounding advantage, allowing them to grab for second-chance points. This was one of the few times where the opponent was able to match them on the glass.

“We were first in the country in offensive rebound percentage at 46% of the shots we had missed we had got back and then tonight
it was 26%.  I believe and so that drastically affects us “

Post Game: Texas A&M’s dismal shooting night leads to a 68-53 SEC opening loss to LSU

Texas A&M basketball drops its SEC opener to LSU in embarrassing fashion after shooting 25% on the night, falling 0-1 in conference play.

Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1) hosted the LSU Tigers (9-5, 1-0) on Saturday night at Reed Arena and had their worst shooting output of the season, falling to the Tigers in the conference opener.

The game started off with both teams battling for the record of three-point shots taken to start a game. It was a bit of a mixed bag for both teams from that front, but Wade Taylor had his floater going early and keeping the game close. The Aggies’ defense was able to hold LSU scoreless for over four minutes, allowing them to take a 22-21 lead.

However, the last four minutes were sloppy basketball by both teams, with neither team wanting to take the game over. Together, they went a combined 6-29 from the three-point line and both shot under 34% from the field in general. Due to a foul on Hayden Hefner as time expired, the Aggies took an uninspiring 32-20 lead into halftime. Taylor IV led all Aggies, scoring 11 on the night.

After being outscored early in the second half, 8-0, A&M was able to put together a few buckets, cutting the lead down to 40-37 by the first timeout. Points were a little hard to come by and the team was relatively equal on the boards with Wade Taylor IV, sensing that offense was lacking, started to take matters into his own hands, scoring nine straight points for the Aggies.

Unfortunately for Buzz Williams, no other Aggie could buy a bucket halfway through the second half as LSU went on a 7-0 run to go back up 53-44. As the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.” A&M continued to miss shots and fell behind 61-49 with five minutes left in the game.

LSU played a much cleaner second half than Texas A&M and out-rebounded them on the offensive board for multiple second-chance points. Buzz Williams has seen his team have too many games like this early in the season, where Taylor IV is the only Aggie who can create any offense. A&M ended the night shooting 25%, dropping their SEC opener and snapping their 12-game home SEC winning streak after a 68-53 loss to the Tigers.

Below are the Aggie critical contributors from the game:

Wade Taylor IV:  23 points / 6 rebounds / 6 steals

Tyrece Radford:  11 points / 6 rebounds

NOTE: Solomon Washington & Bryce Lindsay did not suit up for the game

How to watch: Texas A&M vs. LSU basketball game

Texas A&M will open up SEC play against a tough LSU Tiger team

Texas A&M (9-4, 0-0 SEC) will open up conference play against the LSU Tigers (8-5) at Reed Arena on Saturday at 7:30 PM CST.

The Aggies are riding a 12-game SEC home winning streak and will look to extend that by another game when they take the court against the Tigers. Both teams will enter SEC play on a two-game winning streak and want to start conference play on a good note.

LSU saw the return of Jalen Cooks, who has been a big boost to the Tiger offense, scoring double-digit points in each game since he reentered the lineup. The Aggies will still be without Julius Marble, but Tyrece Radford is now back in the mix and will make it harder for defenses to key in on Wade Taylor IV exclusively.

‘I think what we’ve done up until this point we’re probably as prepared as we can be’ Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. LSU

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say during the LSU matchup preview.

On Saturday, the Aggie Basketball team will open 2024 at home, a good LSU Tigers team.

A&M played a strong non-conference schedule that helped prepare them for conference play and they are currently on a two-game winning streak. They also have a chance to extend their SEC home game streak to 13. However, Coach Buzz Williams also knows they are facing an LSU team that is trending in the right direction.

“They’re a completely different team than they were last year; they’re a completely different team than they were three weeks”
The Aggies will have a chance to get an early up on an improving LSU team, but Coach Buzz knows they have to improve across the board. Below, you can watch the full presser Q&A with Coach Buzz Williams.

Texas A&M Basketball receives a single vote in newest USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Finishing 9-4 in non-conference play, Texas A&M received one vote in the newest USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Texas A&M Basketball (8-4) finally got back into the win column after demolishing Houston Christian 79-52 last Friday night behind a career-high 24 points from guard Hayden Hefner. At the same time, forward Andersson Garcia grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds in the win.

Playing one of the most demanding non-conference schedules in the country, the Aggies may have lost more than won, but they stayed competitive and gave themselves a chance to win, including almost defeating the 3rd-ranked Houston Cougars, ultimately falling 70-66.

Interestingly enough, the Aggies have only two to three fewer losses than the rest of the Top 25. Still, due to consecutive losses to Memphis and Houston before the Christmas break, it looks like A&M will need to prove their worth further once SEC play begins on Saturday.

Senior guard Tyrece Radford’s return against the Panthers (20 minutes, 11 points) was encouraging. Still, for the Aggies to reach their full potential as the season rolls on, the impending return of senior forward Julius Marble (University Process) hangs in the balance.

On Tuesday, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll released its updated men’s basketball poll. The Aggies are still out of the rankings and only received one vote compared to three last week, placing them at 38th overall. Here are the complete Top 25 rankings:
