Colts complete head coach interview with Shane Steichen

The Colts completed their head coach interview with Eagles OC Shane Steichen.

The Indianapolis Colts completed their interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen for their head coach vacancy, the team announced Saturday.

Steichen is the most recent candidate to interview for the head coach vacancy and the seventh overall since the offseason started for the Colts.

You can follow along for the latest updates with our tracker.

Steichen, 37, is among the younger candidates being interviewed around the league. Though he got started coaching in the NFL in 2011, he has some interesting experience working with some impressive players and coaches.

Steichen got his start as defensive assistant with the San Diego Chargers for two seasons (2011-2012) before joining the Cleveland Browns staff as an offensive quality control coach (2013).

He went back to the Chargers as an offensive quality control coach for two seasons (2014-2015) and then was promoted to quarterbacks coach for the next four seasons (2016-2019), working closely with Philip Rivers during that time.

He was the interim offensive coordinator in 2019 after the Chargers fired Ken Wisenhunt and then was promoted to be the full-time offensive coordinator in 2020, which resulted in rookie Justin Herbert having an excellent campaign.

Steichen joined Nick Sirianni’s staff in 2021 and has held the role of offensive coordinator since. The Eagles offense was one of the most explosive units in the NFL, and it was clear Jalen Hurts has made impressive strides as a quarterback.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Colts complete head coach interview with Ben Johnson

The Colts completed their interview with Lions OC Ben Johnson for their head coach vacancy Friday.

The Indianapolis Colts completed their interview with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for their head coach vacancy, the team announced Friday.

With Johnson’s interview now under wraps, the Colts have now conducted five interviews for their head coach vacancies. Before Johnson, the Colts interviewed special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone (Jan. 11), Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy (Jan. 12), Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero (Jan. 12) and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris (Jan. 13).

You can follow along for the latest updates regarding the head coaching search with our tracker.

Johnson, 36, is one of the younger candidates interviewing around the league. He’s held several roles as an assistant, working with tight ends and wide receivers. He’s had plenty of experience working with Dan Campbell both with the Miami Dolphins (2012-2015) and the Detroit Lions (2021-present).

The Lions had arguably a top-five offense throughout the 2022 season under Johnson, who helped lead one of the most explosive units in the entire NFL.

It isn’t clear if the Colts will want another inexperienced head coach to take over after the disaster that was Jeff Saturday, but Johnson has a lot of potential considering what he’s shown with the Lions.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Morris is one of the strongest candidates on the market, and he’s been widely popular among teams searching for a new head coach. He has the experience and success as a coordinator that teams want to see when they bring in a new head coach.

You can follow along for the latest updates with our tracker.

Morris is one of the most experienced coaches the Colts have requested to interview for their head coach vacancy. He started coaching in the NFL all the way back in 2002 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which was the year after Tony Dungy’s final season there.

Morris held assistant coaching roles with the Bucs throughout the 2000s, serving as the defensive backs coach (2002), a defensive assistant (2003), the assistant defensive backs coach (2004-2005) and the defensive backs coach (2007-2008).

Then, he was hired as the head coach for three seasons (2009-2011), going 17-31.

With the Falcons, Morris was the assistant head coach/pass game coordinator (2015-2019) and wide receivers coach (2016-2019) before taking over as the defensive coordinator in 2020.

Morris should be considered one of the top candidates considering his past coaching experience and recent success as a defensive coordinator with the Rams.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Colts to interview Ejiro Evero for HC job Thursday

The Colts will be interviewing Broncos DC Ejiro Evero for their HC vacancy Thursday.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to interview Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for the head coach vacancy Thursday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The Colts confirmed Wednesday that they held an in-house interview with special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone so Evero’s interview will be the second that we know about.

You can follow along with the latest updates through our tracker.

Though Evero doesn’t have a ton of experience, he’s a worthy candidate after showing what he could do on the defensive side of the ball. What was even more impressive was his ability to keep the defensive players engaged and passionate despite the failures of the Broncos offense.

Specializing at the defensive back positions, Evero has held plenty of assistant roles throughout his coaching career. Recently, he spent four seasons working as the safeties coach for the Los Angeles Rams (2017-2020) as well as the secondary coach and passing game coordinator (2021).

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Colts interview Bubba Ventrone for HC vacancy

The Colts are reportedly interviewing ST coordinator Bubba Ventrone for the head coach vacancy.

The Indianapolis Colts are interviewing special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone for the head coach vacancy Wednesday, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Ventrone is a favorite amongst the coaching staff. His special teams unit is constantly regarded as one of the best in the NFL, and there is interest for him to be a head coach.

Ventrone was thought to be an interesting candidate to replace Frank Reich after the team parted ways. Ultimately, Jim Irsay only wanted Jeff Saturday.
