Report: Cowboys DC Dan Quinn set for second interviews with three clubs so far

From @ToddBrock24f7: Quinn will meet in-person with the Titans, Seahawks, and Commanders this week. No word yet from the Panthers or Chargers on a follow-up.

Things must have gone well online, because Dan Quinn is now set to meet at least three of his virtual suitors face-to-face.

The Cowboys defensive coordinator will have second interviews with the Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Commanders for the teams’ head coaching positions, according to reports from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero and others.

Quinn had initial conversations last week with those three clubs- as well as the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers- though the meetings were conducted virtually to comply with league rules. In-person interviews may take place this week now that the divisional round of the postseason has been completed.

Nashville looks to be the first stop on Quinn’s interview tour, as he is expected to meet with the Titans front office on Wednesday. Thursday will put him back in Seattle, where he saw success as the DC and architect of the famed Legion of Boom defense during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl title run a decade ago. Quinn will conclude his busy week with a trip to Washington, D.C. on Sunday.

There is no word yet on whether Quinn will move forward with the Chargers or Panthers. That could change his scheduling for the week

Tennessee is taking the next step with Panthers OC Thomas Brown and Bengals OC Brian Callahan, in addition to Quinn.

Seattle reportedly has four other candidates lined up for second interviews: Panthers DC Ejiro Evero, Raiders DC Patrick Graham, Giants OC Mike Kafka, and Rams DC Raheem Morris.

The Commanders are also inviting Morris back for an in-person talk, though more names could be added to the interview slates for any of those clubs as the hiring cycle rolls along.

The Cowboys are expected to bring Quinn back for a fourth season in Dallas if he does not accept a head coaching position elsewhere. During his end-of-season press conference last week, head coach Mike McCarthy called Quinn “a highly valued member of our staff,” despite a decline in the defense’s play over the last several games of the regular season and a downright poor performance in a stunning wild-card playoff loss to Green Bay.

Report: Cowboys DC Dan Quinn adds Seahawks to schedule for HC interview

From @ToddBrock24f7: The Dallas DC already has four interviews scheduled for the week; he would be widely considered a front-runner for the Seattle job.

It was widely expected for the better part of a week, and now it’s official. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will interview to be the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported via X (formerly Twitter) that Quinn will speak with his former team on Thursday afternoon about returning to take over for Pete Carroll. Carroll had been the Seahawks’ head coach for 14 seasons, including the years in which Quinn was his defensive coordinator and took Seattle to a Super Bowl title as the architect of the Legion of Boom defense.

Quinn will reportedly meet virtually with Carolina and Tennessee on Wednesday, Washington and Seattle on Thursday, and the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, with most observers assuming he will depart Dallas after three seasons as DC.

Quinn was head coach in Atlanta for five-plus seasons in between leaving Seattle and joining Mike McCarthy’s staff in Dallas. He took the Falcons to a Super Bowl during that time and has said he would be interested in another head coaching job.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

While Quinn authored a dramatic turnaround for the Cowboys defense upon his arrival and turned down head coaching gigs elsewhere to return to Dallas the past two offseasons, the team’s third straight postseason collapse has many assuming that there will be major changes coming at The Star.

Quinn’s quickly-filling interview slate certainly supports that theory.

Report: Cowboys DC Dan Quinn set to interview virtually with 4 clubs this week

From @ToddBrock24f7: Quinn will speak to Carolina and Tennessee about their HC openings on Wednesday, then the Commanders and Chargers to close out the week.

Dan Quinn has a busy week of prep coming up. Just not the kind he or Cowboys fans had been hoping for.

Following the team’s utter meltdown during Sunday’s wild-card loss to the No. 7-seeded Packers, Dallas’s defensive coordinator will not be crunching tape and devising coverage schemes for the Cowboys’ divisional-round foe. No, with his newly-found free time, Quinn will be interviewing with four other teams to be their new head coach.

Quinn will speak virtually with the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans on Wednesday of this week, according to NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. The 53-year-old will follow that up by meeting online with the Washington Commanders on Thursday and the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday.

Quinn is also predicted to be a strong candidate in Seattle, where he won a Super Bowl as defensive coordinator a decade ago.

League rules prohibit Quinn, as an employee of the Cowboys, from in-person interviews until after the conclusion of the divisional round of postseason games. But with Dallas having played in the wild-card round, Quinn may participate in virtual interviews between Tuesday and the end of Sunday’s games.

Despite conducting a massive turnaround for the Dallas defense since his arrival in 2021, Quinn’s stock with many Cowboys fans took a serious nosedive over the course of the 2023 season and especially after Sunday’s awful performance. Questionable coverages and soft overall play allowed Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love to carve up the Cowboys defense- in Arlington, no less- with three touchdowns and a nearly perfect passer rating (157.2) in his first-ever postseason appearance.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

Once a popular choice to take over for McCarthy in Dallas, Quinn is suddenly being looked at as part of the reason why the Cowboys were humiliated by a 48-32 score in a do-or-die game that wasn’t even that close.

A fanbase that recently pleaded to “protect Dan Quinn at all costs” may now not be all that sad to see one of his virtual interviews this week result in a defensive regime change on the Cowboys staff.

Colts hold second HC interview with Jeff Saturday

The Colts brought Jeff Saturday back for a second head coach interview.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to interview interim head coach Jeff Saturday a second time for their head coach vacancy Wednesday.

While Saturday is the least-qualified candidate for the role, it was expected that owner Jim Irsay would want him to be among the finalists. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Saturday’s interview is scheduled for Wednesday, and that the team is expected to interview seven finalists.

Saturday had an incredible playing career with the Colts, but his tenure as the interim head coach went about as poorly as possible. The team went 1-7 during the final eight games of the season while ending the campaign on a seven-game losing streak.

It has become clear through the process of the Colts searching for a new head coach that Saturday wouldn’t be on the list for general manager Chris Ballard. But Irsay’s involvement has made him a finalist.

Colts will hold second interview with Ejiro Evero

The Colts are bringing in Ejiro Evero for another head coach interview.

The Indianapolis Colts are beginning to narrow down their list of finalists for the head coach vacancy, and it seems Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is on that list.

Evero, 42, was one of the first candidates to interview virtually for the vacancy after the regular season ended. He’s been a hot candidate and has impressed in nearly every interview he’s had across the league.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Colts are bringing Evero in for another interview.

Specializing at the defensive back positions, Evero has held plenty of assistant roles throughout his coaching career. Recently, he spent four seasons working as the safeties coach for the Los Angeles Rams (2017-2020) as well as the secondary coach and passing game coordinator (2021).

Evero got his start in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2007-2009) as a defensive quality control coach. He then spent the five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers as a quality control coach (2011), offensive assistant (2012-2013) and defensive assistant (2014-2015).

Evero followed that up by going to the Green Bay Packers as a defensive quality control coach (2016) before landing the role with the Rams.

Report: Cowboys DC Dan Quinn to have second interview with Arizona

Quinn met virtually with the club on Saturday; he’ll reportedly be flown to Arizona for another meeting, this time in person. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cardinals are moving quickly on their interest in Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. As per a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the organization is flying Quinn to Arizona on Tuesday night for an in-person meeting about their head coaching vacancy.

It will be Quinn’s second interview regarding the job.

Quinn first spoke with the Cardinals virtually on Saturday about the position as he made final preparations for his Dallas defense to face the 49ers in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.

Several other candidates have already met with the Arizona front office, including current Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, former Colts head coach Frank Reich, and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

49ers DC DeMeco Ryans canceled a Sunday interview to focus on the team’s playoff match with Dallas. Steelers defensive assistant Brian Flores was to interview on Monday. Former Saints coach Sean Payton is scheduled to sit down with Arizona on Thursday. Broncos DC Ejiro Evero is also said to be in the mix.

Quinn is also seen as a strong candidate in Denver, where he interviewed last year; he conducted a virtual meeting with them on Friday.

Pelissero’s tweet also mentions the possibility of the Colts bringing Quinn to Indianapolis for a second interview with them sometime this week.

It is indeed a busy week for the Cowboys coaching staff, now freshly eliminated from the postseason. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore reportedly met with Carolina today about their head coaching position.

Several other Dallas assistants- offensive line coach Joe Philbin, running backs coach Skip Peete, quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier, defensive assistant George Edwards, and defensive line assistant Leon Lett- all saw their contracts expire with Sunday’s 19-12 playoff loss in San Francisco.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after the game that head coach Mike McCarthy’s job was safe.

DeMeco Ryans canceled head coach interview with Colts

DeMeco Ryans canceled his head coach interview with the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts were scheduled to interview San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans for their head coach vacancy before Sunday’s divisional playoff games, but he wound up canceling the meeting.

Ryans had already interviewed with the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos and was scheduled to interview with the Colts on Friday. However, he decided to cancel/postpone the interview in order to better focus on his team’s divisional playoff game, per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

It isn’t clear whether Ryans will interview with the Colts at a later date. If he does, it will have to wait. Because the 49ers are in the NFC championship game, teams cannot interview Ryans until after the game has concluded, regardless of the result.

Ryans is one of the hottest names on the market for teams looking for new head coaches. All but one of the teams searching for a head coach have requested to interview him.

The Colts have covered as much ground as possible throughout their search. They have interviewed 13 candidates (excluding Ben Johnson) with a wide variety of experience and specialties.

The Colts have said the search will take as long as it has to, which means they certainly could be willing to wait if they believe he’s a worthy candidate.

We can only wait and see if that will come to fruition but as the Colts head into their second round of interviews, Ryans won’t be on the initial list.

Colts complete head coach interview with Wink Martindale

The Colts completed their head coach interview with Giants DC Wink Martindale.

The Indianapolis Colts completed their head coach interview with New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, the team announced Sunday.

This was expected that Martindale would interview regardless of the outcome of the playoff game between the Giants and Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night.

Martindale is the 13th candidate to interview for the vacancy since the end of the regular season, and there’s still one more on the docket with San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans.

You can follow along for the latest updates with the head coach search via our tracker.

After coaching in the college ranks from 1986-2003, Martindale made the leap to the NFL by being hired as the linebackers coach for the Oakland Raiders, a role he held for five seasons (2004-2008). He held the same role when he joined the Denver Broncos (2009) while also spending one season as their defensive coordinator (2010).

Martindale then joined the Baltimore Ravens as their linebackers coach for six seasons (2012-2017) before taking on the defensive coordinator role for four seasons (2018-2021).

After his stint in Baltimore was concluded, Martindale was hired by Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen to be the defensive coordinator of the Giants.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Colts complete head coach interview with Mike Kafka

Colts completed their head coach interview with Giants OC Mike Kafka on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Colts completed their head coach interview with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, the team announced Sunday.

This was expected considering the reports from earlier in the week that the interview would be held Sunday regardless of how the Giants performed in the divisional playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night.

That game didn’t go as planned, of course, as the Giants were dominated 38-7 in the playoff loss. Kafka is the 12th candidate to complete an interview with two more on the docket in Wink Martindale and DeMeco Ryans.

You can follow along for the latest updates with the head coach search via our tracker.

Kafka, 35, is one of the youngest names in the coaching circle right now. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and only started coaching in the NFL in 2017.

He started coaching with the Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive quality control coach (2017). He then spent four seasons as the quarterbacks coach (2018-2021) while adding pass-game coordinator duties for his final two seasons in Kansas City (2020-2021).

After that, Kafka was hired by Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen to be the offensive coordinator of the Giants, a role he’s excelled in despite some of the personnel limitations.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Cowboys DC Dan Quinn gets interview request from Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals fired Kliff Kingsbury after four seasons and hired a new GM just last week. Quinn will join a crowded list of HC candidates. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn had a busy day on Friday, making final preparations for his defense to travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs, but also sitting down for job interviews with both the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts.

But he’ll need to get his suit back from the dry cleaners in a hurry, because he’s not done with it yet.

The Arizona Cardinals, who just hired a new general manager last week, have also put in a request to speak with Quinn about their head coaching vacancy, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Kliff Kingsbury had helmed the Cardinals for just four seasons.

The Cardinals were an 11-6 club and made the playoffs in 2021, but things fell apart for Kingsbury’s squad this past season. A host of injuries and erratic play on both sides of the ball led to a seven-game losing streak to end the season. Arizona won just one home game all year and finished last in their division with a 4-13 mark.

Kingsbury was relieved of his coaching duties the day after the regular season ended, and GM Steve Keim stepped down, with team owner Michael Bidwell saying it was “just time for a change.”

Citing an “incredible sense of urgency,” Bidwell also announced that he would prefer to have a new GM hired before a head coach was finalized. Monti Ossenfort was named the team’s new general manager on Jan. 16. He had been an executive in the Titans organization.

The Cardinals have already conducted interviews with the team’s current defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and former Colts head coach Frank Reich. Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is set to speak with the team on Saturday.

Arizona has also requested to meet with Broncos DC Ejiro Evero, former Saints coach Sean Payton, 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans, and Steelers defensive assistant Brian Flores.

No date for Quinn’s interview with the Cardinals has been scheduled as of yet.

The Cowboys are slated to play the Cardinals in Glendale during the 2023 season.
