New Mexico at Hawaii: Three things to know

  1. New Mexico’s season was delayed after COVID-19 concerns in Bernalillo County wiped out the original opener against Colorado State on Oct. 24. They opened on Halloween at San Jose State, falling 38-21 as 13.5-point underdogs. The Lobos were gashed for 588 total yards and 481 yards through the air.
  2. Hawaii marched past Fresno State in its first trip to the mainland, winning 34-19 on Oct. 24. Back-to-back trips were too much, as the Warriors were roughed up at Wyoming by a 31-7 count last Friday night, failing to cover as 2.5-point favorites. One thing which has been consistent, the Under is 2-0 in Hawaii’s two contests.
  3. In the past, we’ve expected the Warriors to throw the ball all over the field, but this season they have averaged just 169.5 passing yards per game while rolling up 223.0 rushing yards per outing to rank 14th in the nation.

New Mexico at Hawaii: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 38, New Mexico 20

Money line (ML)

Hawaii (-625) will cost you more than six times your potential return. While the Warriors are more than likely to win, especially on their home field, AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

HAWAII -15.5 (-110) is worth playing lightly, although the Warriors will likely need QB Chevan Cordeiro to ratchet up the pass game for the Warriors to be able to cover this spread.

We’ve seen it in the past, although head coach Todd Graham’s system is quite a bit different than the departed Nick Rolovich’s run-and-shoot offense. Graham likes to pound the ball more on the ground.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 62.5 (-106) is the play, as these aren’t your dad’s Hawaii Warriors. Heck, these aren’t even last year’s Hawaii Warriors. The Aloha Boys have opened with a pair of totals at 60 and over; they combined with Fresno State for 53 points on a 64.5-point line, and they combined for just 38 points last week at Wyoming with a 60-point line. They’re not coming close to hitting an Over. At home, we should see more points, but another Under is in the offing.
