Hawaii at UCLA odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Hawaii at UCLA matchup, with college football odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and UCLA Bruins begin the 2021 season Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawaii vs. UCLA odds and lines, and make our best college football picks, predictions and bets.

Hawaii heads to the mainland to kick off its 2021 season. The Warriors won just one of three regular-season trips to the mainland last season. Although, they did cap off their season with a win in the New Mexico Bowl against Houston.

UCLA has dropped nine consecutive non-conference games dating back to Sept. 9, 2017, going 1-8 ATS during the span. That last non-conference victory was against Hawaii, 56-23, at the Rose Bowl.

Hawaii at UCLA odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

UCLA 48, Hawaii 27

Money line

UCLA (-1000) hasn’t had a lot of success outside of the conference in recent years, but hope springs eternal in 2021. The Bruins are expected to take a big step forward this season under head coach Chip Kelly. Still, you can’t risk 10 times your potential return.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

The way to go is playing UCLA -17.5 (-112), despite its 1-8 ATS mark across the past nine non-conference outings. The Bruins have a tremendous one-two punch in RBs Brittain Brown and Zach Charbonnet, and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson should be able to roll up some big numbers against a Hawaii +17.5 (-108) defense that will be just so-so.

The Warriors should hang with the Bruins for the first half, but look for UCLA to pull away in the final 30 minutes.

Over/Under

The OVER 68.5 (-108) is the lean, although you likely will be sweating it out until the fourth quarter. UCLA’s DTR and Hawaii QB Chevan Cordeiro should put up big passing numbers to help Over bettors cash.

The Rainbow Warriors won four of their eight regular-season games, and they capped off the season with an impressive 28-14 win over Houston in their bowl game. The Warriors were 1-2 SU/ATS in three trips to the mainland in 2020.

The Bruins have managed a dismal 10-21 record so far under Chip Kelly, but they showed good signs of life in 2020. UCLA lost four games, but each of those losses were by six points or less.

New to college football betting?

The Bruins are moderate home favorites with an implied win probability of 87.50%. Their -700 money line odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/7 or a decimal of 1.142. UCLA will need to win by 18 or more points in order to cover the spread.

The Rainbow Warriors must lose by 17 or fewer points, or win outright, in order to cover the spread. Their +470 odds represent an implied win probability of 17.54%.

The Rainbow Warriors and Bruins must combine to score 69 or more points for a bet on the Over 68.5 to cash. A point total of 68 or fewer points is a win for the Under. The odds price the Under as the more likely result on the projected total.

Bowl season has arrived and one of the early bowl games is the New Mexico Bowl. It features the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (4-4) taking on the Houston Cougars (3-4) on Christmas Eve. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Below, we analyze the Hawaii-Houston college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Hawaii vs. Houston: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 4:55 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawaii +310 (bet $100 to win $310) | Houston -400 (bet $400 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawaii +10.5 (-110) | Houston -10.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 60.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hawaii vs. Houston: Three things to know

  • Hawaii head coach Todd Graham is 5-4 in bowl games and would get his 100th career win as coach with a victory. Houston head coach Dana Holgersen is 2-5 in bowl games in his career and 3-0 against Graham’s teams.
  • Hawaii averages 26 points per game and allows 29.2 points per game. Houston averages 32.3 points per game and allows 32.6 per contest.
  • This is only the third bowl game Hawaii has played away from the islands and first since 2008.

Hawaii vs. Houston: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 35, Houston 31

Money line (ML)

Both teams were middling during the season. Houston is very productive offensively, averaging 155.3 rushing yards and 268.1 passing yards per game. Hawaii gives up 231.5 rushing yards per game but only 190.6 yards per game through the air.

However, Hawaii moves the ball well and Houston gives up almost 420 yards per game. This should be a shootout and more or less a tossup. That will make the money line tough to bet.

But, because of the potential payout, taking HAWAII +310 is worth a wager as I anticipate a close game. It is not a high confidence pick, but it is worth the value.

Against the spread (ATS)

Hawaii was 3-5 ATS and Houston 3-4 ATS this season. With both teams with strong offenses and poor defenses, both teams should light up the scoreboard. Take HAWAII +10.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is high at 60.5 but Houston’s games average 64.9 points per game. Houston will be missing two top defenders in LB Grant Stuard and DL Payton Turner, both whom opted out of the game to prepare for he NFL draft. I anticipate a high-scoring game with both teams in the 30s. Take OVER 60.5 POINTS (-110).

UNLV at Hawaii odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UNLV Rebels at Hawaii Rainbow Warriors sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The UNLV Rebels (0-5, 0-5 MWC) travel to meet the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (3-4, 3-4) Saturday for an 11 p.m. ET kickoff in Honolulu at Aloha Stadium. Below, we analyze the UNLV-Hawaii college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

UNLV at Hawaii: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: UNLV +700 (bet $100 to win $700) | Hawaii -1200 (bet $1,200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: UNLV +18 (-110) | Hawaii -18 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

UNLV at Hawaii: Three things to know

  1. The Rebels have been a disaster so far this season, losing each of their five outings by at least 13 points. That includes a 45-14 beatdown at home from Wyoming. So far they’re 0-4-1 ATS, and they have allowed at least 34 points in every outing to date.
  2. It has been a mixed bag for Hawaii this season, as they have had some glimpses of brilliance, and a few ugly showings, too. They topped Nevada 24-21 in the islands on Nov. 28, winning outright as seven-point ‘dogs, but also have an ugly 34-10 loss at San Diego State on Nov. 14, and a 31-7 loss at Wyoming on Oct. 30. The offense has been much more consistent of late, however, averaging 26.7 PPG over the past three.
  3. The favorite has connected in four of the past five meetings in this series, with the Over hitting in four of the previous five head-to-head battles in the islands.

UNLV at Hawaii: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 38, UNLV 13

Money line (ML)

Hawaii (-1200) will cost you 12 times your potential return, which means a $100 wager would net a profit of just $8.33. That’s not a smart decision. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

HAWAII -18 (-110) is worth a roll of the dice against the number, as the offense has looked much better in recent weeks. UNLV +18 (-110) has been disjointed all season, and it’s hard to imagine them hanging with the high-octane Rainbow Warriors for 60 minutes. The Rebels just want to get this season over with at this point.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 58.5 (-110) is the play in this one. The only concern is UNLV’s defense, and if they can stop Hawaii’s offense. But the Rainbow Warriors haven’t been as prolific as in recent seasons.

Still, UNLV yields 38.0 PPG, ranking 116th in the country, and they have been trampled in the run game, coughing up 250.4 yards per outing on the ground. Go lightly on the Under.

Nevada at Hawaii: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 9:20 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Nevada -264 (bet $264 to win $100) | Hawaii +210 (bet $100 to win $210)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Nevada -7 (-115) | Hawaii +7 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 60.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Nevada at Hawaii: Three things to know

  1. Nevada posted a 26-21 win at home over San Diego State in a nationally-televised game in Reno, as the Wolf Pack managed to stay unbeaten. They’re 2-0 straight up and 1-1 ATS in two games away from home, averaging 32.0 points per game while allowing 19.5 PPG.
  2. Hawaii hung tough with Boise State last week in the islands, eventually falling 40-32 while covering a 12-point number. The Rainbow Warriors picked up the backdoor cover by outscoring the Broncos 15-0 in the fourth quarter.
  3. Hawaii is transitioning away from the run-and-shoot attack of former coach Nick Rolovich to a more balanced attack under new head man Todd Graham. The results have been mixed; however, they’re a lot better at home with an average of 35.5 PPG.

Nevada at Hawaii: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 41, Nevada 38

Money line (ML)

HAWAII (+210) is worth playing at home, as Nevada is in a trap situation. It’s coming off a huge victory in Reno last week, and a trip to the islands the following week is a tough place to maintain the intensity. Look for the Rainbow Warriors to deal the Wolf Pack their first setback.

Against the spread (ATS)

HAWAII +7 (-106) is just 2-6 ATS in the past eight meetings against the Wolf Pack, but the good news is the underdog is 4-0 ATS in the past four in this series. The Rainbow Warriors have been a bit erratic this season, but you can expect QB Chevan Cordeiro to hang in a shootout with Nevada QB Carson Strong. This one is going to be fun.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 60.5 (-115) is the best bet here, as this one has the makings of a track meet. We have two quarterbacks that can fill up the stat sheet, and they’re a couple of guys brimming with confidence at the moment. Nevada is averaging 32.2 PPG, but it hasn’t hit an Over since Week 1 against Wyoming.

Boise State at Hawaii odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Boise State Broncos at Hawaii Rainbows sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Boise State Broncos (3-1 overall, 3-0 Mountain West) visit the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-2, 2-2) Saturday for an 11 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Boise State-Hawaii college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Boise State at Hawaii: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Boise State -589 (bet $589 to win $100) | Hawaii +425 (bet $100 to win $425)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boise State -13.5 (-115) | Hawaii +13.5 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 57.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Boise State at Hawaii: Three things to know

  1. The Broncos are averaging just 377.5 total yards per game to rank 78th in the country, and only 125.0 rushing YPG to check in 101st. Still, they have managed 40.0 PPG, good for 19th overall.
  2. Boise State’s defense has been so-so. The Broncos are tremendous against the pass, yielding just 174.3 YPG to rank ninth in the nation, but they have been shredded for 219.8 rushing YPG game, ranking just 107th. Hawaii’s defense is also strong against the pass, ranking fifth overall with 162.8 YPG allowed, but it is a dismal 121st with 251.5 rushing YPG allowed.
  3. The Broncos have cashed in each of the previous seven meetings in this series, and they’re 5-2 ATS in the past seven trips to the islands. The Over is also 5-1 in the past six meetings in Honolulu.

Boise State at Hawaii: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Boise State 41, Hawaii 24

Money line (ML)

Boise State (-589) will cost you nearly six times your potential return. That’s extremely risky betting behavior playing a team like that on the road, especially in a lengthy travel game to the islands. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

BOISE STATE -13.5 (-115) is the lean in this one, but play very lightly. The Broncos looked more like themselves last week, throttling Colorado State 52-21. QB Hank Bachmeier was back to his regular form, and he had his full cadre of receivers with WRs Khalil Shakir and CT Thomas. RB George Holani continues to rehab from an MCL injury, and he is a question mark for this one, but the Broncos should do enough to win by at least two touchdowns with or without him.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 57.5 (-115) is your best bet in this Mountain West matchup as the Broncos have the potential to come close to hitting the total themselves when they’re on. Hawaii has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season, as it might have been a bit weary heading to the mainland for three of the first four games. The Rainbows scored a season-high 39 points in their only game at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium this season on Nov. 7 against New Mexico, so expect a better offensive showing from the home side, too.

Hawaii at San Diego State odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at San Diego State Aztecs sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-1, 2-1 MWC) and San Diego State Aztecs (2-1, 2-1) meet in the SDCCU Stadium for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday. Below, we analyze the Hawaii-San Diego State college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Hawaii at San Diego State: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawaii +305 (bet $100 to win $305) | San Diego State -400 (bet $400 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawaii +11.5 (-115) | San Diego State -11.5 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 52.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hawaii at San Diego State: Three things to know

  1. Hawaii bounced back from a 31-7 beatdown on the mainland at Wyoming on Oct. 30 to top New Mexico 39-33 in its home opener last Saturday. However, they failed to cover for the second consecutive weekend, although the Over cashed for the first time thanks to a season-high 39 points.
  2. Head coach Todd Graham took over for Nick Rolovich this season, and the latter employed the run-and-shoot offense. Graham used a more ground-based attack in the first two games, but harkened back to that pass-first mentality vs. UNM, as QB Chevan Cordeiro slung it 43 times for 410 yards and four passing touchdowns and one rushing score.
  3. San Diego State was dominant in the first two games, outscoring the opponent 36.0 PPG to 6.5 PPG against UNLV and at Utah State. However, the Aztecs were on the short end of a 28-17 loss to visiting San Jose State last week, blowing a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Aztecs also turned it over three times which did not help.

Hawaii at San Diego State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

San Diego State 34, Hawaii 24

Money line (ML)

San Diego State (-400) is a risky play at home, especially coming off of a stunning loss at home against San Jose State as 10-point favorites. Hawaii (+305) is always a threat because of its ability to strike quickly, too. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

HAWAII +11.5 (-115) got back to basics, as Graham went to a more pass-happy attack after New Mexico fired out to a first-quarter lead. While Graham might be more of a run-first coach, he has a pass-first personnel group and that’s what should work better. Cordeiro is the next great Hawaii quarterback, and he can do enough to keep the Warriors in any game.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 52.5 (-115) is a good bet, assuming the Warriors stick with the pass. They hit their first Over result last week, and they have posted 34 or more points in two of three so far. The Aztecs are averaging 29.7 PPG through three games and should get back on track if they can take better care of the ball, something they didn’t do against the Spartans last week.
