Clemson Goalie, Halle Mackiewicz, named ACC DPOTW

Halle Mackiewicz named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

The ACC announced on Tuesday Halle Mackiewicz has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

This comes after she recorded a shutout against No. 7 Arkansas and helped lead the Tigers to a draw against Georgia.

The starting goalkeeper helped the No. 9 Tigers secure a 1-0 victory over the No. 7 Razorbacks, which marked the highest-ranked win at home since the Tigers beat No. 6 Notre Dame in 2022.

On the road, Mackiewicz and the Tigers earned a 1-1 draw over Georgia as Clemson was able to level the score in Athens in the 69’. Mackiewicz wrapped up the week with six saves and only one goal allowed.

Mackiewicz has had an impressive start to the 2023 season as the senior has picked up six clean sheets, which ties her for most in the NCAA alongside Samford’s Zoe Clevely.

Mackiewicz has tallied 16 total clean sheets in her career, the fourth most in Tiger history.

Clemson moves up to No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings for week four

After defeating Arkansas and tying Georgia, Clemson moves up to No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings for week four, as announced on Tuesday.

The Tigers started the season ranked no. 25 but they have been climbing up the rankings every week.

After the first week, they moved up to the 19th position and then jumped to No. 11 after the second week. In week three, Clemson broke into the top 10 and earned the No. 9 ranking. The Tigers are still among the top teams in the rankings and now hold the No. 8 spot in week four.

Halle Mackiewicz, the senior goalkeeper, earned her first-ever ACC Defensive Player of the Week award due to her impressive performance this season. Mackiewicz leads the nation in shutouts (6) along with another goalkeeper and is ranked sixth in the NCAA for save percentage (.941).

Senior Makenna Morris leads the team in points with 12, while freshman Jenna Tobia threw the most dimes, with a team-leading seven assists.

The team’s leading goal scorers are graduate Sami Meredith and Morris, both having scored four goals so far this season.

The Tigers finished non-conference with a 6-0-2 record. They play No. 4 Florida State on Friday at 4 p.m. in a Top-10 match at Riggs Field. Streamed on ACCNX.
