The Grizzlies at (+155) will be a popular underdog as the No. 2 seed takes to the road, but the Lakers were 5-1 in their last 6 home games. I would pass there as well.

Against the spread

BET LAKERS -4.5 (-115).

The comments between F Dillon Brooks and James should light a fire under the future 1st-ballot Hall of Famer, and the Grizzlies got one of the best games of Tillman’s career, which is unlikely to be repeated.

Memphis was just 6-12 against the spread (ATS) as an underdog this season as well, so it hasn’t performed well when not considered the better side. The Lakers were 3-2 ATS over their last 5 regular-season home games.

Lastly, both games ended with the winning team being up double figures, so they haven’t ended up close down the stretch yet, making the spread easier to get behind than a juiced moneyline.

Money line

PASS with a “lean” towards the Grizzlies (+130) because I “lean” Memphis plus the points in this spot and generally will sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover.

However, given the unknown surrounding Memphis’s injury report—specifically Morant’s status—and how hot LeBron has been lately, I’d rather just take the points with the Grizzlies.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the GRIZZLIES +3.5 (-108), which I’d upgrade to a “like” if Morant and/or Brooks are available for this contest.

It would probably be best to wait until the official starting 5’s of both teams are announced before making a wager.

That said, Memphis has two strength-on-weakness edges in its favor in the ball security and rebounding departments.

For instance, the Grizzlies have the sixth-highest defensive turnover rate and the best offensive rebounding rate. Whereas the Lakers are 22nd in offensive turnover rate and 24th in defensive rebounding rate.

Furthermore, Memphis scores the fifth-most points off of turnovers and the fourth-most second-chance points per game. While L.A. gives up the seventh-most points off of turnovers and the seventh-most second-chance points per game.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 225.5 (-115) since L.A. plays at the fastest pace in the NBA and Memphis plays at the 11th-fastest pace. Also, the Lakers are 15-9 O/U in L.A. and have gone Over the total in six of their last seven as a favorite.

The Lakers got drubbed in their first two games and both were more lopsided affairs than the final score indicates. L.A. got rolled by the Phoenix Suns 115-105 as a 2-point home favorite Friday and was beaten 121-114 by the Golden State Warriors in its season-opener Tuesday.

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the GRIZZLIES (+165) for a tiny wager only because I love Memphis getting points in this spot.

At best, the Lakers need time to incorporate their new pieces with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. At worst, this was a poorly built team that’s going to struggle to make the playoff play-in tournament.

I lean towards the latter because the Lakers failed to surround LeBron with 3-point specialists this offseason and this roster has a very low defensive ceiling as currently built. L.A. needs AD to become the best defensive player in the Association.

Maybe this is an overreaction but I don’t like what I’m seeing in “LaLa Land” especially after watching the Suns-Lakers game Friday.

AD and first-year Lakers big Dwight Howard got into a minor altercation on the bench Friday, Lakers’ returnee Rajon Rondo had a back-and-forth with a fan courtside and LeBron was chirping with Suns backup PG Cameron Payne.

This is all narrative and LeBron feeds off naysayers in the media. However, I’m buying stock in Memphis and there’s a solid chance a GRIZZLIES (+165) ticket cashes Sunday night.

Against the spread

Definitely BET GRIZZLIES +4.5 (-102) heavier than or instead of Memphis’s money line.

There’s no one on the Lakers that can stay in front of Morant. He’s going to get into the mid-range or to the basket and collapse L.A.’s defense all game long.

We also have “reverse line movement” (RLM) in the betting market, according to Pregame.com. More than 75% of the money wagered is on the Lakers at the time of publishing, but L.A. has been reduced from a 6.5-point favorite to the current price.

It makes sense that one of the most popular teams in American sports with LeBron would be heavily bet. What doesn’t make sense is why the sportsbooks are making the more popular side cheaper. Well, it kind of makes sense. The RLM tells me the House wants more pro-Lakers bets.

GRIZZLIES +4.5 (-102) is my favorite play in this game.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 224.5 (-108) because this Lakers offense is really disorganized thus far. LeBron and AD have looked awesome through two games but the Lakers essentially waved the white flag mid-way through the fourth quarter of both losses.

However, there’s been sharp line movement towards the Over and the total is up from the 221-point opener. I’d rather just hammer the Memphis sides than play the total in this contest.

PASS on the money line as the Lakers have played in three-straight overtime games. Without knowing the status of Davis, there just isn’t enough value for the Lakers, but it’s tough to bet on the 10-10 Grizzlies.

Instead, look at the spread as it provides a better bet on Memphis.

Against the spread (ATS)

The GRIZZLIES +7.5 (-110) are a good bet in this game considering how poorly the Lakers have played of late. Despite winning six-straight games, the Lakers are just 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games and have let the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons, take them to overtime in recent contests.

While we aren’t sure Memphis will win this game, we feel confident they can stay within 7 points and keep this one close.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 220.5 (-110) is the smart play as both offenses are averaging over 110 points per game this season. Los Angeles has the fifth-ranked scoring offense at home this year, scoring nearly 118 points per game.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are allowing 110.9 points per game, which is good for 10th in the NBA. Both squads have an above-average defense, but the scoring shouldn’t be a problem for either team.

Look for each team to score into the 110s and for the Over to hit.
