Dan Lanning made a new addition to his coaching staff this week, bringing Greg Jones from Kansas City to Eugene to join the Oregon Ducks.

Jones has been the head coach at Liberty North for the past five years, where he went 39-19 including a Class 6 State runner-up finish in 2021.

It may seem a little out of the blue for Lanning to pull a high school coach from KC up to the Pacific Northwest, but it makes sense when you consider the number of ties that Oregon’s new coach has to the area. Lanning grew up in the North Kansas City area and played college football at William Jewell from 2004 to 2007.

It’s not yet clear what coaching role Jones will fill with the Ducks, but he is expected to have an impact on the recruiting efforts, especially when it comes to the budding area of Kansas City. Jones was the coach of one of the best schools in the area and has ties throughout the region.
