The Misfits Boxing event scheduled for Saturday in Austin, Texas has a new main event, but a little UFC flare remains.

With former UFC champion Vitor Belfort out, former UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy has stepped in to fight Hasim Rahman Jr., in a four-round bout, the promotion announced Tuesday.

Rahman (12-1, 6 KOs) weighed 100 pounds less than Hardy (1-0, 1 KO) in their most recent bouts – 224¼ pounds, compared to 324½.

The show will be streamed on DAZN.

Belfort’s withdrawal was first reported by MMA Fighting. It is unclear at this time why Belfort withdrew.

Hardy, 34, made his professional boxing debut in October, when he defeated Michael Cook by a second-round TKO. Hardy went into boxing on the heels of his departure from the UFC in March, following the conclusion of his contract.

Prior to his UFC stint, Hardy was a Pro Bowl defensive end in the NFL. His career was riddled with controversies, including charges of domestic violence.

Rahman enters the bout off his first career loss, a fifth-round TKO against James McKenzie Morrison in April.

He was booked to fight Jake Paul at Madison Square Garden in August. However, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions canceled the event when it claimed Rahman did not intend to make the agreed-upon weight. After the cancelation, Rahman Jr. held his own unofficial weigh-in to prove a point but still missed his scheduled mark by 1.6 pounds.

Ben Rothwell sees Greg Hardy fight as ‘inevitable’ in BKFC: ‘A lot of people are interested’

Ben Rothwell expects to be fighting Greg Hardy sooner or later.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – [autotag]Ben Rothwell[/autotag] expects to be fighting [autotag]Greg Hardy[/autotag] sooner or later.

The former UFC heavyweight contender now bareknuckle boxer believes a fight with Hardy is bound to happen now that it was recently announced that fellow former UFC fighter Hardy had also joined the BKFC roster. Rothwell is eager to get booked for his debut and is also looking forward to testing his hands against all heavyweights, including Hardy.

“Certainly, a lot of people are interested in that and are saying it,” Hardy told MMA Junkie when asked about a potential fight with the former NFL star. “I don’t know when that’s going to happen, maybe the next fight, but it’s inevitable, I’m sure. My plan is to fight all these guys, so fight as many times as I can.”

Rothwell’s ultimate goal in BKFC is to challenge and win the heavyweight title. At the moment, Arnold Adams holds the belt in the division. Rothwell sees a formidable challenge in Adams, but feels comfortable he can get the job done.

“He’s a big guy, knows how to fight, and should be a great fight if we get to fight each other,” Rothwell said. “But first and foremost, I have to take this first fight and put some exciting wins together. I believe if I go on and do that, it will come, the title shot will come, and I’ll take care of business.”

Former NFL standout, ex-UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy signs with BKFC

Greg Hardy’s post-UFC career has taken another turn. After adding boxing to his upcoming resume, now he’s signed with BKFC.

[autotag]Greg Hardy[/autotag]’s post-UFC career has taken another turn.

After signing for his professional boxing debut earlier this month, Hardy also will compete in the bareknuckle boxing world. BKFC announced a deal with the 6-foot-5 big man Wednesday.

No terms of the deal were announced, nor were a debut date or opponent.

“I’m excited to start working with Greg,” BKFC president Dave Feldman stated. He’s a tremendous athlete with quickness and incredible strength, as he’s shown in the UFC and NFL. He wants to test himself in bareknuckle and has been training for a fight for the last couple of months. Heavyweight is one of our deepest divisions and his skill set fits right in. We’ll announce the date, location and his opponent shortly.”

The 33-year-old Hardy was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2010 after a standout college career at Mississippi. The end of his career with the Panthers was marred by a domestic violence accusation and investigation, and the team ultimately parted ways with him.

Hardy signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, but was there for just one season – including a suspension for the domestic violence charges – which ultimately were expunged from his record.

In 2016, Hardy announced he was going to start an MMA career. His pro debut came on Dana White’s Contender series in 2018, and he picked up two first-round knockout wins under that banner. In January 2019, he made his UFC debut, but lost by disqualification from an illegal knee.

He had ups and downs in the UFC with three knockout wins against Dmitry Smolyakov, Juan Adams and Maurice Greene, and a decision over Yorgan De Castro. But he fizzled out with three straight knockout losses over a 15-month stretch to Marcin Tybura, Tai Tuivasa and, most recently, Serghei Spivac in March.

The UFC let him go after that, and now he’ll try to revive his combat sports career with BKFC.

“I’m back and ready to knock everyone out in the baddest promotion there is,” Hardy stated. “Everyone knows I can knock people out, and that’s what I’m planning on doing. I can’t wait to take the gloves off and rumble for BKFC.”

Former NFL player, UFC fighter Greg Hardy set for professional boxing debut

After stops in the NFL and UFC, Greg Hardy will test the waters in the ranks of professional boxing.

MMA is on hold, but [autotag]Greg Hardy[/autotag] fights on.

A former NFL and UFC athlete, Hardy will make his professional boxing debut Oct. 8 for Black Sheep Boxing promotions in Delray Beach, Fla. The opponent and number of rounds have not been announced at this time.

Hardy, 33, is a former NFL standout who entered the world of mixed martial arts in 2017. After a 3-0 tenure as an amateur, Hardy turned professional on the inaugural episode of Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 2. He defeated fellow NFL alum Austen Lane via TKO in 57 seconds and earned himself a UFC developmental contract.

Less than two months later, he returned to DWCS and defeated Tebaris Gordon via TKO in 17 seconds. Following one more professional win, under the Xtreme Fight Night banner, Hardy signed a UFC contract. Hardy’s UFC signing was met with criticism due to past accusations of domestic violence.

After some initial success with a 4-2 start to his UFC tenure, Hardy struggled to succeed with an increased level of opposition. The UFC elected not to re-sign Hardy following his TKO loss to Serghei Spivac on March 5. The defeat was his third in a row via first-round TKO. He departed the UFC with a 4-5 promotional record.

‘What a run’: Greg Hardy indicates UFC tenure is over after finishing contract

Greg Hardy is appreciative of his time in the UFC, which appears to be over.

[autotag]Greg Hardy[/autotag] is appreciative of his time in the UFC, which appears to be over.

Hardy fought out his contract last week at UFC 272, losing to Serghei Spivac by first-round TKO to drop his third consecutive bout. Whether or not that was the last time he competes in the octagon hasn’t been officially decided, but Hardy indicated it was in an Instagram post on Saturday.

“What a run, ya boy is far from done just got some fine tuning to do. Thank you to all my fans and haters. I appreciate you all. Mostly i appreciate my coaches, family, and the @ufc for giving me the opportunity to shine bright,” Hardy wrote.

If this is the end for Hardy in the UFC, the 33-year-old exits with a sub-.500 record in the promotion after 10 fights, going 4-5 with one no contest. Hardy spent most of his UFC tenure training out of American Top Team before recently shifting to the reformed Blackzilians with UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans.

Hardy, a former NFL All-Pro pass rusher, signed with the UFC in 2018 after going 3-0 as an amateur. He competed three times, including twice on Dana White’s Contender Series, before being called up to the main roster.
