Jayden Daniels wore a shirt honoring Greg Brooks Jr. during warmups on Saturday

LSU will be wearing helmet decals on Saturday night in honor of defensive back [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag], but quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] also took it upon himself to make a personal gesture.

During pregame warmups ahead of the Tigers home game against Arkansas, Daniels was spotted wearing a shirt honoring Brooks.

Brooks, a transfer from Arkansas and two-year starter with the Tigers, missed last week’s game against Mississippi State with what was only called a medical emergency.

Later, it was announced that Brooks underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. The Tigers are dedicating this game to Brooks, and Arkansas coach Sam Pittman has also offered his support to Brooks and his family this week.

The Tigers take on the Razorbacks at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday night.

LOOK: LSU reveals No. 3 helmet decal honoring Greg Brooks Jr. vs. Arkansas

LSU will be wearing the decals in honor of defensive back Greg Brooks Jr., who underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor last week.

Saturday’s home game against Arkansas will be an emotional one for LSU.

The Tigers are playing the game in honor of defensive back [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag], who also previously played for the Razorbacks. Brooks underwent surgery last week to remove a brain tumor, according to coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and a statement from Brooks’ family.

LSU announced on Thursday that the team will be wearing No. 3 stickers on its helmets in Saturday night’s game to honor Brooks, and on Friday, the team revealed what the decal will look like for the game against Arkansas, which kicks off on Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT.

Brooks missed last week’s Mississippi State game with what Kelly only called a “medical emergency” at the time. However, we later learned that Brooks ultimately underwent emergency surgery on Friday night.

He had apparently been dealing with vertigo during the offseason, and after another bout in practice last Wednesday, he underwent an MRI.

The Tigers dedicated last week’s win over the Bulldogs to Brooks, and they’ll look to win another in his honor as their teammate faces a fight that’s greater than football.

LSU set to wear helmet stickers to honor Greg Brooks Jr. vs. Arkansas

LSU will wear helmet stickers in support of Greg Brooks Jr. on Saturday night.

LSU’s helmets will look a little different on Saturday night as the team will don No. 3 stickers in support of [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag]

Brooks missed the Mississippi State game in what [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] later described as a “medical emergency.”

Later in the week, the Brooks family put out a statement.

“Greg Jr. was diagnosed last week with a large brain tumor that required emergency surgery. Doctors successfully performed the procedure Friday to remove the mass,” the statement read.

Kelly made the announcement about the helmet stickers on his radio show Thursday night.

LSU will face Brooks’ former team, the Arkansas Razorbacks.

[autotag]Ryan Clark[/autotag], a former LSU safety himself, shared this on social media after visiting Brooks in the hospital.

“Know that this man has zero quit in him,” Clark wrote.

Kelly added that Brooks was able to stand up on Thursday and that he planned to visit Brooks after the conclusion of his radio show.

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman says he ‘certainly would’ do anything to support Greg Brooks Jr.

Sam Pittman offered his support to his former player after Greg Brooks Jr. underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor.

It’s sure to be an emotional night in Death Valley for both sides on Saturday.

LSU will be without starting nickel [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] when it faces Arkansas at Tiger Stadium after he underwent surgery last Friday to remove a brain tumor. Brooks, who previously played with the Razorbacks for three seasons, will certainly be on the minds of both teams.

In the wake of Brooks’ diagnosis, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said he would do anything in his power to help the player he previously coached.

“If it’s at all possible, if I thought that it would help him, I certainly would,” Pittman said, per On3. “Would do a lot of things.”

Pittman said he would like to meet with Brooks’ family, though he’s unsure if it would be allowed by NCAA rules limiting contact between coaches and opposing players.

“I can’t really answer that right now because I haven’t spoke with coach (Brian) Kelly,” Pittman said. “I want to make sure that, I don’t want to overstep any type of boundaries there and things of that nature. I want to have high respect for him and their program as well.

“At this moment I don’t have plans to see him, but I’m not telling you that we haven’t talked about it and that it’s not in the works, as well.”

As far as the team as a whole goes, Pittman said the team would compete in honor of Brooks, as LSU did last week in the win over Mississippi State.

“It’s amazing, you have to continue to play hard, you have to play in honor just like LSU did last week, in honor of Greg, and there’s certainly a big part of that on our team,” Pittman said, per On3. “We’re very competitive, we want to win, we want to do all that, but tragedy’s put in our life we have to honor those times and that’s what we’re going to do.

“But he was a wonderful teammate here and I could not think of one negative thing to say about him or his family. So it’s tough, our kids know it as well, but all we can do is represent him in the way that we play.”

LSU will face Arkansas on Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge.

LSU’s Greg Brooks Jr. underwent emergency surgery to remove brain tumor, Brian Kelly says

“Greg continues to fight, and we await further clarity on the extent of that battle,” Greg Brooks Jr.’s family said in a statement.

LSU defensive back [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] underwent emergency surgery Friday to remove a “large brain tumor,” coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference.

Brooks had apparently been dealing with vertigo during the preseason, and after another episode of dizziness last Wednesday, the team decided to get an MRI for Brooks, which revealed the tumor.

Kelly said that it remains too early to know whether Brooks will be able to return to the field this season.

Brooks was a surprise scratch from the Mississippi State game on Saturday. Kelly declined to go into detail at the time, only referring to Brooks’ unavailability as being due to a medical emergency.

“Greg Jr. was diagnosed last week with a large brain tumor that required emergency surgery,” Brooks’ family said in a statement. “Doctors successfully performed the procedure Friday to remove the mass, and we are awaiting biopsy results.

“Greg continues to fight, and we await further clarity on the extent of that battle. His incredible strength of character gives us confidence, but we also know that he needs our support now more than ever. Please keep Greg and our family in your prayers.”

We join the rest of the LSU community in wishing Brooks a speedy and successful recovery.

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman shares kind words for LSU’s Greg Brooks Jr.

Sam Pittman offered words of support to his former player.

LSU will be without veteran safety [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] for a second straight game on Saturday as he continues to deal with what [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] described as a “medical emergency.”

Kelly has refrained from offering any more details out of respect for Brooks and his family.

Following the win on Saturday, Kelly dedicated the game ball to Brooks. LSU football later posted a video showing Kelly’s pregame speech followed up with the dedication.

Brooks transferred from Arkansas after the 2021 season. He spent three years with the Razorbacks, including two with current Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman.

Pittman opened his Monday press conference with some words for Brooks.

“Greg was a wonderful kid when he was here and did a great job for us,” Pittman said. “I want him and his family and LSU to know that we’re concerned, we’re praying for him.”

LSU is set to face Arkansas at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday night.

Brian Kelly updates injury report for LSU entering Arkansas week

LSU received a mostly positive injury update from Brian Kelly on Monday.

LSU was without several key players on Saturday against Mississippi State. Their absences didn’t prove too costly in an easy 41-14 win, but in what could be a tougher test against Arkansas next weekend, the Tigers need to get those players back.

Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] offered some positive news in that regard on Monday. Linebacker [autotag]Omar Speights[/autotag], JACK [autotag]Ovie Oghoufo[/autotag] and tight end [autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag] all missed the game against the Bulldogs, but the trio all received “probable” designations from Kelly entering the week.

One player the Tigers won’t have is starting nickel [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag], who missed the game against Mississippi State with a “medical emergency.” Kelly didn’t go into much detail on Brooks’ status Monday beyond saying that he won’t be available against the Razorbacks this week.

LSU will look to start its SEC slate 2-0 as it returns home to host Arkansas with several key players hopefully back in the fold.

Greg Brooks Jr. out for Arkansas game, Brian Kelly says

Greg Brooks Jr. was unavailable against Mississippi State with what Brian Kelly called a “medical emergency” after the game.

LSU will be without starting nickel [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] when it hosts Arkansas in Week 4 on Saturday, coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said Monday.

Brooks was not with the team during Saturday’s 41-14 win over Mississippi State as he is dealing with what Kelly referred to after the game as a “medical emergency.”

Speaking to the media Monday, Kelly couldn’t provide many details about Brooks’ condition other than to say he will not be available when the Tigers take on the Razorbacks.

“I don’t have a lot that I can report on Greg, it is a family matter so I am not going to speak on the family’s behalf,” Kelly said. “If there’s anything I can get to you further after I speak with the family, we’ll certainly give you the information. But Greg is dealing with a medical emergency, and he will not be available.”

Without Brooks, LSU started transfer [autotag]Andre Sam[/autotag] at safety with [autotag]Sage Ryan[/autotag] and true freshman [autotag]Ryan Yaites[/autotag] seeing reps at nickel. That dynamic will likely continue into the near future with Brooks’ status unclear.

Brian Kelly provides injury updates after Mississippi State win

LSU was without a few pieces on Saturday when the Tigers took on Mississippi State.

LSU was without a few pieces on Saturday when the Tigers took on Mississippi State. It did not matter much as far as that game was concerned, but it could be an issue in the grand scheme of things.

[autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag], [autotag]Omar Speights[/autotag], [autotag]Ovie Oghoufo[/autotag] and [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] were all absent from the game. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] was asked postgame about the latest updates for those guys.

“So we weren’t sure, Mason Taylor went through pregame and he just wasn’t 100%, so we held him,” Kelly said. “Ovie Thursday turns an ankle in pass rush and, you know, we really couldn’t get him healthy to hold the edge. He did some stuff as the punt captain, you know, he handles the cadence and and the block rules. So we kept him in on punts but he really couldn’t help us on defense. And, you know, Omar was out with the hip flexor.

“So we had a lot of guys down and we just found out about Greg, had a medical emergency and you know, our thoughts and prayers are with Greg and you know, that was tough on two guys and tough on all of us.”

With the way the game went, a bunch of young players got to play anyway which is a great thing for their experience and to keep the starters rested.

Even without those three key pieces, the Tigers still put a beatdown on Mississippi State as [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] had the best game of both of their careers.

Greg Brooks Jr. missed Mississippi State game due to medical emergency, Brian Kelly said

Greg Brooks Jr. missed the game Saturday due to an unspecified medical emergency, per Brian Kelly.

Shortly before LSU kicked off its Week 3 game on Saturday against Mississippi State, [autotag]Greg Brooks Jr.[/autotag] was announced as a surprising scratch despite not being listed on the injury report during the week.

The starting nickel was unavailable due to a medical emergency, coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said after the game. Kelly reportedly did not go into detail about what caused the emergency.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Greg,” Kelly said.

Despite missing two key defensive starters on Saturday in Brooks and linebacker [autotag]Omar Speights[/autotag], the Tigers delivered a dominating performance against the Bulldogs in a 41-14 win in which they allowed just 201 yards of offense.

We will keep you updated on LSU Wire regarding any news about Brooks’ status moving forward.
