MSU hockey defeats Ferris State, to face Michigan Tech in GLI championship

MSU is heading to the GLI championship after defeating Ferris State:

The Great Lakes Invitational has begun and Michigan State is looking to capture their first championship in the event since 2009. The Spartans took the first step in doing that on Thursday night.

Michigan State matched up with Ferris State inside of Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena. The Spartans were able to defeat the Bulldogs, 5-1, en route to a championship game appearance against Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon.

Michigan State hockey defenseman David Gucciardi wins Big Ten first star of the week

MSU d-man David Gucciardi was named the Big Ten’s first star of the week!

Michigan State’s hockey program is filled with young talent that is now starting to gel together. The Spartans are off to an 11-8-1 start and only building momentum.

Freshman defenseman David Gucciardi showed Spartan Nation what they have to be excited about as it regards to the Spartans future on the ice. Gucciardi was named this past week’s Big Ten First Star of the Week for his performance in the Great Lakes Invitational for the Spartans.

The Spartans fell to No. 3 ranked Western Michigan, but beat No. 20 ranked Michigan Tech last week. In those games, Gucciardi scored 3 of the Spartans 4 goals, earning him this honor.
