Bobby Wagner: Vast majority of NFL teammates want to play on grass

When Bobby Wagner speaks, the people listen.

When Bobby Wagner speaks, the people listen. Before Seahawks practice began on Wednesday, the greatest linebacker of our generation reportedly made an unprecedented passionate speech to the entire team – including the practice squad. Time will tell whether the group takes it to heart and uses that motivation to beat the Lions in a must-win game on Sunday.

Wagner shared his thoughts on other topics yesterday as well, though. After practice the subject of the NFLPA demanding that every team adopt natural grass came up. This comes in the wake of the season-ending Achilles tear to Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered the injury just four snaps into his New York debut on MetLife’s trash-turf surface.

As for Wagner, he says he doesn’t mind playing on either grass or artifical surfaces. However, he also says most of his teammates and people he’s known through the years prefer grass.

Wagner may be built different – but the recent numbers are clear that artificial surfaces lead to more injuries.

Speaking of turf, that’s what the Seahawks will be playing on this coming Sunday against Detroit. The team should be expecting a raucous environment at Ford Field.
