PlayStation Plus October games lineup includes GTA and Dragon Quest

PlayStation Plus games for October go all-in on RPGs and globe-trotting experiences, but skimp on the promised classics

Sony announced the PlayStation Plus October 2022 lineup in a new PlayStation Blog post, with over a dozen games available for subscribers at the basic tier and a small selection for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. The Premium games for October 2022 are all recent titles, though, with two PS3 games, a handful of PS4 picks, and none of the PS1 and PS2 classics Sony originally promised when the subscription service’s tiered structure debuted earlier in 2022.

The highlights include GTA Vice City – Definitive Edition, which released only a year ago, albeit in a very buggy, compromised form, and Dragon Quest XI. This version of DQXI includes all the extra features from the Nintendo Switch port, such as extra chapters for each character.

This month’s selection will go live on Oct. 18, 2022. PS Plus subscribers at the Extra level – the $14.99 per month tier – get these games:

  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Definitive Edition
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • The Medium
  • Inside
  • Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles (includes China, Russia, and India)
  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered
  • Hohokum
  • Dragon Quest Builders
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes 2

Premium subscribers get a bundle of Yakuza games, on their home system just as RGG apparently intended:

  • Yakuza 3 Remastered
  • Yakuza 4 Remastered
  • Yakuza 5 Remastered
  • Limbo
  • Ultimate Street Fighter IV
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PS3)
  • Everyday Shooter (PS3)

All games downloaded during this period will remain in your library so long as your PS Plus subscription stays active.

The GTA Trilogy is getting another patch next week

More fixes are on the way.

The GTA Trilogy was the subject of many people’s ire last year when it came out in a ridiculously buggy state. Rockstar has put out several significant patches since and even apologized for the state of things, though the studio isn’t done yet.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Rockstar announced on Thursday that another patch is coming for the GTA Trilogy soon.

“New patches are coming next week for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition across all platforms,” Rockstar said on Twitter. “We appreciate the community’s patience and support.”

There is no definitive date on when the patch will be out or what it’ll fix, but more information will surely come soon.

Most were expecting the GTA Trilogy to be a slam dunk, especially since Rockstar was keen on the collection before release. The studio did remedy the situation somewhat by offering PC fans free games, though that obviously wasn’t an actual fix and certainly didn’t help those people playing on console.

Rockstar will likely be patching the GTA Trilogy for some time, even with rumors of GTA 6 floating about. Not long ago, fans thought they found hints of the GTA 6 in the GTA Trilogy.

GTA Trilogy PC owners can now get another game for free

Owners of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on PC are now eligible for claiming another Rockstar game for free.

Anyone who has read anything about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will likely be well aware of the package’s many issues. After launching in an unplayable state on PC, the game was promptly taken off digital storefronts before being reinstated a week later. Rockstar then publicly apologized for the state of Grove Street Games’ highly anticipated revamp of three beloved titles before pushing a massive patch later that month

Since then, Rockstar has stated that GTA Trilogy owners would be compensated for launch issues by receiving the original versions of all three games free of charge provided they played on PC and had access to the publisher’s proprietary launcher. The company has now gone a step further by promising an additional gift, offering players a choice of seven different options.

These options are as follows:

  • Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition
  • Max Payne 3
  • L.A. Noire
  • Bully: Scholarship Edition
  • A Great White Shark Cash Card for GTA Online
  • 55 Gold Bars for Red Dead Online

Anyone who has purchased a copy of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition already will automatically be eligible for this offer provided they haven’t yet requested a refund for the game. People who buy the collection before 12 a.m. ET on Jan. 6, 2022 will also be able to claim one of the free games or items – after that time, the offer will end.

It’s important to note that this offer is exclusive for PC players via the official Rockstar Launcher. Console players and anyone who plays with a different launcher on PC will not be able to claim a gift unless they repurchase the trilogy through Rockstar’s digital store.

You can buy Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for 20% off here. Various other Rockstar games are on sale too, with Red Dead Redemption 2 going for 66% off, Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition going for 50% off, and Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition going for 70% off, to name a few.

If you’re eligible for one of the gifts listed above, be sure to check out our recent interview with Rockstar on how GTA Online became the home of Dr. Dre’s new music.

The GTA Trilogy contains a partial VR mode

Los Santos in first-person. What more could you want?

There appears to be an incomplete VR mode for the GTA Trilogy.

Ben Turpin, a well-known reporter at RockstarINTEL, allegedly found the incomplete VR mode by poking around inside the  GTA Trilogy’s code. It only seems to apply to  Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, however.

“There is a debug Unreal command for GTA VR but it looks a little bit unfinished,” Turpin said  on Twitter. “Maybe it would be cool if they implemented this as a first-person option? It plays pretty well. Gunfights and punching will need tweaking, [it] would be super cool for screenshots!”

You can check out Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas  in VR for yourself below.

Turpin claims  anyone can try this mode  out by entering the “GTA.VR 1” command inside the game’s debug console. You will need to install a small mod to access it, though.

It’s a safe bet that this is related to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR  that Facebook, excuse me,  Meta announced last month. Rockstar Games never said anything about the GTA Trilogy  having a VR mode, though. Given the  numerous bugs found all over the Definitive Edition, PC modders were likely to find the VR hints sooner or later.

Fans think they’ve found a Grand Theft Auto 6 hint in the GTA Trilogy

We want to believe.

Adjust those tinfoil hats for this one, friends: fans think they’ve found a Grand Theft Auto 6  hint in the GTA Trilogy, Kotaku  reported Friday

In  Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, there’s a bar called the Lil’ Probe’Inn that’s awash in pictures of UFOs. One wall of the bar, in particular, has photos of alien spacecraft flying above locations from several of Rockstar’s games.

Bits of  Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V are there, along with one peculiar shot of a white house in a tropical climate. Unlike the rest of the photos, this one isn’t from a previous game in Rockstar’s portfolio — so these fans think it’s from Grand Theft Auto 6.

Take a look at the picture in question below. Make sure to grab the biggest salt grain that you can find before doing so, though.

Several folks on the GTAForums are swearing up and down that the house is one from Boca Raton, Florida, where Grand Theft Auto: Vice City  takes place. User Igrobar took things a step further and compared a real house in Boca Raton to this in-game mystery house  and they’re pretty similar.

Again, take all of this with a heft dose of skepticism. The mystery locale could just be some stock image Rockstar stuck in there for no real reason. Maybe we’ll get to ask the developers about it next time  we interview them

Rockstar apologizes for the GTA Trilogy’s issues

Patches and fixes are on the way.

Rockstar Games took the time to apologize to fans over the state of the  GTA Trilogy.

It’s no secret that  fans aren’t happy about the state of the GTA Trilogy  remaster. Rockstar knows things aren’t up to snuff either and finally spoke about the technical issues plaguing the  GTA Trilogy.

“We want to sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games,” Rockstar said  in a statement. “The Grand Theft Auto  series — and the games that make up this iconic trilogy — are as special to us as we know they are to fans around the world. The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality or the standards our fans have come to expect.”

The GTA Trilogy is back on PC

PC players can pick up the trilogy once again.

The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  came out last week, only for Rockstar Games to immediately take it down. Now the games are back up.

When the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  launched on Thursday, it was nearly unplayable on PC. Things were so bad that the entire Rockstar Game Launcher went down for maintenance. The launcher went back up on Friday but the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  was still unavailable for purchase. There was a lot of speculation as to why but it seems the issues stem from some inner-workings that should not have been part of this release.

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition  is unavailable to play or purchase as we remove files unintentionally included in these versions,” Rockstar said on Twitter. “We’re sorry for the disruption and hope to have correct ones up soon.”

Rockstar finally put the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  back up for sale on Sunday.

It’s safe to say that the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  isn’t garnering the reception that Rockstar was hoping for at all. Fans are still sharing  hilarious bugs and glitches from the games. Not to mention  certain features from the PS2 versions being missing aren’t winning people over. Take-Two is confident that Grand Theft Auto has the staying power of James Bond, though.
