Jason Day (-118) vs. Rickie Fowler

Day, a former PGA Championship winner, has been playing some of his best golf in several years of late. He tied for seventh at the Workday Charity Open, fourth at the Memorial Tournament, and sixth at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

Fowler has been inconsistent with three missed cuts and no top-10s since the PGA Tour’s restart.

Jordan Spieth vs. Gary Woodland (-118)

Woodland loses the popularity battle to Spieth, and this matchup is much more even than it should be. The reigning US Open champ finished inside the top 10 in each of the last two PGA Championships. He also returns to California following his first major win.

Scottie Scheffler vs. Matt Kuchar (-106)

Kuchar is the surprise underdog in this matchup against the unproven Scheffler. The veteran has 12 career top-10 finishes in majors, including a T-8 at the 2019 PGA Championship. Scheffler made his major debut at the 2019 US Open and missed the cut.

2020 PGA Championship: Placing bets

Top 5: Justin Rose (+1200)

Rose has been off for a couple weeks following a run of missed cuts ending with the Memorial Tournament. He has slipped all the way to 96th in the Golfweek rankings, but he’s looking for his 17th win since 2010 and to extend a streak of 10 straight years with at least one victory.

Top American: Brooks Koepka (+750)

There’s value on the two-time defending champ to be the best player from the US. He’s tied with Thomas at +1000 as the tournament favorite, but Thomas is favored to be the top American at +600. Thomas admitted earlier in the week his natural cut may not be a great fit for TPC Harding Park, and Koepka has even more motivation after his 18th-hole collapse at the WGC event.

Top rest of world player: Adam Scott (+1000)

Golf fans haven’t seen Scott since his missed cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. As a result, his odds have been boosted upward. He’s just the fourth favorite in a group led by Hideki Matsuyama (+650).

He collected two top-10s in last year’s four majors and has back-to-back top-10s at the PGA Championship.

2020 PGA Championship: First-round leader bet

Collin Morikawa (+3500)

Morikawa, 23, tied for 35th at last year’s US Open in his first major appearance. He now has two PGA Tour wins to his name, including the Workday Charity Open in a strong field and at the difficult Muirfield Village Golf Club. He opened that event with a first-round 65, and he started the Charles Schwab Challenge with a 64.

He’s +3300 to win the tournament and gets some added value here.

Tony Finau (+4500)

Finau has also been going low to open tournaments since the restart. He has carded first-round scores of 66 (twice) and 65 and had shot 69 or better in the opening round of six straight events until his 70 to start the WGC event.
