Who will lead after 9 holes? Curry & Manning (-125)

Curry and Manning, two amateur golfers, are favorites to win The Match at odds of -182 to the +135 tag for Mickelson and Barkley. I’m on Mickelson, a professional golfer, and Barkley to win this thing, but it’s a made for TV event and the scoring format will help to negate Mickelson’s inherent advantage.

All that can be done will be done to make this an entertaining competition throughout. Look for the rules to bend in favor of the two amateurs on the front nine before an inspiring comeback is led by Mickelson to seal the win.

First to go 1 up: Mickelson & Barkley (+140)

Stone Canyon features three sets of tees, with Mickelson expected to play from the Coppers and the other three playing from the Blacks or Blues. This will help level the playing field with the 50-year-old Mickelson still one of the longer hitters on the PGA Tour.

The first true scoring opportunity for either twosome comes on the par-5 2nd. It plays 559 yards from the Coppers and 533 from the Blacks (499 from the Blues). Take the plus-money and look for Mickelson to hit a bomb to set up a second shot from Barkley. Mickelson will then stick the third on a short approach and Barkley could have a tap-in birdie.

Any eagle in the tournament: Yes (+1200)

Stone Canyon measures 7,317 yards from the Copper tees and sees both par 5s on the back 9 top 600 yards. The best opportunity for an eagle to be scored by either team will be on the 306-yard, par-4 17th.

Mickelson is fully capable of driving the green. Barkley will likely need to hit a putt on the penultimate hole, but at +1200, it’ll be well worth the added excitement Friday afternoon.
