San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Francisco Giants (6-8) and Los Angeles Dodgers (9-4) start an NL
West rivalry series Friday at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is 9:40 p.m. ET. We analyze the Giants-Dodgers betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Giants at Dodgers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Jeff Samardzija at LHP Julio Urias

Samardzija’s innings-eating approach produces volatile year-to-year results, and while 2019 (3.52 ERA in 32 starts) looked great, 2020 has started roughly with a 9.31 ERA in two starts.

  • To be fair, the righty has been dealing with a blister that has forced him to avoid his split-finger fastball, one of his go-to pitches.
  • Still, Shark has been chum at Dodger Stadium (4.26 ERA, 5 HR in 31 2/3 innings).

Given openings in the typically crowded Dodgers rotation, Urias is staking his claim for a permanent spot with a 2.45 ERA across his first two starts (five and six innings, respectively).

  • He walked just one batter in his previous outing, but he has struck out just 6.6 batters per nine innings — less dominant than his stuff says he can be.
  • Still, the 23-year-old boasts a career 3.56 ERA in 30 starts; a 3.15 ERA in 33 home appearances (16 starts); and a stellar 1.40 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 38 2/3 frames versus the Giants, spanning 13 meetings (seven starts).

Prediction

This prediction relies heavily on Betts’ status; he hasn’t played L.A.’s past three games with the sore finger on his left hand, and his presence in the lineup would help my confidence in the Dodgers’ lineup.

***Prediction without Betts starting: Dodgers 4, Giants 3

***Prediction with Betts starting: Dodgers 6, Giants 3

Moneyline (ML)

  • Giants (+240)
  • Dodgers (-278)

I don’t see a point in betting L.A. (-278) even if Betts is there; not enough payout, so I’ll PASS on the Dodgers.

If Betts doesn’t start, however, run to make the GIANTS (+240) bet, though the line will likely drop following the decision.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Giants +2 (-115)
  • Dodgers -2 (-106)

No interest in any run line, given the Betts uncertainty. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 9 (-106)
  • Under 9 (-115)

Since neither line allows for a double-up profit, I’ll PASS.
