Dodgers 8, Giants 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Dodgers (-358) are again heavily favored in this season-opening series after losing 5-4 to the Giants (+310) Saturday.

The Dodgers won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 17-2  and are the far superior team. There just isn’t value in the -358 price to justify any sort of bet. PASS on the moneyline and bet the run line.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Dodgers would return a profit of just $2.80. This is a chalky bet.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

DODGERS -2.5 (-121) is the way to go. Los Angeles would need to win by at least three runs for a $10 bet to return a much more worthwhile profit of $8.30.

The Giants’ bullpen has pitched 15 1/3 total innings through the first three games of this series and the Dodgers will be able to take advantage of the tired unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Following the above logic, OVER 9.5 (-110) is the best play in this game. The Dodgers will handle the bulk of the scoring with a multi-run margin of victory sending this well over the required 10 total runs.

  • Dodgers 1B Max Muncy is 2-for-2 against Webb with a home run.

Wood (2019): 1-3, 5.80 ERA in seven starts

  • Wood is back with the Dodgers after a one-year stint with the Cincinnati Reds in which he made only seven starts, won one game and dealt with a back injury.
  • Wood is 4-3 in 15 career games (nine starts) against the Giants with a 3.90 ERA. Giants SS Brandon Crawford has two career home runs off Wood in 18 at-bats.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 10 runs. The Dodgers are 1-0-1 in two games but have held the Giants to two runs. The Giants have had moderate success against Wood and should be able to do better than one run. However, with the increased line, the two teams will just miss the total this afternoon. Take the UNDER 10 (-110).

RHP Johnny Cueto vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw

Cueto, who is 126-87 with a 3.35 ERA in his 12-year career, will be making his 297th start.

  • The right-hander pitched just 16 innings – in four starts – late last season after returning from Tommy John surgery.
  • Cueto is backed by what projects as a shaky, bottom-feeder relief corps.

Kershaw went 16-5 with a 3.03 ERA last season, averaging 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

  • The three-time NL Cy Young winner held the Giants to a .581 on-base plus slugging percentage in 2019. Over his career, Kershaw has held current SF batters to a .450 OPS while posting a near-8-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Kershaw is backed by a Dodger bullpen that paced the NL with a 3.85 ERA a year ago. LA relievers logged a fine 2.87 ERA at home last season. That figure was best in MLB by nearly half-a-run.
