5. Georgia returned to 2021 form

Oh were the post-SEC Championship narratives were rich. One rough loss to Alabama, and …

Georgia’s secondary was a weakness.

Georgia was exposed.

Georgia didn’t beat anyone who was all that amazing.

Georgia was playing the wrong quarterback.

Okay, so maybe that last one still sort of holds – more on that in a moment – but it was as if everyone had forgotten just how dominant this team was throughout the regular season.

The offense didn’t get a touchdown in the 10-3 opener against Clemson. No one else came even remotely close to touching this team up until Alabama pulled off the win, and even then the loss could partly be explained away that the Dawgs sort of played like it didn’t need the win – which it didn’t.

So was this a bad performance by Michigan? Yeah, sort of, but Georgia did that to Arkansas, and Florida, and Tennessee, and Kentucky, and everyone else on the slate except for that one team that’s coming up in a rematch a few days from now.

Oh, and …

Georgia vs Michigan Capital One Orange Bowl, College Football Playoff Semifinal Preview

Oh are the respective fan bases ready for this. Georgia hasn’t won a national title since 1980, it came brutally close to close out the 2017 season, and now it’s back and two wins away from finally getting it done.

Michigan hasn’t won a national championship since 1997, and even then it was split with Nebraska.

After years of being hammered for not being able to win a really big game under Jim Harbaugh, the program came up with two in a row with the breakthrough moment against Ohio State and the blowout Big Ten Championship over Iowa, and now it’s a victory away from playing for the national championship.

Michigan received just 12 votes in the preseason AP Top 25 rankings. No, it wasn’t ranked 12th – it got 12 votes, ranking behind Liberty and just ahead of Northwestern. It wasn’t ranked in the preseason Coaches Poll top 25, either.

With a power style on both sides of the ball – and enough timely downfield passes to get by – this isn’t as flashy team. It wants to get physical.

The program and Harbaugh have earned respect no matter what happens here, but there’s been just one bowl win since taking down Tim Tebow and Florida to end the 2007 season going 1-6 in bowls since then.

– Georgia has won six of its last eight bowl games and is 4-2 under head coach Kirby Smart. There wasn’t any lack of respect from the preseason polls – ranked fifth in each – before becoming the unquestioned No. 1 team right up until it lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

The defense is loaded with NFL talent, the offense is loaded with NFL talent, and this game might just become a key moment for Smart and the Bulldogs.

Smart has shown he can get the Dawgs close to being among the elite of the elite, but lose this to close out with two straight defeats, and everything that happened in the amazing 2021 will be soured.

5 reasons Georgia beats Michigan, plays for national title

Georgia takes down Michigan and gets another shot at a title…

We’ve arrived, the College Football Playoff is upon us and Georgia football (12-1) has another shot at a national title.

What’s standing in the Bulldogs’ way?

Big Ten champion Michigan, which is also 12-1 and enters the playoffs coming off a 42-3 beatdown over Iowa in the Big Ten Championship.

Unlike the Wolverines, the Bulldogs aren’t able to relish a conference championship.

Alabama exposed a Georgia defense that was on a historic pace through 12 games (6.9 points per game allowed) by putting up 41 points behind a 424-yard performance from Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young, an SEC Championship passing record.

Can the Dawgs bounce back and take down a the hard-nosed Wolverines?

Here’s five reasons the Bulldogs beat Michigan and play for a national title:

2021 SEC bowl game predictions

Here is a prediction for every single SEC bowl game this postseason.

We have finally arrived.

Bowl season is upon us and the SEC is (hopefully) going to make the most of it. The conference had 13 teams that were bowl eligible (sorry Vanderbilt) and every single one of them is going to play in the postseason.

In fact, two of them are in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama and Georgia made it to the CFP and will take on Cincinnati and Michigan. According to oddsmakers, the two SEC foes are expected to win their games and face off once again in the National Championship. It just means more, right?

Here is a prediction for every single SEC bowl game this postseason.

Kirby Smart updates Georgia QB situation

Stetson Bennett or J.T. Daniels? Kirby updates the QB situation ahead of CFP…

Georgia football is preparing for a clash with Michigan in the playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

Much of the pregame discussion is revolving around UGA’s quarterback situation, which has remained a hot topic throughout the season and especially after the Bulldogs 41-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Stetson Bennett, who started 10 games for the Bulldogs after taking over for an injury-riddled J.T. Daniels, was intercepted twice by the Crimson Tide in Atlanta.

With two weeks of preparations left and both Bennett and Daniels healthy, questions are focused on if Georgia will make a quarterback change this postseason.

UGA coach Kirby Smart took a question on the current quarterback situation  in his Monday press conference.

“We don’t disclose that information, we just talk about who is doing their job and all four of those guys have been doing a tremendous job,” Smart said. “Brock (Vandagriff) has been doing a tremendous job giving us a good picture on the scout team end. Stetson (Bennett) and JT and really doing a good job simulating the offense that coach (Todd) Monken wants to do. Like I talk about all the time, we’re going to play the guy who gives us the best chance to win.”

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels (18) walks off the field after their 62 to 0 win against Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt Stadium Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 in Nashville, Tenn.

Daniels has been efficient when he’s seen the field this year, completing 68 of 94 passes (72.3%) for 722 yards with seven touchdowns to three interceptions.

The caveat is that Bennett has been comparatively equally efficient, and has added a threat with his legs.

Bennett has completed 148 of 231 passes (64.1%) for 2,325 yards with 24 touchdowns to seven interceptions, while adding another 251 yards on 45 attempts and a touchdown on the ground.
