Georgia vs Florida Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

Can the Gator offensive line take over for stretches?

It’s been amazing at keeping defenses out of the backfield and strong for the ground game, paving the way for over 200 yards against everyone but Tennessee – the passing attack was too hot in that – and in the slugfest loss to Kentucky.

Georgia’s run defense has been terrific, but it hasn’t faced anyone who can run all that well other than Oregon. That might have been an ugly blowout, but the Ducks were able to get to 140 yards and had a little bit of success.

Florida has to start running, the style creates big spaces for the backs to move through, and …

Yeah, that sounds nice, but QB Anthony Richardson has to be the best player on the field.

He has been all over the place with the passing game, and he’s been running well enough to continue to be a threat. The line has to do it’s job, but he needs to be unstoppable because …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why Georgia Will Win

Florida’s defense will seem like it’s on the field for most of the game.

The group is having nightmare of a time coming up with a third down stop, and now it’s going against one of the best offenses in the country at converting its third down chances It’s No. 1 in the nation in time of possession.

There’s a great combination of explosion and ball control, and it’s all about to work against this D.

The Dawgs almost certainly won’t have turnover issues – there’s been just one interception, and five of the six turnovers on the year came in the sleepy wins over Kent State and Missouri.

As long as Stetson Bennett isn’t forcing anything, he should be able hit the midrange throws the Gators will allow, the ground attack that’s averaging over six yards per carry should take some of the heat off, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia rolled through Auburn and Vanderbilt by a combined score of 97-10 to get everything back on track before going into the two week break.

It’s still not totally healthy – star DT Jalen Carter continues to be questionable – but the lines are going to be rested, the team got to take a collective deep breath, and now it’s on.

Florida, then Tennessee, then at Mississippi State, then at Kentucky, then Georgia Tech. This is just the first step of a very, very long road to get where it needs to be, but this is when the intimidation factor kicks back in.

No one really paid attention to those wins over Auburn and Vandy. People will be watching this.

It won’t be a total wipeout, but the Dawgs will look like they’re ready to kick it all in with an efficient day from the offense and a strong performance from the defensive front to keep Richardson from going off.

Florida vs Georgia Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

Florida has the offensive versatility to potentially throw something different at the Georgia D.

No one’s running on this Bulldog brick wall, but Auburn – and to a certain extent, Arkansas – are the only teams on the slate so far that can actually throw a bit.

This isn’t the fun-time Kyle Trask Gator offense of last year, but it’s good enough to be the biggest test yet for the Georgia secondary with both Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson expected to see time.

If that works – and if the O can hit its normal 200+ yards through the air – that could open things up just a wee bit for a ground attack that won’t go off, but might be able to control the game and the clock a little bit.

And then there’s the Georgia quarterback issue.

Stetson Bennett has been terrific so far, but that’s partly because he hasn’t had to throw a pass in a stressful situation. He was amazing last year early on, and then Alabama happened – there’s a multi-interception game in there somewhere. That’s, of course, if he plays.

Head coach Kirby Smart is keeping the starting quarterback situation under wraps now that JT Daniels is healthy again. If Daniels really is 100%, he’s it. He’s the national championship-level, NFL starting quarterback who takes the No. 1 team up a few notches, but he also hasn’t played in a month.

The Florida D might have issues, but it can get to the quarterback. However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 9

Why Georgia Will Win

Can Florida avoid the big mistakes?

The Gator defense might have been pounded on by LSU, but it was solid against Alabama and was able to keep Tennessee from doing all the fancy schmancy things it does. However, Georgia should be able to keep this simple.

Bulk yards don’t necessarily matter here. Georgia was able to maintain control against Kentucky with just 166 yards on the ground. That was a don’t-screw-it-up game, and it didn’t – run, rely on the defense, don’t make big mistakes. The Dawgs didn’t turn the ball over.

There were turnovers over the first part of the year, but the offense hasn’t given it up in the last three games. Florida’s defense doesn’t help itself with takeaways with just six on the year and four of them coming in the wins over Florida Atlantic and Vanderbilt.

Yeah, can throw a bit, but it gave away four interceptions against LSU, two the week before against Vanderbilt, and turned it over 13 times on the season with a -7 turnover margin.

Florida has the talent and the athletes to pull this off, but it has to be perfect, it has to win the turnover margin for the first time this season, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Florida won’t win the turnover battle.

As always, this will be among the most intense, hard-hitting battles of the season. However, for Georgia, it’s going to be about playing at an even keel and not getting caught up in the emotion, the huge hits, and the big plays on both sides of the ball that Florida will occasionally come up with.

But the Georgia run defense really is just that good.

The formula will continue to work. Rely on the offense to grind out enough yards to matter, don’t take unnecessary chances, expect the defense to own the game, especially in the second half.

Why Georgia Will Win

The Florida defense rose up against Missouri last week, but the secondary has still been a bit questionable, giving up over 200 yards in all four games with just one interception.

Georgia might not be Alabama bombing away, but it’s possible for Stetson Bennett to have a decent enough game to go along with a strong performance from the SEC’s best defense.

Bennett was hardly perfect against Alabama and Kentucky, but he threw over 200 yards in each of the first four games with seven scores, and he’s got the weapons to push the ball deep on a group that allowed 7.7 yards per pass.

Bennett’s job is to keep the chains moving without making big mistakes. Georgia is fantastic at dominating the time of possession battle, and it has to keep Kyle Trask and that Gator offense off the field.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Florida Will Win

The offense has been tremendously consistent.

The running game has worked when needed, but it’s the passing game that’s been dominant. It’s not time to call Kyle Trask the next version of Joe Burrow, but …

Trask has thrown for over 400 fewer yards over Burrow’s 2019 four-game pace, but he has thrown for one more touchdown pass – 18 to 17 – and the same number of interceptions with three. He’s not quite bombing away deep like Burrow did over the first four games, but the 9.6 yards per pass are excellent.

The Georgia secondary is outstanding, but it’ll be without star Richard LeCounte – who’s recovering after a frightening traffic accident – and it had major problems with the Alabama passing game a few weeks ago.

Florida has the offense that can crank out yards and points in chunks. Georgia doesn’t.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Florida might be just rocky enough defensively to have issues with a Georgia offense that will keep up the pace, but Bennett hasn’t been strong enough over the last few weeks.

He’ll put up yards, but he’ll also throw two key picks. Trask and the Gator offense will be steady for a full four quarters.
