Tennessee’s 14-0 win on Sunday completed a series sweep against the Eagles.

Tennessee claimed a series win Saturday, defeating the Eagles, 10-3.

Tennessee scores 10 unanswered runs to notch comeback win over the Eagles

Tennessee notched its second victory of the season, overcoming a three-run deficit to defeat Georgia Sothern, 10-3, Saturday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Eagles (0-2) scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The No. 16 Volunteers (2-0) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kyle Booker had an RBI groundout. Evan Russell produced a two-run game-tying single. Trey Lipscomb and Drew Gilbert scored for the Vols.

Luc Lipcius had a scoring double, driving in Seth Stephenson with a go-ahead run, 4-3.

The Vols added an insurance run as Booker walked with the bases loaded. Lipcius scored to extend UT’s advantage to two runs.

Tennessee hit a pair of home runs in the seventh inning.

Gilbert hit a grand slam and Jorel Ortega added a solo home run.

Gilbert went 2-for-4 with the grand slam. He drove in four runs and scored two more for the Vols.

On the mound, Ethan Smith pitched one inning of scoreless relief. He gave up three hits and struck out one.

Chase Dollander started for the Vols. He went five innings, surrendering three earned runs and four hits. He finished with 11 strikeouts.

Will Mabrey, Redmond Walsh and Zander Sechrist each added a scoreless inning of relief in the contest.

The Vols has 4,651 in attendance at Lindsey Nelson Stadium Saturday, the largest crowd since Tony Vitello became Tennessee’s head coach.

Tennessee will host the Eagles Sunday in the series finale.

First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. EST.

No. 16 Tennessee (1-0) opened its 2022 baseball season with a 9-0 win against Georgia Southern at Lindsey Nelson Stadium Friday.

The Vols recorded nine hits, including four home runs.

Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth for the game’s first score.

Designated hitter Seth Stephenson added a two-run home run in the the fifth inning. Jorel Ortega extended Tennessee’s advantage to 7-0 with his three-run  home run in the sixth inning.

Christian Scott had a solo home run in the seventh inning and drove in another run with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning.

The Vols had its final run on an error by Georgia Southern.

Three Tennessee pitchers combined for a three-hit shut out against Georgia Southern.

Chase Burns started and earned the win. He pitched five innings, surrendering two hits, one walk and struck out five.

Camden Sewell and Kirby Connell each pitched two innings. Sewell had two strikeouts. Connell gave up one hit and struck out one.

4,335 were in attendance at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, setting a home opener record. The previous record was 2,812 in 2012.
