Georgia great Matthew Stafford earns spot on NFL Top 100

Super Bowl winning quarterback Matthew Stafford ranked at No. 27 in NFL Top 100…

The 2021 season was incredibly good for the Georgia football family.

While the Dawgs brought the national title back to Athens, former Georgia star quarterback Matthew Stafford led the L.A. Rams to his first ever Super Bowl win in 13 seasons.

Stafford’s huge year for the Rams did not go unnoticed by his NFL peers. Players have voted him the No. 27 player in the NFL Top 100.

Stafford completed 67.2% of his passes (70.0% in the postseason) for 4,886 yards along with 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

The former No. 1 overall pick spent 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions before heading to L.A. in 2021.

Stafford (34) is the youngest NFL player of all-time to reach 50,000 passing yards.

Rams HC Sean McVay says QB Matthew Stafford is ‘even better than advertised’

Los Angeles Rams HC Sean McVay could not contain his excitement about former Georgia football and Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford.

For the first time in his NFL career, former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Matthew Stafford will not be suit up in a Detroit Lions jersey.

After being traded to the Rams, the former No. 1 overall NFL draft pick will look to start the second chapter of his career in Los Angeles after 12 years in Detroit.

So far, it appears Stafford is off to a really solid start in LA, impressing his new head coach Sean McVay.

McVay has had only positive things to say about the former Bulldog all offseason, but in an interview with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, McVay could not contain his excitement over his new quarterback.

“Bro, this dude’s a bad MF-er,” McVay told Breer.

“Whatever people say about him, as good as it can be, he’s even better than advertised. It makes sense to him. The guy’s ability to see the game, his ability to draw on his experiences, the feel that he has, it’s pretty special and unique. And, man, his feel for people, his authentic way of connecting with his teammates, his coaches, this guy, it’s great being around him.”

Stafford admitted it will be “an interesting opportunity and a challenge” for him to assimilate a new offense, especially due to the lack of on-field workouts players were able to do this offseason prior to training camp.

Stafford will be surrounded by serious talent in Los Angeles, so expectations will be through the roof. From what’s been reported, it sounds like the cool, calm and collected Stafford should have no problem living up to the hype.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford to begin training soon with WR Robert Woods

Former Georgia football QB Matthew Stafford, now with the Los Angeles Rams, is soon to begin training with star WR Robert Woods.

Former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, who spent his entire 12-year career with the Detroit Lions, was the talk of the pre-draft offseason after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford admitted that it will be “an interesting opportunity and a challenge” for him to become oriented into the new offense, especially due to the lack of on-field workouts players can do this offseason prior to training camp.

Stafford will be surrounded by serious talent in Los Angeles, and look for him and wide receiver Robert Woods to form a deadly combination, much like Woods was able to orchestrate with Jared Goff over the last few years.

Woods and Stafford are yet to workout on the field together, but they plan to do so soon to begin building the much-needed chemistry between quarterback and star receiver.

“Not yet, but I plan on getting with him soon,” Woods told CBS Sports. “We began our virtual training (recently). We’ll be in the same city soon within five or 10 miles, and I know I’m gonna be working out, he’s gonna be working out. So we’ll link up for sure and get our timing down.”

The only way to be the best is to train with the best. And although Stafford may not be the best in a literal sense, he’s still considered an upgrade over Goff.

But Stafford is pretty high up there when it comes to the NFL’s best quarterbacks. Look what he has done since 2010. He has a completion rate above 64% in each of the last six seasons. He had the second-highest passer rating under pressure in 2020. He has finished in the top 10 in passing yards seven times, and he has had a 100-yard rusher in 11 of 166 games played. 

And Woods is no joke either. In the last three seasons, the former USC Trojan has 266 catches for 3,289 yards and 18 total touchdowns.

LA Rams DB Jordan Fuller is excited about the addition of former Georgia football and Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford.

The only way to be the best is to train with the best. And although new Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford may not be the best in a literal sense, he’s still considered an upgrade over Jared Goff.

Fuller, a second year pro out Ohio State, shared his excitement while on Good Morning Football.

Fuller is yet to go up against Stafford during his NFL career, but that’s about to change in a big way very soon.

UGA great Matthew Stafford had one request to the Lions before being traded

Before Lions star quarterback Matthew Stafford was part of a blockbuster trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Rams for quarterback Jared Goff and three future draft picks, the former Georgia great had just one request to the Detroit front office.

“What’s accurate is — and this is an incredible thing by (the Lions) — I asked to go to a team that was ready to win a championship,” Stafford said. “And, you know, there were a few teams on that list. There were a few teams that were not on that list. And they were respectful of that and understood completely. I had thoughts and reasons for each one of them.”

If there is one thing Stafford deserves after an incredible career in Detroit, it’s an opportunity to go to a championship-level team.

Stafford started 136 straight games from 2009-2019,  a streak good enough to rank 6th all-time, and is the Lions franchise leader in almost every passing category, including passing yards (45,109), completions (3,898), passing touchdowns (282) and even quarterback wins (74).

Now, Stafford enters his 13th season in an entirely new world in Los Angeles. The Rams, led by offensive guru, head coach Sean McVay, have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and have won the 4th most games in the League since McVay took the job in 2017. And most importantly, have one of the NFL’s top defenses. As we witnessed with Tom Brady in Super Bowl LV, an elite defense can go a long way.

All Stafford needs to cement his name in the NFL Hall of Fame is a championship and with the Rams, that mountain certainly looks climbable.
