Georgia baseball scheduled to play Georgia Tech at Braves’ stadium

This spring, Georgia baseball is scheduled to play Georgia Tech in Truist Park, which is home of the Atlanta Braves

The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team has a major nonconference game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on April 15, 2025. Georgia fans will want to mark their calendars because the Bulldogs are playing Georgia Tech just once during the 2025 college baseball season.

Georgia will play Georgia Tech in Truist Park, which is home of the Atlanta Braves. Truist Park holds 41,084 fans. Georgia’s latest clash with Georgia Tech on the diamond will be part of the 22nd annual Spring Baseball Classic to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Georgia defeated Georgia Tech three times last season. The Dawgs won twice during the regular season and once in extra innings during the NCAA Tournament in the Athens Regional.

Georgia has SEC home series against Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. The Bulldogs play in the best conference in baseball and are coming off an impressive season where they earned the No. 7 national seed and nearly made the College World Series. The 2025 college baseball season begins on Feb. 14.

Georgia baseball signs No. 3 transfer class

UGA baseball signed the No. 3 transfer class in the nation

The Georgia Bulldogs baseball program has signed the No. 3 transfer class in the country according to 64Analytics. The Bulldogs, who lost in the super regional to NC State last season, are looking to replenish much of their roster via the portal.

Georgia signed 10 top-250 transfers and is bringing in the country’s top hitting transfer class. Manager Wes Johnson and Georgia are looking to return to the College World Series for the first time in over a decade. Georgia will have to navigate a very tough SEC during the 2025 season.

Georgia will have to try to win in 2025 without superstar Charlie Condon, who was the third pick in the 2024 MLB draft. Condon leaves Georgia as the top hitter in program history.

Georgia’s top transfer is Texas-Arlington standout Ryan Black. Black recorded five home runs, 41 RBIs and batted .278 a season ago.

Overall, Georgia baseball has 16 incoming transfers. The Bulldogs’ incoming transfer class is ranked behind only Arkansas and LSU.

NCAA Baseball has several rule changes approved by the oversight panel

College Baseball might look different next season as the new NCAA rules are set to take place

Over the last month, college baseball has seen many changes on and off the field. The most impactful off-field change has been the shift in scholarship allocation among the sports. However, a few days ago, the Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a litany of rules changes for the upcoming season.

The rules overall seem to be reasonable, with the more eye-raising differences geared toward the pitchers. One of the rules that will stick out in the minds of many Texas A&M fans will be the following:

  • If a pitcher is found to be using a foreign substance on the baseball, the pitcher and the head coach both will be ejected from the game. A starting pitcher also will serve a four-game suspension, and a relief pitcher will receive a two-game suspension.

We bring this up because everyone remembers the infamous video that surfaced on social media of the Georgia pitcher who tucked himself away in the corner of the bullpen and started fiddling with his glove. While it was never proved the pitcher was using a foreign substance, there was never an attempt to check.

Below, Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, highlights some of the other changes coming down soon.

Overall, these changes should improve the on-the-field product. The NCAA has been under a lot of pressure lately with the explosion of NIL and the loose transfer rules, so I’d expect more news throughout the year surrounding all things college sports-related changes.

Andrew Smart, son of Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart, homers in Little League action

In the Little League World Series regional, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart’s yard goes the distance. #UGA #LLWS

Andrew Smart assumed nothing, going yard on Friday in a Little League World Series Regional game. The son of Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart,  it was a well-hit opposite field home run from Andrew Smart.

As the game announcers noted, Andrew Smart is the youngest son of Kirby Smart, who has won two national championships as head coach of Georgia.

Georgia (Oconee County American Little League in Watksinville) defeated South Carolina 8-6 in Friday’s game. They are now 1-1 in the regional tournament.

For those who are curious, Andrew Smart is a pitcher in the class of 2030 prospect. He bats right-handed and throws right-handed.

No truth to the rumors that Nick Saban is already protesting his commitment to Georgia baseball.

Just a bit of pumped up emotion from Andrew Smart rounding the basepath. Pumped up for sure, but no gloating or grandstanding.

Dad must have been proud about that sportsmanship for sure.

Charlie Condon reaches agreement on historic MLB draft contract

UGA baseball star Charlie Condon has agreed to sign a contract with the largest draft bonus in MLB history

Former Georgia Bulldogs star third baseman Charlie Condon has agreed to a pro contract that includes a signing bonus worth $9.25 million, which equals the largest draft bonus in MLB history.

Condon fell to the Colorado Rockies and the third pick in the MLB draft. Part of the reason for Condon’s fall from No. 1 might have been his contract. The draft’s No. 1 pick, Travis Bazzana, signed a deal with an $8.95 million bonus, which is well below the No. 1 pick’s $10.57 million bonus slot value. The second pick of the draft, Chase Burns signed a contract with a $9.25 million bonus as well.

Condon was widely considered the best prospect entering the draft, so his dropping to No. 3 was surprising. However, the Cleveland Guardians elected to pinch pennies with the top pick.

The Colorado Rockies have one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball, so Condon will have an opportunity to put up big numbers for Colorado. Condon is the power hitter the Rockies desperately need.

Condon is Georgia’s single-season and all-time home run leader. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound third baseman just finished the best power-hitting season in Georgia baseball history. He batted a remarkable .433 (No. 1 in the country) with 37 home runs, 57 walks and 78 RBIs. Condon is a huge reason Georgia hosted a super regional this year.

Condon earned numerous honors for his 2024 season including winning the Golden Spikes Award and the Howser Trophy.
